Emma is 20 weeks pregnant with a baby she and her husband very much wanted.

Unfortunately, at her 20 week scan, her baby had a lot of structural abnormalities meaning the baby would not survive the pregnancy.

Emma and her husband elected to abort the baby rather than wait till later.

I administered the multiple doses of Misoprostol that would allow the expulsion to occur, over twelve hours. Every time I saw her, Emma was quiet and tearful. I couldn't imagine what she must be going through. Just seeing her, wrapped up in bed in a side room, tolerating my examination and then my administration of the medication, broke my heart.

I'm glad I live in a place where this could happen safely, legally, and without judgement -- god knows Emma has enough to be getting through already.
