Chapter 30; The Master's Grounds
Doctor's POV
"Obama? Seriously? Why?" Leyna asked the president that was watching from the screen. Even in the most serious and complicated events, Leyna still knows how to crack a joke while still being sensible and serious. That's Leyna.
So, basically, while I was in the TARDIS thinking about my love life, Leyna was in here, tied to a chair, learning all about the Master's plans. When she's the one usually asking questions, I was dumb founded on what was happening.
"So, what did I miss?" I asked the group. It's probably good to know your enemies plans so that you have time to plan what to do. Though, I usually just jump right into things...
"Well, the Master has a crazy device, like usual, to take over the world. But this time, Obama is involved. And, he's tied us both up, so..." she shrugged, puffing a piece of red-brown hair out from in front of her face. (A/N: if you don't know, I went back and changed her hair colour from strawberry blond to red-brown)
"And", the Master started to add, "You can't do anything about it. And now that the machine is powered up and ready to go, I technically already beat you. Two."
"So, what does this machine do?" I asked him.
"Makes people do whatever I want", he stated proudly. "One", he continued the countdown.
"What is it, hypnotism? Mind control. You're grafting your thoughts inside them, is that it?" I asked him.
"Oh, that's way too easy", he said while using his arms to emphasize. "No, no, no. They're not going to think like me, they're going to become me. And, zero!"
He stood in the middle of the machine, and a blast of energy burst from him, into the machine, and the energy spread throughout the whole world, invisible from all of us, but I knew what was happening.
In the room, everyone's faces blurred except for the Master, Leyna and I.
"You can't have", I said. It was too brilliant, too over thought. Too crazy.
"What is it?" Leyna asked me, her eyebrows furrowing.
She was here the whole time, but not everyone can figure out a plan as devious as this. Even I have a hard time believing it. But we both know the Master, so we both know that anything is possible.
Everyone's faces resolved into the Master's and Leyna looked both shocked and disgusted.
"What is it? What have you done, you-- you monster?" she asked.
"Oh, I'm sorry, are you talking to me?" the Master asked her.
Naismith, who had become the Master just like everyone else, looked at Leyna. "Or to me?"
Everyone turned their heads toward Leyna.
"Or to me?" Abigail asked.
Danes stepped forward, "Or to me?"
The security man who was standing behind me spoke up, "Or to us?"
The TV screen that was set up on the wall about ten feet away from us was turned on by the Master.
The newscaster, or the Master, looked towards the camera, sipped some of his tea, and said, "Breaking news. I'm everyone. And everyone in the world is me!"
Leyna's face showed so much fear, I felt like she wouldn't be able to cope. Somehow, she managed, but her expression didn't change.
Grinning like a mad man, the Master stepped out from the machine. "The human race was always your favourite, Doctor. But now, there is no human race. There is only the Master race. Bwahahahahahaha!"
Leyna and I both sat there stunned, speechless. And I don't know if it was just me, but I felt like I heard the Gallifreyan high council all cheering, "For Gallifrey! For victory! For the end of time itself!"
The funny thing is, as soon as I heard it, Leyna looked at me, mouthing the words, "I'm sorry. I'm so, so sorry."
We both knew what happened next. And as much as I wanted it to be false, I knew that this would be our last adventure.
Leyna's POV
I was forcefully taken from my chair by the Master and led to the Naismith's study. The Doctor was rolled there, being on a trolley and all, so he didn't have to worry.
We were a few feet away from each other, facing each other, while a few TV's were placed on the wall to the right of me and left for the Doctor. Seeing how the Master loved me so much, the Doctor is bound and gagged, so I get to make all the decisions. YAY me!
On the screen was Naismith because he was currently in the Gate room, the room we just came from. Alongside him on the other screens was Obama, a General from U.N.I.T, and the Chinese general.
"Now then, I've got a planet to run", the Master started.
"It's not yours to rule", I spat at him.
"And it's not yours to make that decision", he replied as sharply as I did to him.
"Then who's is it?" I asked him very rudely.
"Well, considering I am Obama, and, frankly, everyone else, I think I have good grounds to say that, Leyna. And you?"
I just shook my head at his comment and looked towards the screen as he did.
"Is everybody ready?" he asked Naismith.
"Six billion, seven hundred and twenty seven million, nine hundred and forty nine thousand three hundred and thirty eight versions of us; awaiting orders."
"This is Washington. As President of the United States, I can transfer all the United Nations protocols to you immediately, putting you in charge of all the Earth's defenses", Obama told him.
Great, I'm in the room with a crazy maniac who can blow the whole world up with a thought.
The general turned his attention towards the Master, "UNIT HQ, Geneva reporting. All under your command, sir."
Next, was the Chinese general that spoke up. "And this is the Central Military Commission here in Beijing, sir, with over two point five million soldiers, sir. Present arms!"
The screen changed from the Chinese General to a whole army that had a bucket load of guns each. Lucky me.
The Master turned his head and walked over to the Doctor. "Enough soldiers and weapons to turn this planet into a warship. Nothing to say, Doctor?" The Doctor started saying something, but was muffled from being gagged. "What's that?", the Master continued mocking, "Pardon? Sorry?"
"Let him go. Haven't you had enough?" I asked him. Always mocking us and trying to destroy the world. Him and the Doctor used to be friends. I can't even believe him.
He turned his head slowly, so that it would be dramatic and suspenseful.
Inches away from my face, he could say anything he wanted. "Hush, now. Listen to your Master", was what he chose to say.
As soon as he turned around, I took out the pocket knife that the Doctor slipped in my emergency suitcase when he gave me my TARDIS key. As I was cutting the rope, the Master walked over to the Doctor and took out the gag.
"That's better. Hello. But really, did you think I'd leave my best friend without a defense mechanism?" he winked at me and stood comfortably in his little trolley.
It would've been amazing, it really would have been, except I wasn't done cutting the rope. So, instead of me attacking the Master from behind and doing something incredibly amazing that would've stopped him, I was caught. Although, it wouldn't of worked even if I was done cutting the rope. Guards would've been in here as soon as he heard me jump from my seat. That's the problem with the Doctor. He's more of a 'do now, think later' kind of guy. And the problem with me, is that I actually listen to him.
So, instead of me being a cool ninja that would get a medal for saving the world, this is what happened. The Master sprung around and took the pocket knife out of my hand while two guards came into the room. Oh, Doctor, if only you'd waited.
"A bit early, Doctor", I said in his direction. I would've said it right to him, if the Master wasn't still blocking my vision. He finally, after waiting an eternity suppressed into 5 seconds, stepped to my right all the while still holding onto my wrist. He got a revolver out of his pocket and put it at my head. Okay, Leyna, time to actually care about what you say to this guy.
"Tell me, where's your TARDIS?" he asked the Doctor.
"You could be so wonderful", the Doctor replied, dodging the Master's question.
"Where is it?" he asked again. I could feel the gun somehow coming closer to my head even though it couldn't be moved any further. I felt like a dent or crater was being molded onto my skull, even though he was just a bit forceful with pressing it to the side of my head.
"You're a genius. You're stone cold brilliant, you are. I swear, you really are. But you could be so much more. You could be beautiful. With a mind like that, we could travel the stars. It would be my honour. Because you don't need to own the universe, just see it. To have the privilege of seeing the whole of time and space. And that's ownership enough", the Doctor complimented the Master/ reasoned/ put some sense into.
"Would it stop, then? The noise in my head?" the Master asked.
I know I shouldn't, but I feel bad for him. He didn't choose to be crazy, he became crazy. It wasn't his fault, it just, kind of, happened. And I know I almost 100% shouldn't be showing pity on him now, especially while he has a gun pointed at my head, but what else could I do? Feel nothing towards him? Because if that happened, then I wouldn't be here afraid of him. If that happened, I would've just thrown the pocket knife at his neck and hoped for the best instead of trying to cut myself free. If that were the case, then I wouldn't realize that this is the Master's grounds. Meaning, that in this moment of time, all eyes were on him, and if they weren't, there would be consequences.
What used to be my beautiful earth filled with unique and inspiring people, has now become something completely different. Something, that if people can actually remember this time, will be feared forever.
"I can help", the Doctor said.
Three words that can change the Master's future. Only question; will they?
