Chapter 5. Blood, Sweat, and Tears
Words like when your loved ones die and you can't do anything about it.
I released from the hug and looked into his eyes. His sad, 906 year old eyes. And I cried with him.
We walked back to the console room in silence. The floor was stained with our tears.
"Doctor, I'm sorry."
"That's okay. It already happened, we can't go back and change history."
I sat down on one of the jump seats and thought about what he told me about Rose. He never admitted it, but I know that he loved her. Though, I don't think he ever got the chance, and now she's gone.
"Did you tell her you love her?"
"Sorry ... what?" The Doctor asked, turning around to actually face me.
"Doctor, I know you heard me. And I know you love her. The way you talk about her, or the way your eyes light up when I mention her name. The question is, does she know? Did you ever get the chance to tell her before it happened?"
"No. I never did. I almost did. She told me she loved me and I went to tell her but, it was too late."
"Oh. I'm very sorry."
"It's fine really."
And, cue awkward silence. Thats how it was most of the time. Me asking questions, or an awkward silence. And I just hated it. Sometimes its like we've known each other for all our lives, and other times, its like we've just met.
All of a sudden, a knock came from the door.
"Doctor, aren't we in deep space?"
He looked at the door quizzically then looked back at me.
"Yes."
Who would be knocking on our door if we were in deep space? Who's out there? I instantly think that it's Harold Saxon, AKA the Master, but that would be too soon. The Master is known for taking his time. Having a little fun while destroying your life.
"Leyna, meet River Song, archeologist."
I hadn't realized that in that time I was thinking and staring at the floor that the Doctor had checked the little screen and opened the door.
"Hi." I wasn't good with new people, its just trust issues. It's just because I don't want to be left by myself again.
"Oh Doctor, another girl. Now, have we done Tjecksian yet? No, what about Barquin? No, okay, where are we?" (A/N sorry in advance for River, I just can't seem to get anyone's characters.) She was looking through this book, maybe her diary, at all the dates and things that she and the Doctor have done together. Or will do together, it's just really confusing.
"Well, Leyna and I just came back from Barcelona."
"Oh, so you did decide to go. Wait, that's wrong. That never happened."
"What do you mean that never happened? The Doctor and I just came from there."
Something was wrong. This lady was wrong, so I decided to get up and sneak a look at her book.
"Hey, spoilers!"
She said, pulling the book back towards herself. I saw one page, it had a sticky note on it that said, 'don't tell the Doctor your real name'. Also, a picture of a mountain with a caption 'Mount Clay, Civarian planet.'
"Hey, Doctor, why don't we go to mount Clay, on the Civarian planet?"
The Doctor looked at me wit a questionable look that said how-did-you-know-that-place, but I just gestured over to River who was already working controls on the TARDIS.
The TARDIS started to shake and make its signature whirr-chunk, whirr-chunk noise.
"You can tag along if you want", she said, gesturing to me.
Okay, this River girl is making me feel as worthless as The Master made me feel. The TARDIS stopped turning and violently shaking and River walked out the door. I looked over at the Doctor who was getting up from the ground.
"Who is she?"
"I don't know." Even though he didn't know who she was, he still followed her out the door. Great. I didn't want to stay in the TARDIS alone because I didn't know how long they would be gone, so I walked out the doors.
I was standing in tall grass that had some 4ft tall, rainbow coloured flowers growing everywhere. To my left there was a huge mountain, which I'm assuming is Mount Clay, and to my right there was a resort filled with all different kinds of aliens. I walked over to the resort and saw the Doctor and River waiting right before the gates.
"See, I told you she'd come," River said not even looking at me.
We walked over to the alien that was working the front gate. He looked completely human except for his blue skin and his three eyes.
"Hello, welcome to mount Clay resorts. Are you on the guests list?"
"Here" the Doctor said while taking out his psychic paper. I only knew about it because he told me about how he used it when Rose was around.
"Oh, sorry your majesties. Right this way."
He led us over to a pool with a few umbrellas, chairs, and tables. River and I sat down beside each other while the Doctor went to go get us drinks.
"Who are you?"
"I'm River Song, I'm an archeologist." I waited so that she would actually look at me.
"Your real name. Please."
"What do you mean?" It was obvious that she was like the Doctor, they both had titles to go by, but they never shared there actual names.
"River Song isn't your real name, and don't worry, I won't tell the Doctor."
"Fine. Melody Pond."
Pond? Pond? Like the last name on that gravestone. Who is she?
"Okay, now my turn. How are you here?"
"Well, the Doctor found me one day and asked me to travel with him."
"But he was never supposed to meet you."
"But the ood said."
She sat up from her seat, making me sit up from mine.
"But that's, that never happened!"
She got her diary from her pocket and checked the pages, seeing if this did happen or didn't. I couldn't see the words, but her book started glowing.
"Oh my gosh!"
"What?"
She showed me the book, and I didn't get it at first, but then I saw that one word. It was changing. All the words were changing. Some words were replaced with my name, or my name was just added in. Some entries completely changed.
"But how?"
I looked over at River who then snatched the book from me, closed it, then stuffed it back in her pocket.
"What did I miss?" The Doctor asked while putting our drinks on the table.
"Nothing, Sweetie." River put on a fake smile and started sipping her drink.
"Who are we today?" I asked the Doctor. I wanted to know what the psychic paper said.
"Well, River and I are the king and queen of Tribecia planet, and you Leyna, you are the princess."
River put her drink down and looked at the Doctor.
"What happens when they find out that Tribecia exploded 200 years ago?"
I looked over at the Doctor, worried.
"We run."
\\\\\\\\\\\\\{later on}\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
We walked into our hotel room. The Doctor was scanning everything with his sonic.
"So, Doctor, you're telling me that there is some evil plan happening on the mountain?" I looked over at River who was also helping the Doctor sonic things.
"Maybe, but if it is, the question is, who's plan is it?"
We heard people running down the hall and burst into every room on their way.
"Sweetie, we have to leave", River said in a concerning tone.
"Okay, just let me---" the Doctor said while still sonicking.
"Now!!" River and I yelled in unison.
Three men burst in the door. Well they weren't really men. Weren't actually humans either. They had a tall, slender figure, they were wearing tuxedos, and they had these really strange faces.
"Doctor, what are----", I turned around to ask the Doctor something, but what was I going to say?
I put on an apologetic smile on and asked, "Sorry, were you guys saying something?"
"Leyna, look in front of you, and don't look back. Even if you want to tell me something, don't look back", River told me. Why, what was there? And why did River have tally mark on her?
I turned around like the Doctor said and saw them. Whatever they were. There were three men standing in the doorway. Well, they weren't really human at all. Must be some sort of alien, I thought to myself. But what kind?
"Doctor, River, what are these... things?" I was going to turn around, but River turned my head forward.
"Leyna, keep looking forward."
"Well, what are they?"
I walked towards them but stopped abruptly when I heard something shatter behind me. I wanted to look back so bad, but if I did... Well, there must be a good reason. Otherwise the Doctor wouldn't be freaking out.
"They're the silence. When you're looking at them you know exactly what they look like and that they're there. Turn your head, and they will never have existed to you", River explained. "Thats why I have tally marks. So that when I forget, I know they were there", she added, showing me her arm.
I looked at the strange creatures closely. They were really creepy. Then, the one in the middle started to speak.
"Doctor, your song is ending. Silence will fall."
I had to know what they were talking about.
"What do you---" they walked out of the doorway and back out the hall.
"Sorry, were we leaving?"
I turned around to ask River and the Doctor, and they both had blank expressions on their faces.
"Hey, what's with the blank expressions? And River, tally marks? Really? What are those for?"
River looked down and saw tally marks. She started freaking out.
"Doctor, please tell me you wrote down what they said." River looked over at the Doctor. The Doctor just turned around and started sonicking.
"What who said?" The Doctor asked, still sonicking. River sat down on the green bed and started searching her arms and legs to see if she wrote anything down.
"River," I walked over to the bed and sat beside her, "Are you okay?"
She looked at my arm and her face turned into one of excitement. You know when you're little, and you get to have pet dog? A face like that. Except I have no idea why she was smiling.
"Leyna, Leyna, Leyna! You're so clever! Look!"
River brought my arm to my face and I saw writing on it.
"Doctor, your song is ending, Silence will fall." I read aloud.
"Who told you that?" the Doctor asked. I looked over at River, but she jut had a blank expression again.
"River", she looked at me, "Who said this?"
She looked at my arm with a confused look saying, "Sorry, sweetie, I don't know what you're talking about."
"But River", I showed her her own arm, "What are these?"
She instantly looked sick after I showed her tally marks. I don't get it though, there's just tally marks.
"The silence."
"The what?" the Doctor questioned, finally joining in on the conversation.
"No time to explain, we have to get to the TARDIS right now, I'll explain there."
///////////(in the TARDIS)//////////
River told us all about the silence, how they follow a religion, what they do, the science behind it. But still, the Doctor only had one question.
"How did they know about that?"
"Doctor what do you mean?" I needed to know. This whole day has just been confusing for me.
"Th ood, they told me that my song was ending. When I hear him knock four times."
"Who knock four times?" River questioned.
The Doctor answered with a name I never wanted to hear, a name that made me sick to my stomach.
"The Master."

A/N
I guess this is some sort of AU where Donna never happened, therefor it is the master that will knock four times, not Wilfred. But don't worry, we still have about ten chapters till that happens. Maybe even more. Have a fantastic day! ~Mikaila
