Chapter 8. All Alone in the Never Ending World
I woke up cocooned in the bed sheets, with the Doctor no where to be found. I got up from my little sheet cave and made my way towards the kitchen to make myself some breakfast. Peppermint tea, raisin bread toast, and an apple on the side. Nothing fancy, but that's what I had almost every morning.
I sat down and ate my food quietly, waiting to see if I could hear any noises from out in the hall. But nothing happened, nothing creaked, nothing banged; it was like I was all alone in the universe, the only one left floating throughout time and space.
Which might as well be true, I thought, if the Master is out loose in the TARDIS.
I put my dirty plate and cup in the dishwasher. It was just like a normal day in the TARDIS. Except I was in the Doctor's room, the Master was on board with me, and the Doctor wasn't here to save me if I needed saving.
If the Doctor isn't here and I am required to do something, the next best thing would be to call River and see what she wants to do.
I called up River and after explaining my situation, she used her vortex manipulator and appeared right in front of me.
I told her my situation again, and asked her what to do. She didn't know what to do either, considering she doesn't know about the Master, but said that she would stay with me till the Doctor came back.
I was going to turn on the TV when I remembered how the Master spontaneously put up a video of himself all throughout the TARDIS, yet the Doctor hasn't even seen it. Sneaky, smart, a lunatic, he was really a genius, but everyone has there weak points even geniuses.
My only question, how did the Doctor not see or, at least, hear the message?
The Doctor must have at least heard the message, which means that the Doctor knew that the Master was there, that the Doctor isn't just blindly walking to his death.
I went to go thank River and tell her that she could go, but her attention was focused on something else. I peered around her shoulder to see the book Melody Malone.
"River, why does that book seem so interesting to you?"
"Because it was written by me. I did write it, and published it, but you shouldn't have it. This is about the Doctor's next regeneration, so that means that whatever you read in that book must happen in the future. Or past. I'm terribly sorry, it's even confusing for the Doctor."
"So I can't read ahead?"
"You shouldn't read ahead."
"So I can read ahead?" She is more confusing than the Doctor when he rambles on and on. I can at least understand some of his words, but it sounded like she was just talking to me and informing in on complete and utter nonsense.
"But you shouldn't read ahead."
"How far can I read to?"
"Chapter 6. But no further. You must not read ahead. Because once you read ahead, its set in stone forever."
"Okay. And River?" I walked over to wear she was sitting down on the bed.
"Yes."
"Thanks."
She used her vortex manipulator and vanished. Now I turned all my attention to the Doctor and about his safety. He knew about the Master, he knew I would find out. He wants me to go out there and help him beat the Master. That is, if the Master is still in the TARDIS. Though, I'm pretty sure the Master will only leave when I've learned my lesson.
Outside in the hall I still heard nothing but silence, so I deemed it safe to go and venture through the TARDIS. That is, before the TV flickered to life.
I slowly turned around to face the screen. On it, was the Master. With another warning. He said that he had the Doctor and that if I were to leave the room and try to intervene that he would shoot the Doctor then and there. And then the Doctor would regenerate.
So the only thing I can do now, is read Melody Malone, and try not to break down crying.
/////////////{Later On}/////////////
It's been 5 hours since I saw the Masters message and about 5 hours and a half since River left. I read the book up to chapter 6 about 3 times already. Thats all I felt like I could do. I got bored though. At around the 3 hour mark I went to his dresser and looked at what was on top of it. There were bolts and screws that looked like they use to be used for the console, but the rust that envelopes them must've made the Doctor replace them. There was a watch, a fob watch, with strange circles on it. There was also a brown, worn out book, with no title on it. I opened up the first page to see the Doctor's handwriting with the title. 'The 900 year old diary.' I wanted to read it, but I was afraid to see something that I would later regret. I was afraid to see an entry about me.
Right now I'm sitting on the still messy bed with a notebook and the book Melody Malone beside me. There were notes in the margins every few pages, so I decided to write them down. Some notes were just simply stating 'I like this part', but others weren't that simple. They weren't stating if the book was good, they were warnings. For the Doctor. For me.
I had written down all of the notes except for one. As I was writing down the last note, the TV flicked on. But it wasn't the Master. On the screen was the man I wanted to see, the man that has saved the universe a countless amount of times.
The Doctor.
He looked panicked, and very, very scared. He kept looking around behind him to see if The Master was coming. I recognized the room he was in, still in the TARDIS. It was my room. He was chained to the bed post and left sitting on the floor. He finally looked at the camera he was holding and started talking to me ever so silently. I didn't make out a lot of words, but I did make out this message,
"Leyna, the Master will kill me either way, but if you leave the room you have a chance to save me. Please be careful. I can take as many bullets as I like and regenerate, but you only have one life. Please, just... be careful."
The screen cut to black and started fizzing. I'm afraid that that message could be the last thing the Doctor will ever say to me, but I can't afford to think like that.
I have to save the Doctor, and if I die in the process, then the Master gets what he wants.
/////////////{Later On}/////////////
I just left the Doctor's room about ten minutes ago, but couldn't get to my room because the TARDIS kept switching the corridors and hallways around. I guess she cared for me a lot.
Doctor's POV
I'm in Leyna's room, the room I designed and constructed for her. Ever since she had that panic attack yesterday, I knew that the Master was involved. She must have been really scared because she wanted me to cuddle with her. I did, and I stayed awake all night because, Time-Lords don't usually sleep. I think she stayed up all night, too, but because she was afraid.
I sent her a message about how she should come or the Master would come kill me anyways. He really wanted to mess with her. All because she remembered.
The Master walked in wearing his usual brown sweater. He came over and used his sonic to get me out of my chains. He took me over to a little trolley where he then tied my arms and legs to, and put bands around my forehead and mouth. My sonic was on Leyna's bedside table, collecting dust.
I started to scream at the Master and try to reason with him about how we were the last two left and how he shouldn't kill me, but only muffled noises came out because of the band around my mouth.
The master came right up to me and looked at me right in the eyes.
"What hurt you carry, Doctor. But you don't know anything about being insane. The drums. Will it stop Doctor? The drumming? Will it stop?"
I wanted to tell him that it wasn't his fault that the drumming was always there, that it wasn't his fault he became insane. That it was the Gallifreyan Time-Lord High Council that showed him the vastness of time and space when he was just a little boy. But all that came out, was a distorted murmur.
The Master was going to start with some witty comment when the bedroom door opened to a very scared 22 year old.
Leyna.
Leyna's POV
I opened the door to my bedroom to see the Master pacing around the Doctor, probably giving him a lecture on how he would never be defeated. And all the Doctor could do was stand patiently and listen since he had a band around his mouth.
"Go ahead, then", the Master started, "Free him. Here's the key."
I took the key from the Master and went to go unlock the Doctor. As soon as he was fully unlocked, he jumped up to the table and grabbed his sonic screwdriver and I'm guessing the other one was the Master's sonic screwdriver. The Master turned to me.
"I remember the days when the Doctor, oh, that famous Doctor... was waging a Time War, battling Sea Devils, and Axons, he sealed the Rift at the Medusa Cascade, single handed. And look at him no, stealing screwdrivers... How did he ever come to this?" He waited a few seconds before walking right in front of me, both of our faces centimeters apart. "Oh yes! Me!" he spat.
"Just... Listen to me! We're..."
"No, it's my turn. Revenge. Best served hot." The Doctor was trying to say something when the Master cut him off, rudely may I add. Wait... revenge? The only way to get to the Doctor is to kill or hurt someone he loves, someone who he cares about, someone who he travels with. Me.
The Master brought up a gun from his pocket and pointed it at me, but I have a fast reaction so I went and dived under the bed right before the shot was fired. The Doctor used his sonic on the Master so that the gun was on the floor.
I picked up the gun and pointed it at the Master.
"Leyna, put it down," The Doctor pointed his sonic at me. I slowly put the gun on the ground. The Doctor turned to the Master and I could see the gears in his brain turning, thinking of something to say.
