Picnic

Dad had brought up the next day that we should go and have a picnic not far from Hargeon as a family. Nefta, Bubble, and Bill came along as well(much to Leema's disappointment), which made me pretty happy, even though both Nefta and Leema made sure that they were at least ten feet away from Bill and each other at all times. Kami didn't seem to mind Bill, though, and he talked to Bill about practically everything.

The picnic was pretty ordinary, and we all just had some basic small talk for the most part. When we were packing up to go, however, Bill came up to me to ask me a question. "You and Nefta are close, right?" He asked me.

"Uh, I think so?" I asked more than answered.

He looked down. "I know that I'm a pretty crappy Dad. I mean, I've done some things that I'm not all that proud off..." He trailed off.

"Is that why she hates you?" I asked.

He shrugged. "I'm sure that just me being her Dad has something to do with it. It's my fault she was born and had to go through all of that torture."

I looked left and right to make sure that no one was listening in. "What happened?"

He sighed and looked up to the sky. "I fell in love with her mother, Lavina, and we ended up getting...involved."

"Oh." I nodded, then my eyes widened. "Oh."

"Yeah, 'oh.' On the night that she was conceived, I had to retreat back and away from Heaven, back to Hell. I honestly didn't really know all about Nefta until I met her by chance. I wasn't exactly 'Dad of the year.'"

"Well, she can't just hate you for leaving her and her mom. I mean, you didn't know about her." I said, shrugging.

"Heh, if only that was it." He shook his head and looked back down. "It gets worse."

"Worse?"

"Yep. I'm a daemon, so it doesn't help when she get's hurt or tortured and I happen to notice. Of course, she's my daughter, but...I can't help but just sit back, relax, and watch. I can't bring myself to help protect her or anything. I also, may have sorta kinda tried to kill her little fairy friend at one point."

I felt my eye twitch. "Okay, why?"

"I was feeling extra daemon-y that day! You can't blame me!"

I rolled my eyes. "Okay, so you're really not 'Dad of the year.' But maybe you could do something to, I don't know, fix it?"

"What do you think that I've been trying to do?" He asked.

I sighed. "Well, why don't you just talk to her and ask her to give you a chance?"

"I've tried that. It was, like, three hundred years ago, and I blew it." He looked down. "I... I'm a terrible father."

He looked so down when he said that, I couldn't help but give him a small smile and place my hand on his shoulder. "Hey, how about I talk to her and ask her if she can give you another chance?"

"R-really?" He smiled and brightened up. "Thanks!"

"No problem," I placed my hands on my hips. "Family is one of the most important things. I'll take care of it."

I asked Nefta that night if we could hang out a bit in her room that she was staying in. She was warming up to me, and I think that we were past the acquaintance thing and got to be friends. We stayed up pretty late talking about everything and nothing, just laughing and having some fun. Eventually, I popped the question.

"So, when am I gonna get a little niece or nephew?" I asked.

Nefta blushed and looked away. "I don't know."

"Come on, it's gotta be soon! You can't make me wait forever!" I groaned.

"Well, you only just brought that up a few days ago." She shook her head.

"Well, I'm waiting." I leaned back on my hands. "I wanna be an aunt. And I'm sure that Bill wants to be a grandpa."

She looked away. "I'm sure he does. But if I am to have a child, I do not want him near them."

I frowned. "Why?" I knew the answer, but I asked anyways.

"Me and him...do not have a good relationship."

"Well, I could guess that already, but why?"

"He has done many things that I cannot forgive him for."

I didn't want to pry, because I knew that she wasn't comfortable talking about it. "Well, have you ever thought about giving him another chance?"

She shrugged. "I have. And he has always proven that he can never change."

I sighed. "Well, if you ever were to forgive him, what would he have to do in order to do it?"

She looked up at me and raised an eyebrow with a small smile. "He asked you to ask me about this, didn't he?"

I scratched the back of my head in embarrassment. "Well, maybe."

She sighed and laid back down on the bed. "I will admit that I do not like him much. But he is still my father. I have never met my mother, because I am not permitted to enter Heaven. I wish so badly to meet her, and to save her."

"Save her?"

Nefta nodded. "Yes. My pain and torture is nothing compared to what she has been dealing with."

"What?"

"S-she...she was forced into marriage with another angel, named Lucas. He has much power and has kept her like a slave for nine centuries. I want nothing more than to save her, but I cannot enter Heaven because I have daemon in me. If I ever was to forgive him, I wish for him to rescue my mother from her torture."

I looked at her sadly, and then nodded. "You should tell him."

"I do not believe that I would be able to. I am afraid that he will scoff at the idea and refuse. I do not even know if he truly loved her."

"Well, you don't know until you try, Nefty." I said, smiling.

"'Nefty'?" She asked.

"Uh, nickname. But I won't call you it if you don't like it."

"True, I don't prefer it." Nefta sat up. "But if you are to call me a nickname, I would prefer it to be Nati, not Nefty."

I smiled. "Alright, Nati!" I jumped to my feet. "And tomorrow, you're going to tell your Dad about what you want. He really wants to fix your guy's relationship."

She looked down. "He does, does he?"

I nodded. "Come on, Nati. Just give him a chance."

Nefta took a deep breath, and then nodded. "Alright. I'll tell him tomorrow."

"I'll go with you." I said, holding out my hand.

Nefta shook her head. "You do not have to accompany me."

"Hey, you're gonna have a nervous breakdown if I don't."

She sighed, then nodded, taking my hand as I lead her over to where Bill and Dad were talking. Bill looked over and saw us first, smiling lightly at us. Dad looked over, and when he saw us excused himself. Nefta seemed to get really nervous as we got closer, but I squeezed her hand in reassurance. "It'll be okay." I whispered, and saw her nod.

"Hey, Bill!" I said, waving once we were close enough.

He nodded. "Kida. Sweetheart."

Nefta looked like she was going to roll her eyes, but didn't. "F-father."

We stood in silence for a moment, before I rolled my eyes and squeezed her hand again. "Oh, come on, just tell him."

She sighed. "Kida has told me that you wish to fix our relationship as Father and daughter."

Bill looked down. "I understand if you don't want to give me another chance-"

"I'll give you one."

Bill looked up with hope in his eyes. "Y-you will?"

Nefta nodded. "Just one."

Bill grinned. "Alright. What can I do for you, sweetie?"

Nefta shook her head. "Not for me. For Mom."

Bill frowned. "Lavina? What's-?"

"She has...been imprisoned."

Bill immediately looked murderous. "Imprisoned?" He all but growled.

"Azrael has told me that after you left and I was born, she was blackmailed into a marriage with another angel, Lucas. He has kept her like a slave for nearly nine centuries, and if you wish to fix our relationship-"

"Lucas?" Bill growled. "I knew there was something wrong with that ball of grime from the moment I laid eyes on him. That cowardly piece of filth, thinking that he can ENSLAVE MY LAVINA!" Bill screamed, his eyes now burning a fiery red. "I'LL TEAR HIM TO SHREDS IF HE SO MUCH AS MOVED A SINGLE PIECE OF HAIR OUT OF PLACE ON HER HEAD!"

Large ash-black wings erupted from his back, and a strange black glow formed around him. He flapped his wings and then he was away, flying upwards. Nefta watched Bill with wide eyes, as though surprised from his reaction. We both looked upwards as he disappeared in the clouds. "I-I-I-" She stammered.

"I guess that he was more than willing to help." I said. "He really loves her." I heard a small whimper, and looked over to see Nefta was crying. "Woah, hey, you okay, Nati?" I asked.

She let out a soft laugh. "H-he loves her..." She said. "He's going to help her. Kida, my Mom is going to be free."

I felt the largest grin appear on my face and quickly hugged her. "Y-yeah. She's going to be okay!"

Me and Nefta both fell to our knees, and I laughed a bit while she started to cry and laugh in happiness. Azrael showed up after a moment, flying around Nefta as though he knew what was going on and was just as happy as Nefta. "S-she's going to be okay, Azrael!" She told him, reaching out and pulling him close to her chest, like a small hug.

I smiled myself, and looked up at the sky, where some of the clouds had turned black. "Yeah. She's gonna be fine."
