Chapter 36. Allons-y!
Leyna's POV
"The inevitable like this is all one joke and we're really just going on another adventure?" I asked the Doctor, knowing the answer would be no.
"Leyna, I wish", he hung his coat on the hanger.
He walks back over to the console and flips the lever that I flipped before so the TARDIS would stop.
"Doctor, there's just so much I want to tell you. So much that was unsaid and I....." he leaned down and kissed me.
While we were kissing I thought about all the adventures we had and all the adventures that we could of had. Him saying Allons-y more, us fighting aliens, meeting historic people like Vincent Van Gogh, my favourite artist, or saving the world again.
I remember us being fanatics about Arrow and going on amazing adventures. It was just so wonderful, and I don't want it to end. Because if you got the chance to travel with the Doctor, you would want it to last forever, without any worries (okay maybe a few), little danger (a lot of danger), and a huge amount of fun (most of the time). It's like a dream, but now my alarm clock is going off, forcing me to wake up.
After we were done kissing, and we pulled away for air, I asked him, tears streaming down my face, "why did you just kiss me?" I asked him.
He wiped my tears and said, "This will be the last time you see this face", he told me, "might as well make it memorable. But hey, we'll still go travelling, right?"
"Yeah", I answered distantly. If only we could travel more.
"Leyna, what's wrong?" he asked.
"It's just that..." some regeneration energy shot from his hand.
"I just want to say..." I continued, but more regeneration energy came.
"Doctor, can you just say allons-y, your favourite thing to say, and we just pretend like this is another adventure?" I asked him, crying again. He started crying, too.
His favourite saying, 'allons-y', which is French for 'let's go', is what he usually says before a lot of adventures. He loves it, just like he says Geronimo for his next regeneration, or fantastic for his previous one. He loved this saying. I was expecting him to say it, but instead, I got an English version of something the same but not so exciting.
"I don't want to go", he said.
"What?" I asked, not wanting him to repeat but also hoping I heard wrong.
"I don't want to go", he repeated.
I know what happens next. He regenerates and he moves on to Amy and Rory. But why does he move on to Amy and Rory? Oh my gosh. He moves on because I die.
The golden regeneration energy starts travelling around him and, right before it shoots out of his hands, I run and hug him.
"Leyna, let go", he pleaded.
"I don't want to let go", I told him.
"I don't want to go", he repeated again.
He embraced me, but then his arms shot out and regeneration energy shot out from them, causing tiny little explosions within the TARDIS. And through the whole time that this was happening, I stood there, still holding him.
After he was done regenerating, I was thrown to the floor, pain filling each and every little nook and cranny of me, making me shake and shiver. I couldn't even prop myself on my elbows, I just lay there on the ground, not able to talk for the first few minutes. And, that was completely okay, because the new Doctor was studying his new self. He didn't even mind the couple of fires that were filling the TARDIS with smoke.
While he was studying himself, i got the chance to study him as well. I never realized how much this regeneration actually looked like an alien. No eyebrows, a mighty chin, and that hair. It was so sticky uppy before and now it's just ehh.
"Legs. I've still got legs. Good. Arms. Hands. Ooo, fingers. Lots of fingers. Ears, yes. Eyes, two. Nose, I've had worse. Chin, blimey. Hair. I'm a girl! No. No. I'm not a girl. And still not ginger. And something else. Something important. Umm... umm... umm..."
"Doctor", I called out in pain, finally strong enough to use my voice.
"Leyna!" he shouted, finally remembering what he forgot. He ran towards me and crouched down beside me.
"Leyna!" he shouted again.
"Doctor, I'm right here, no need to shout", I muttered.
"Sorry, new mouth", he said, making me laugh.
I wish he wasn't funny, cause now my ribs hurt. Bad. They feel like they're burning and stinging and it really hurts. I propped myself on my elbows and looked down at my ribs. They were... glowing!
"Doctor what's going on?" I asked him, scared for my life. So this is how he kills me. I looked into his eyes for the first time since he regenerated, and there was a new sadness in his eyes, a new layer of grief. Is that because of me? Does he think that it's all his fault?
"Leyna," he scanned me with his sonic screwdriver, "y-you're dying."
"Doctor, it's okay, just listen to me", I whispered.
"It's all my fault", he muttered.
"No, Doctor, just listen to me", I said.
He was ignoring me and muttering to himself.
"But I love you! And now you're dying, and because of me!" he said to himself.
"Doctor, just listen!" I shouted, but he still ignored me.
"I don't know what to do! The TARDIS is ruined, I can't get her to the medical bay, the hospitals won't know what to do either, and I just, I just..."
"Doctor!" I slapped him.
He snapped his head and looked at me.
"Listen, you have to go out in that house. There's someone that you have to meet in that house, okay? And, you have to forget about me. Leave me here and go meet her, before its too late", I told him, tears spilling.
"Leyna, I can't just leave you. I, I love you", he said.
"Well, Doctor, you have to. I'm sorry, you have to go. It's... a fixed point in time", I told him.
"Right", he kissed my forehead, and held me up from my back seeing my arms shaking. He was gently slipping his hand out from under my back and laying me back on the ground to do what I told him to, when I stopped him.
"Doctor?" I asked him.
He gently placed his hands on my back again as my arms went limp and I was unable to hold myself up.
"Yeah?" he asked.
"I love..." The rest of my body went limp and my vision went black. I couldn't hear anything, or see anything, but I knew what the Doctor was thinking. He was thinking "one day, I'm going to hear her finish that sentence".
After a few minutes of being dead, I felt something strange on my stomach. It was like before, but it wasn't as bad. There was barely any stinging, and a gentle force was applied to it. It was actually tingly instead of stinging, but somehow felt related to before. I was jerked up into a sitting position, coming back to life. Someone, well, whoever brought me back to life, gently brought me back into a lying position so I would be more comfortable. Well, as comfortable as you could be when you just died.
I looked at the man, starting at his shoes, then up to his coat. He had on this black coat that had red satin on the inside of it, kind of like a magician. I looked up at his face and was immediately drawn to his eyebrows. They looked cross, but the smile on his face showed me that his eyebrows were just like that and that the worst he could do with them is open bottle tops. I looked down at his wrist, assuming I would find a watch, but instead, was a vortex manipulator. I looked back up at his head and saw his grey/white hair. I looked at his wrinkly hands to see regeneration energy coming from them and being applied to my stomach. That must be how I'm still alive. And, finally, I looked into his eyes. His sad, old eyes, with the same layer of grief I recently had seen a few minutes ago.
"You", I got the opportunity to finished my sentence. "Doctor, I love you", I repeated the whole sentence.
"I love you too", he replied with a Scottish accent, stroking my cheek. He turned up to walk away, but I knew there was something else I had to tell him, something that would remove this new layer of grief.
With the last few seconds I had to stay alive, I called out to him.
"Doctor?"
"Yes, Leyna?" He looked back at me and I once again was reminded of his grief.
"It wasn't your fault. It never was and it never will be." His layer of grief was made because he thought it was his fault that I had died. For the first time, he smiled at me, but not just with his mouth; with his eyes. He was truly happy. That's all I've ever wanted. For him to be truly happy.
"Thank you."
He stepped aside and pressed the buttons on the manipulator. Disappearing just as my vision went black.
