THE DOWNTOWN SAVIOUR

"It was a busy day," Finn said, removing THE DOWNTOWN SAVIOUR badge from his coat and putting it carefully on the table. It was the highest honor given to a robot in DOWNTOWN, a city of artificially advanced robots protecting the world.

"Frere?" He called his twin sister.

When he got no reply from Frere, he understood the matter. He knew where to find her, so he turned his heels to the terrace.

He found her sitting alone, staring at the stars. He decided not to break her moment, so he quietly slipped himself onto the seat beside her.

"It's too cold. Isn't it?" He said in a bid to start a conversation.

Frere looked at him and then rolled her eyes. "What is that to you? You can't feel it."

Finn sighed. His gaze fell upon the tiny snowflakes that were slowly descending the heaven. "I can understand how you are feeling now."

Frere got up from her seat and started moving back to the room. But before going, she turned around and said with anger and hurt exposed in her voice, "You know you can't understand how I am feeling now. You never can. Robots don't feel hot or cold, but I do. Why? I ask you why?!"

Finn was now silent. He had no answer to it. Frere continued, taking his silence as an answer, "Because my vanadium heart is frozen?! Don't I ever want to feel the supremacy of a robot, a DOWNTOWN robot!"

Finn also got up from his place and turned to Frere. "You know that I didn't do it on purpose. We were just manufactured, and I needed help understanding my configuration. "

Frere gritted her teeth, and through that, she replied, "So what? So you destroy your unfortunate twin sister's platinum heart to leave her to die?"

Finn had already accepted his fault and apologized several times, but his apologies did not affect her. She was still the cold and frigid sister. "Look, I am sorry, but why don't you understand this?"

Frere's anger reached its zenith. Her computer system became hot, and her vanadium heart started melting. "Why don't I understand this? Do you even know what others call me? They call me Frigid computer. They call me a combination of ones and zeroes."

"Frere, calm down. Your heart is melting."

"Calm down!? I have had enough of this. I don't want to see your face."

"You don't want to see my face?! You have been acting rudely since the honoring ceremony. I know you are jealous because I got THE DOWNTOWN SAVIOUR title, not you." Finn yelled.

"Oh-Oh! You also know I deserved it, not you." Frere replied in an equally high tone.

"Why don't you just leave?" Finn said and dashed inside the room. Frere was left shocked on the terrace. Finn had never talked to her in that tone, and now he was yelling at her. He wanted her to go, so she must.

Frere looked at the endless sky, pitying her; she felt her heart melting. She couldn't make it what she was feeling. Maybe what humans call crying?

She blinked, the feeling of hotness filling her chest, and looked back at her brother for the last time. After that, she didn't mind sparing a glance at anything else. She ignited her rocket boots and jumped from the 52nd floor's terrace.

She felt her body light, her brown curls enjoying the ride. Like a falling star, she vanished into the black sky, which embraced her with affection.

Finn was sitting on his bed, shaking with anger. "Why doesn't she understand that her platinum heart destruction was just an accident? I didn't do it on purpose. But why she always blames me? The world will be better without her."

Not able to control his anger, Finn threw the pillow on the front wall that fell with a 'beep' sound. The sound came from the wall, and the news channel turned on the television. It showed-

"Snowstorm is coming towards DOWNTOWN, DT robots are therefore asked to stay in their respective apartments and lock the rooms with capsules. The frigid temperature and heavy snowfall--"

"Frere?" He yelled. "Frere, turn the capsules down."

Again, he got no reply. So he got up and walked to the terrace. He saw no one. He was confused, so he searched all rooms but still found no one. "Where is that girl now?"

After moving around the room thrice with anger, he concluded that she might have gone to visit the sea, where she usually goes when sad.

I must contact her. He thought and closed his eyes to contact her. But before he could call her, there came a call for him.

Beep, beep. Beep, beep.

"Hello. Finn Manchester, there's an emergency at HQ. Quickly report to the crime branch."

Finn was worried. What could be the emergency? He looked through the window and saw white dots falling from the sky quickly, and cold winds accompanied them.

"So the reports were true." He sighed and went to his room wearing his coat and the DT savior badge. He charged himself in seconds and dashed out of the apartment, igniting the rocket boots.

In a few seconds, a very tall blue building came into view. It was DOWNTOWN HQ, the tallest and most sophisticated structure in DT. Finn flew towards it and soon landed on its extended wing.

His eyes were scanned for identity, after which he was granted permission to enter. When he was going to the crime branch, he saw many robots running here and there in the chaos.

He entered the room whose door directed it to be the crime department, and he noticed agitated faces looking in his direction.

"Oh, Finn! Come, come." An army-like man greeted him, who was standing in the middle, near the projector.

Finn understood the tension of the situation and took his seat. Observing all the faces around him, he asked, "What's happening, Courte?"

Courte looked sympathetically at Finn and replied, "Someone had hacked our system."

"And?" Finn pressed on to spill information out of Courte.

"And we don't know its purpose. But--" Courte turned around, hesitance clear in his voice.

"What but?" Finn shouted, piercing Courte's metal body with his eyes.

"But the shocking news is, the hacker is no one but your sister Frere," Courte said, eager to see Finn's reaction.

"What!?" Finn banged his fists on the table and got up. "Do you have any evidence?" He asked, trying to sound reasonable.

"No. But in DT, only one person knows HQ's system hacking, and that is Frere. Besides, she was traced near HQ before the storm started. So it's quite obvious." Courte replied in a grave monotone.

Before Finn could show his disagreement, a robotic voice filled the room.

"Headquarters self-destruction program initialized. Countdown begins, 5 hours left."

"What?!" Everyone yelled at once. Whichever ears this news fed upon, they started to panic. Chaos filled the room, and robots began running here and there.

Finn looked above, thinking about Frere, when he noticed red digits on the ceiling. It was 4:59:05. The countdown.

Then his gaze fell upon the DOWNTOWN SAVIOUR badge he was wearing. For its honor, it was his duty to protect every one of DT. He swore upon his badge and dashed out of the room.

"So that's what Frere wanted to do, end this city because she can't control it. She doesn't feel at home here. She envied other robots, but she will fall to this level. I can't believe it, and I can't believe my own sister can do such a thing." Finn said to himself, feeling angry about sharing his microchip with his sister. They were twins, so they were made of the same microchip, but maybe one of them was corrupted.

Snow met his face very roughly, and wind opposed his flight reasonably. Weather wasn't cooperative for Finn, but his determination led his way.

When clueless about his next step, Finn stopped at a building and announced a warning to evacuate DOWNTOWN.

As soon as the robots received that warning, they started leaving their apartments to exit the city. In the snowstorm, metal was suffering. Thousands of robots could be seen from the sky, carrying a backpack and moving towards the city's main exit.

Finn was helping newly manufactured robots in evacuation. A newbie called Helston faced difficulty with his rocket boots, and Finn flew to him to help. Helston thanked him and said, "Mr. Finn Manchester isn't that true that if the HQ blasts, the whole earth will be affected because of the nuclear weapons stored there?"

This left Finn silent. How could such a piece of important information slip his mind? According to the new international peace treaty, all nuclear weapons and radioactive materials were stored in DOWNTOWN HEADQUARTERS.

"Helston. Can you do me a favor? Take this DT SAVIOUR BADGE and to protect the people. Help them evacuate the city." Finn said firmly to Helston, handing him over the badge.

Helston looked at the badge very expectantly, feeling the burden of responsibilities on his metal shoulders. He gratefully took it and wore it on his jacket. When he saw Finn flying away to HQ, he asked, "Where are you going?"

Finn turned back and replied, " To save the world."

With that, he accelerated his rocket boots to the fastest to reach HQ as soon as possible. Helston watched as he vanished from his view. He then realized his duty and boosted his work. "You are very obstinate, Finn Manchester. "

Finn had a safe landing on the top floor of HQ. He turned off his rocket booster and ran to the NUCLEAR sector. He saw a hole saying 'Garbage Disposal' and went towards it. As soon as he jumped into that hole, laser verified his whole body. The robotic voice boomed, 'GRANTING ACCESS TO NUCLEAR WEAPONS AND MATERIALS. WELCOME, FINN MANCHESTER. '

Finn closed his eyes, and out of the blue, his sister's words kept ringing in his ears.

"You also know Finn and I deserved the DOWNTOWN SAVIOUR title. I am better than you in everything. I am a better learner, a better fighter, a better technician, a better manufacturer, a better negotiator, and an ONLY verified hacker. You are no match for me! But what they did, was they rejected me. Why? Only because I work on frozen vanadium heart, which, when it melts, my engine turns off. Finn Manchester, you stole my platinum heart. You stole my DT Saviour badge. You stole my life!"

Finn was busy roaming aimlessly in his maze of memories when a familiar monotone voice embraced his ears, "NUCLEAR SECTION REACHED. DOOR OPENING IN 5 SECONDS."

"I have to be quick," Finn said to himself and jumped out of his seat. He looked at the massive metal door, counting silently with the machine. When the doors parted, a very metallic room greeted Finn's eyes. He had been in this room only twice as it was a very secret room.

He entered the room to see metal boxes stacked against one another. He went near one, grabbed three boxes at a time, and flew back the way he had come. He took those boxes out of the city to another secret basement called the DT SAVIOUR chamber. It was a capsule room gifted to DT SAVIOUR at his appointment, and Finn was doing its best use.

Again, Finn came back and took three. Throughout all this journey, Finn's rocket boosters were fully accelerated. He had to carry around 210 boxes, and with that speed, the odds were in his favor.

Finn successfully carried 207 boxes outside in the DT SAVIOUR chamber and was ready to go for the last round. He checked his battery, it was almost drained, but he could make it. He shut down his other features like communication and visuals, now only sound and a predefined path leading him to his destination.

Finn came back and heard the countdown. "Only 10 seconds left. 10,9--" after that, he didn't bother to listen to that sound. He picked up the boxes and headed towards the exit door.

He knew he wouldn't make it out with the boxes and chose to die saving the world. He put his own protective capsule over the boxes, standing vulnerable at the mouth of death.

The countdown reached at 3. "3,2,1."

After that, a huge 'boom' could be heard, and all turned black.

"Are you okay? Finn, are you okay?" Finn opened his eyes and found himself in a robot factory capsule. He could see Helston leaning against his capsule.

"Hey! Finn! I have to return your badge." Helston said and took out a badge from his pocket. He held it in his palm and pointed it to Finn. "Remember this?"

"Yes. But how?" Finn spoke, deep in his thoughts, trying to search his computer for that day's memories.

"Oh. Don't worry." Helston cooed.

"No. I'm sorry for whatever my sister did." Finn said, feeling ashamed of calling Frere his sister.

Helston shook his head and looked deeply into his eyes, "Oh no. This place is safe. Nothing happened. Countdown stopped.

Remember the hacker? It was none but the Courte himself. He was jealous of you being honored as DOWNTOWN SAVIOUR not him. He chalked out this havoc, and he was the hacker. Frere had been teaching him some basics of hacking for the security concern of HQ. She thought someone else besides her must know this too, and you were busy with your duty.

And yes, how did this countdown stop? It's your sister Frere.

After you left, she came to me and asked me to evacuate the city. Then she went to the HQ Security department, and after that, I don't know.

But the janitor told me he found this near the main computer."

Helston took out a microchip from his pocket and handed it to Finn.

"The janitor found the room blasted with a piece of vanadium in a floppy section. Nothing was left but this chip and a melted vanadium heart."
