IV

A few days later, Seth woke up to a crashing noise coming from outside the cave. He turned to his side, squinting as sunlight streamed through the skylight. He sat up, yawning, and flexed his large, leathery bat wing. He heard another crash, followed by a string of curses. Seth glanced at Fae's side of the room, and found it neat and tidy, the girl gone.

"Fae you okay?" he shouted. A bang sounded, followed by another curse.

"Yup! All good!" Fae called.
Seth smiled. Fae might look like a sweet, innocent girl, but she sure wasn't all that once you got to know her.

Seth walked up to Fae glaring down at a piece of scrap metal, hands on her hips, foot tapping frustratedly.

"What're you making?" he inquired.

"Making? Ha! I was mending my jeans because a pot had ripped them when all the sudden my loom crumpled!" Fae said, turning to Seth.

"This was your loom?" Seth asked incredulously. Fae's loom was beautiful - an ivory colored wooden frame with glittering silver and gold accents, not this piece of garbage.

"Yep. That is my loom, "Fae sighed, crouching down and fiddling with a thin piece of wood.

"Why didn't you call me to help? You know I'm good with metals!" Seth said.

"Well... I didn't want to wake you, and you need your sleep, so..." Fae started. "You can help me now though!" she beckoned to Seth to crouch beside her.

Seth, shaking his head, picked up some pieces of metal and went to work. In a matter of minutes, the loom was back to it's glistening state.

"Thank you, Seth!" Fae jumped up and gave him a big hug. "You're the best."

"It's nothing," Seth muttered, flustered and blushing.

"Now, let me finish mending my jeans, then I have something to show you. I'll just be a second," Fae kneeled down again and started threading the jeans back together, and within a couple minutes, the jeans looked brand new. Fae folded them and set them on the top of the loom.

"Follow me," she instructed. Fae set off, leading towards, the forest surrounding their clearing.

"So what is this thing you're showing me?" Seth inquired. He figured it could be anything; the forest was full of nature.

"You'll see," Fae said mysteriously. The girl stepped lightly through the woods while Seth clomped after her.

Suddenly, Fae stopped, almost sending Seth crashing into her. He steadied himself on a tree, then looked up. They were at the entrance to a cave.

"This is what you wanted to show me?" he said.

"You haven't seen the inside yet," Fae responded, and started walking into the dark cave mouth. "C'mon!" she called.

Seth hurried after her, temporarily blind before his eyes adjusted to the dark. When they did, he gazed around in awe.
