Chapter 95: The COVID Series

A flight landed in HK from Beijing, delayed by over an hour so it landed past the time for implementing the mandatory quarantine. All passengers are required to self-quarantine. There is no notice of that. The passengers just passed through the airport and got onto public transport to their place of stay.

The news interviewed a few people who passed the border since implementing the quarantine. One man said he and his family (including two young children) just 'fleetingly' went to mainland to visit relatives. It was 'for such a short time' that 'quarantine isn't necessary' (according to him) so he would not be quarantining any of his family or himself.

RTHK News reported that the public health system only has enough face masks for 1 month's use left. Strike or not, when our masks run out, there is literally no way we could go into work.

An email is sent from the Department of Health to the Scout Association of Hong Kong recruiting more volunteers to work at a quarantine centre. Again, for free. No contract, no insurance, and obviously no responsibilities if any of the underaged children end up getting infected or harmed in any way.

For those who can't read Chinese, the duties in the email included:

- Assist in distributing and transferring supplies

- Assist in patrolling

- Assist in organising and participation in reporting duties

- Assist Civil Aid Service in their work

A letter sent to a quarantined person surfaced, advising them that they are 'required to be under medical surveillance for 14 days' but also 'should wear a surgical mask if [they] need to go out'. Nice 'mandatory quarantine'.
