Starboy 🤔
SUMMARY: I have been thinking about making this into an AU, but I don't wanna do anything yet, because I haven't finished Ghost of You. This is a Kailor AU. If you don't know, 'starboy,' basically means a man, who enjoys the company of more than one woman at a time. In other words, a playboy. These are a few scenes I had mapped out in my mind. Enjoy!
Skylor's POV
I was supposed to be meeting Kai here soon. The library felt deserted, yet so full. And I was in the midst of the silent, ongoing chaos, bag strapped to my back, textbooks tightly in my hand. Where was Kai?
I see Nya seated at one of the tables, with her boyfriend Jay. Neither of them seem to notice me; they seem pretty focused on whatever nerdy conversation they were having. I suddenly spot spikes of brown hair sticking up from one of the lower bookshelves, and I grin. That grin fades as I hear a hushed conversation between him and another girl. Frowning, I discreetly push aside the dusty books, before listening in.
This feels wrong, eavesdropping into a conversation, but wouldn't you be curious too, if your boyfriend was talking to another girl behind your back?
"Listen, Kai, your side of the bet's fulfilled. You managed to win over Skylor Chen, the girl who claims- well...claimed that romance wasn't worth her time. Now initiate Part 2. Dump her. The money's yours. Just as Lloyd promised."
Dump? Why would Kai bet on me?
"Sel, that jackass isn't worth a moment of my time. Not after what he did to my sister, and screwed me over. That's my money he's using for the bet. Not his. Mine."
What was Seliel doing with Kai?
"But...you're still dumping her, right?"
I heard Kai sigh, "How d'you want me to do it?"
"The Signature Kai style. Ghost, then dump."
"Fine...that money had better be safe. 200 bucks. I'll be counting."
There was a shuffle, and I heard a small smooch, as if he had kissed Seliel or Seliel had kissed him.
SCENE 2
Skylor's POV
Class ended, and I took my sweet time, packing up all my items. It had been a few days since Kai and I broke up, and I honestly didn't know what to feel. So many emotions were clouding over, and there was only one person I could talk to.
There she was, on the other side of the lecture room, zipping her bag up. Slinging my own bag across my back, I approach her cautiously, "Hey...are you done with your classes for today?"
Her glasses were slipping and she took them off, slipping them into her pocket, "Yeah. What's up?"
"Could we maybe...grab a coffee? I just have to talk to you about..."
She raised an eyebrow, "Kai?"
"Yeah..."
"Sure. I know a really good place that sells the best mocha lattes..."
LATER
My hands wrap around the warm mug and bring them to my lips as I take a sip. It's chocolatey and I could taste the coffee within the drink. The whipped cream was a great addition too. Nya clears her throat, as do I, and we both start talking, before abruptly stopping. She nodded towards me, "You go first."
"Oh, no, it's okay, you go ahead."
She cradled the mug in her hands as if she was trying to warm her palms up as she spoke, "I love my brother- and believe me when I say this -I'm not happy with his...playboy status either. We all have different ways of coping with sadness and anger...Kai's coping method just happens to be juggling girls like crazy."
She glanced outside the window at the busy streets dusted with a light coating of snow, "I hated every single one of those girls he brought home. You, however, were a different case. You weren't fake and rude like those basic bitches with their bleached blonde highlights and orange skin. I liked you. I still do, and I genuinely thought you and my brother would be an awesome couple."
"Guess fate decided we weren't meant to be," I sigh, swirling the liquid around in the mug. Nya looks at me sadly, "I'm sorry, Sky. I didn't know about the bet. I just wanna kill him."
"Who, Kai?"
She corrects me, "Lloyd. It was his idea. I overheard a conversation between him and Seliel a few days after you two started dating." I stifle a smile, "We were only dating for a few days."
"Three weeks and 4 days." A blush crept across her cheeks, "Normally Kai's flings last from three days to a week. So when you guys didn't break up, it gave me hope."
"Lloyd owes Kai 200 bucks." I add quietly, "Why?"
"Um...there was a party that Lloyd was hosting around a month and a half back and he kinda...borrowed 200 bucks from Kai for alcohol. He was supposed to earn the money back and give it to Kai at the party just a few weeks back, but then he saw you, and proposed the bet. Kai accepted, claiming that there would be no hard feelings, but I guess things changed."
"A bet's a bet, huh?"
"I'm sorry-"
I cut her off, "You don't need to apologise, I don't see why-"
"Because I didn't tell you sooner!"
"What?"
She exhales shakily, "I should have told you the minute I heard about the bet to save the heartbreak. I thought it would blow over and the hatchet would be buried."
"You had an instinct and you followed it. I'm not mad." For some reason, it felt like she was hiding something, but I didn't pry further.
SCENE 3
Nya's POV
"...what? Oh, don't look at me like that, Seliel! He finishes the bet, and the money's his! It's like taking candy from a baby."
"Fine...but if this backfires, I will not take responsibility."
"And I don't expect you to either. Go."
I quickly duck behind the bend in the wall, but unfortunately, I was too slow. Lloyd spots me, and the next thing I know I'm sprinting down the corridor, him hot on my heels. I was approaching a bend soon, and I curved into a sharp turn.
Time for the next obstacle: an automatically locking door. Skidding to a halt, I pant heavily as I fumble through the code, hands shaking. I may have dated Lloyd in the past, but I'm terrified when he's in rage-mode.
A strong hand grips my arm and I'm hauled into the deserted student lounge. The door shuts and locks behind me, and I turn to see Lloyd, steam practically blowing out of his ears, "How much did you hear?"
"Enough for me to piece everything together."
He approaches me, "I swear on my grandfather, if you open your mouth and tell-"
I scoff, "You'll do what? Ask dear old dad to suspend me? Need I remind you where my mother works? Not the college, but the student education government." I have no clue what I'm doing; I just hope I get out of here alive.
He takes in a sharp breath, "If you tell anyone, I will do something I will probably regret, mark my words."
"Your guilt and regrets aren't a big priority of mine."
"Is that so?" His voice is laced with fury, and poison, "I can read you like a book. I know what scares you. And sweetheart, if you think for a second that I won't use that to my advantage, think again."
He shoves past me, slamming the door after him, and I'm left alone.
SCENE 4
Skylor's POV (continues on from scene 2)
The bell jingles, signifying someone has entered the café. Nya peers behind to see who has walked through the door, and immediately whips her head back around, keeping her head low, "They don't know that you know about all of this. Act dumb."
Slightly confused at the interaction, I nod, just as Lloyd approaches us, a smile plastered across his face, "Ladies, didn't expect to see you here!"
"It's a free place, get in line," Nya mutters, and I stifle a chuckle. Lloyd's smile falters when he sees her, before clearing his throat, "Anyways...your brother asked me to collect you. I suggest we go now-"
"You aren't on good terms with my brother at the moment." Nya states flatly, not meeting his gaze. I cautiously sip my drink, watching the duo. Lloyd tugs at her arm, pulling her out of her seat, "Sorry I had to break up your café date. Another time, maybe?"
Before I could say anything, he has an arm slung across Nya's shoulders and is guiding her out through the doors.
Nya's POV
The minute we reach the car park, I tug free of his grasp, "What the hell was that?!" He wordlessly gestures towards the passenger's seat and I stare at him, "Why?"
"We need to talk...about Kai." Kai's name rings through my ears, and I open the door, stooping down to get onto the seat, before tugging the seatbelt across my body, tugging it into place.
He gets into the driver's seat and starts the car. We drive through the busy streets wordlessly, until we reach an empty highway, brightly lit by street lamps. Keeping his gaze on the road, he asks, "Why were you there with her?"
"What, am I not allowed to talk with my brother's girlfriend? Oh, no wait...ex girlfriend. How did this happen, by the way?"
Lloyd grips onto the steering wheel tightly, "What did you tell her?"
"None of your business. I don't need you constantly monitoring my every move." He places his foot down on the gear, slowly speeding up, "Didn't I tell you I would use your fears to my advantage? Let's try again. What did you tell her?"
"Oh, I dunno, the sum of Pi. What do you think?"
He adds more pressure onto the gas pedal, and I grip onto the seats, "Why on Earth are you asking me these dumb questions when you already know the answers?"
"Tell me everything you told her, and spare no detail."
"Aaaand...why would I do that?"
Again. The car picks up more speed, but Lloyd's face remains emotionless, "Nya, I swear to FSM..."
The car is now close to hitting the maximum speed limit, "Stop." I order.
He chuckled, asking the same question I asked a mere few seconds ago. "Aaaand...why would I do that?"
"We're gonna get pulled over." I whisper. Lloyd doesn't slow down, "In case you haven't noticed, the highway is empty. And the road cameras are all broken. Now, are you gonna tell me what you told her?"
Panic rises within me, "Stop the car."
He whined playfully, "Oh, but that takes all the fun out of it!"
"I said stop." I may not be a psychic, but I'm pretty sure that there's gonna be an accident if he doesn't slow this machine down.
Oh boy, I was gonna regret this. Reaching over, I unbuckled my belt, before grabbing the wheel, lifting my right leg over and jamming my foot on the brakes, kicking his own foot out of the way. The car lurched to a halt, and I felt my heart do a backflip.
Working quickly, I get out of the car, slamming the door behind me, before I make a run for it.
And I don't look back.
These are some ideas I have for Starboy, but I don't know if I'll add them all in or not so...ye XD
And yes, Lloyd's a bit of a jerk in this book, but I needed the toxicity to be there! But, it'll be Jaya, and hinted toxic Lloya, with big climaxes like scene 4
