Chapter 10. Should I Stay Or Should I Go
I woke up the next morning contemplating whether I should stay or go. River did say that the Doctor would kill me, but can't I change the future? And even if I couldn't, when would the Doctor kill me? Would it be right away? or would it be after he regenerates?
These questions just kept replaying in my mind when I heard the doorbell ring. That's funny, I don't remember inviting anyone. I opened the door to see Caitlin and she hugged me as soon as she saw me.
"I thought you died!"
I told her to come inside and put some tea on the stove.
"Where have you been all this time?"
"Travelling, but I might take a break."
"But, why? You seemed so happy the last time I skyped you!"
"Yeah, but the man I was travelling with, I don't think it will work out."
"You were travelling with a man?"
The tea whistled meaning that it was ready. Saved by the bell. I went into the kitchen l, turned off the stove, and got 2 peppermint tea bags out of the cupboard. I brought the tea pot and two mugs into the living room, setting then down on the table. While I was doing this, I finally it a good look at Caitlin.
She was wearing a red plad top and black tights, as usual, but she looked older. How long had I been gone?
"Hey, Caitlin, how long have I been travelling?"
"Just a few months, why?"
"What happened in those few months?"
"Ronny died."
She burst into tears and I embraced her shivering body. Other than looking older, she had lost weight. I guess his death was really affecting her.
"Caitlin, I'm so sorry."
My phone rang. I checked the ID and noticed that it was from the Doctor.
"Can I ans--"
"Go ahead", gesturing towards me phone, I excuses myself and pressed 'talk'.
"Doctor, what's wrong?"
"Nothing. I just want to know when you're coming back."
"Doctor, I just left."
"Oh, for me it's been days."
"Doctor, I don't think I'm coming back."
"Why?"
"Doctor it's complicated and I'm sorry, but I can't explain right now. I have company."
"Ummm... okay... I guess."
And I hung up. I felt bad. I really did, but I just need time to think.
"Who was that?" Caitlin looked fine now. All her tears had dried and I'm pretty sure she washed her face.
"The man I was travelling with."
"So? Is everything okay? Did everything work out?"
"Not really. Nothing really does for me."
Caitlin's ringtone went off and she told me that she had to go back to star labs to work. Whatever. I guess I'll just be lonely.
Doctors POV
It's been a few days for me in this village, but I guess time runs differently. I still haven't figured out anything that was wrong, except the people. The people here were odd. They only talked amongst themselves, and whenever I was there, would look at me and freeze. I don't know how I managed to, but somehow I got some information from the locals. Some.
The only information I got was about the town, how it was built, who it was built by, and when it was built. Thats it. So now, I know that it was built with no machines, it was built by someone named Jeffrey the third, and it was built in the year 1989.
For something that was built not long ago, I still don't get why they had no machines. But it was something deeper than how this town was built. What I'm looking for is what this town was built upon. What this planet was built upon.
And I think the only person that knows, is Leyna.
Leyna's POV
I was reading the book Melody Malone for the hundredth time when I looked at something on the floor. Something that River dropped. Her journal.
I didn't even need to open it to realize something so obvious. If I couldn't read past chapter 5 in Melody Malone because if I read something about the future it will come true, then the Doctor has to kill me. River wrote it, and I'm going to read it in a few minutes. I don't want to die, but I think my death is linked somehow to Amy and Rory. And I need to know why.
Just as I was opening the book, I heard the TARDIS materializing. I threw both books into my bag along with a tank top and a pair of shorts.
I ran outside to see the Doctor pacing in front of his TARDIS. Something must be wrong.
"Doctor? Are you okay?"
He nodded saying, "I need your help."
And I followed him into the TARDIS.
///////////////{Later On}////////////////
"Okay, so why do you need my help?"
We were walking down the black path towards the village, we had landed on a strange planet. The Doctor told me that he was summoned by someone here with his psychic paper. We were walking down the path, looking at this strange, new world when I noticed the people. I stopped dead in my tracks.
"Doctor, I think we should go."
"Why?"
"Did you notice something strange about the people?"
"I noticed something strange, but I'm not exactly sure what. What's so strange about them that's making you stop?"
"They're my dead family."
I looked at the Doctor feeling like I was going to puke.
"Leyna, have you seen this town before?"
I studied the town carefully, taking in every little detail. And there were a lot. The houses all looked the same, the diner looked like it was from the 80', and there were shrubs lining the drive ways.
"My dreams."
"And why did you have those dreams? Do you know? More importantly, Leyna, when did you have those dreams?"
"When I first saw you. When I was little."
"What?"
"I dreamed I could travel with you. And I dreamed up this place."
"What's this place built on?"
"Something evil. When I was little, I only had bad dreams. Then my mom told me stories about you, I dreamed up this place, and all my bad dreams went away."
"So all your worst fears are down there", the Doctor stated, matter of factly.
"Yup. And I'm guessing we have to go down there?"
"Yup."
