Chapter Two ~ This We Vow

Ramona didn't know it then but she had found her mate, for a week she and the man got to know each other more and grew closer.

Then Gaia came back from her hunting, the man was unsure about the dragon but since she had raised Ramona, she couldn't have been all that bad right?

Ramona told her mother the man's story and Gaia knew a dragon who would be willing to teach him dragon slayer magic.

The man was reluctant to learn it from a dragon but if that's the only way then he really had no choice.

And so Ramona and the man flew on Gaia's back to this other dragon.

~~~~~
The other dragon was purple and smaller then Gaia and let's just say not happy about the two humans brought to it's territory.
"Why in the hell have you brought these two humans into my territory?!?!" the purple dragon roared clearly angry at Gaia.
"The boy wants to learn dragon slayer magic" Gaia calmly replied not even phased by the anger radiating off of the other dragon.
The purple dragon huffed turning to the man and looking him over for like a second before turning away with a scoff.
"The boy won't last a week with my magic, why don't you teach him?" the purple dragon asked glancing at Gaia.
"I've already been teaching my daughter, you know i cannot teach any more" Gaia stated.
Meanwhile the man and Ramona were just standing off to the side with sweatdrops, it's not like they were right there.
Although Ramona could forgive the dragons for forgetting, they were huge and humans were tiny compared to them.
The purple dragon huffed again "Fine" it said.
"So you'll teach me?" the man asked hopeful that he could get started on his revenge quest.
"I will but don't think it'll be easy" the purple dragon growled glaring at the man.
~~~~~

The man came to learn that indeed, Dragon Slayer Magic was not easy.

The dragon had warned him yet the man decided to learn it.

Firstly the physical transformations were ... odd to say the least and then there was the magic itself.

The dragon was teaching him Arcane Magic and he was having difficulty wrapping his head around it.

Medivh (the dragon's name) had told him, Arcane Magic was not an elemental magic per say but the closest thing to the One Magic itself.

It was not a single type of magic, it was all magics but also none of them.

If he mastered Arcane Magic he'd be immune to all magic and be able to eat all of them because he himself wasn't tied to one single element or one single type of magic.

But he also wouldn't be able to use those magics, only Arcane Magic, which again wasn't any single type or element of magic but all of them yet also none of them.

And this was where the difficulty came in, he just couldn't understand how one magic was all magics but also none of them.

But he did understand Arcane Magic wasn't the One Magic, just extremely close to it, closer then Stellar Magic even, or so Medivh had told him.

The only solace in this difficult training was Ramona.

That's right, she along with Gaia had decided to stay close by, far enough so that he or Medivh couldn't see what they were doing but close enough so that the two could meet up easily.

He and Ramona would meet up quite often actually and they would continue to grow closer.

~~~~~
That day was like all the others since Ramona had flown with that man on Gaia to Medivh for his teachings.
The sky was a bright blue and without a cloud in sight.
The man had just officially finished his training as a Dragon Slayer.
To reach this goal he had slain Medivh.
Ramona was not sad, the purple dragon while not the worst hadn't been the best either and he had asked the man to slay him.
She could understand why, Medivh had grown old(yes it happens, even to dragons)and he wanted to go out in style.
The man was surprisingly happy to oblige and didn't hesitate, he did sulk for a good while afterwards and Ramona had comforted him, sorta.
She just sat next to him but didn't really say or do anything except letting him know she was beside him and she believed that had been enough because the man had started to sulk less.
He was still kinda broody though but Ramona was fine with it if that was just his nature.
(anyway)On that day that seemed so perfect a shadow had descended on them.
Not a literal shadow, nor a shadow dragon, just a dragon.
Ramona remembered it was cream colored with horns on it's head and that it had attacked Gaia literally out of nowhere.
Normally Gaia wouldn't have had a problem with any dragon that attacked her, whether it was when she was out hunting or surveying the territory.
But this was not normal circumstances for you see Gaia had an egg.
Ramona was ecstatic when she had learned she'd be getting a sibling and also because she had figured how Gaia and Medivh knew each other, they were mates.
Gaia sheepishly admitted the truth, she had been sad over losing her mate but had also forgiven the man for slaying Medivh.(which was certainly a shock)
The man didn't know what being mates meant, which lead to a whole lesson about Dragon Culture.
Little did Ramona know it would be her final lesson.
So yes when the dragon attacked Gaia was at a disadvantage because she was on the defensive because A) it was a surprise attack and B) she was protecting something more precious then her own life.
Ramona had begged and pleaded for Gaia to leave with her egg while she would take on the attacking dragon but Gaia would have none of it.
The man was unsure what to do, he wanted to help but he also wanted to keep Ramona safe, which is why he kept her from running over even though she struggled in his arms.
Then Gaia told him to take Ramona and run for it, she was loosing, she would be killed and Gaia knew it and she feared the attacking dragon would go after her daughter once done with her.
The man hesitated.
"Please" Gaia pleaded as she fought off the cream colored dragon.
"I think of you as my son" she said, the man froze in shock, he had no idea the dragon thought of him as such.
"I would hate to loose you both so take Ramona and run!" Gaia roared barreling into the other dragon taking it off guard.
Ramona screamed and cried as she still struggled in his arms, he bit his lip knocking her out and hauling her over his shoulder before he ran.
After Ramona came too and she convinced him to go back, it was too late for both Gaia and her egg.
The Nature Dragon laid dead on the ground, her crimson blood pooling around the whole area and the fragile egg was completely smashed and there was no sign of the cream colored dragon.
Ramona was shaking taking deep haggard breaths, the man stood at her side holding her steady, then she roared into the sky in anger.
Before collapsing to her knees and wailing in anguish, the man caught her and held her close letting her cry all she wanted into his shoulder.
Ramona eventually calmed down until her sobs were only hiccups but her eyes still streamed with tears, the man wiped them away.
She caught her breath calming down further as she leaned into him, there was a beat of silence as he just held her.
"I'll kill him" Ramona whispered, the man barely heard her but did not reply.
"That cream colored dragon, i'll kill him!" Ramona repeated with more force, the fire of vengeance growing in her eyes.
The man squeezed her shoulder feeling a re-ignition in his own vow of vengeance, Ramona took his other hand and squeezed back.
"We will kill him and any dragon that would harm others" she said looking him in the eye.
"This we vow, lest any dragon harm others human, dragon or otherwise we will slay them, this i vow and to show my conviction i will take a name i despise, Acnologia" he said.
"This we vow and to show my conviction i will carve the name my mother gave me into history, Ramona Garner" she said.
"This we vow" they spoke in unison and a bright light shined as ancient script tattooed itself onto the wrist of their connected hands before dying down.
