Young Blood (Part 1)
Bill stepped into the TARDIS and his mouth opened, "Woah."
The Doctor beamed proudly and led him over to the console. "Intimidating, I know. Anything you would like to say?"
"Hm," Bill waited a minute, "not as big as I'd hoped..."
The Doctor threw up his hands in exasperation and pulled some levers on the TARDIS.
"There is no pleasing either of you, is there?!"
Ted laughed, and The Doctor's pouting face shifted into a smile.
"Geronimo, then."
With a flip of a switch and a metallic whoosh, the TARDIS jerked to the side as it took off, sending Bill careening into Ted.
In what would have knocked Ted to the floor a few weeks ago, Ted caught Bill and stood him up easily. Bill awkwardly brushed off his pants and messed up his curls.
"Thanks dude," he said quietly, then he looked up.
Sparks flew off of the console of the TARDIS, and the Stallyns jumped back. Only The Doctor stayed at the console until the time machine landed a few seconds later.
The Doctor stepped out first, looking around. The sun was low on the horizon, and the TARDIS had parked itself in an alley near a boardwalk. The Doctor checked around the TARDIS, then waved the boys out after him.
"What's going on, Doctor Dude?" Bill asked, looking around like The Doctor did.
"This is Santa Carla. It's not exactly the most trustworthy place, I just wanted to make sure we were... alone." The Doctor swallowed that word hard, like he felt watched, then he shook it off.
"Let's wander," The Doctor said, "there's a few minutes until sunfall still." The Doctor shut the TARDIS doors and led the way. The three rounded the corner and made their way into some shops.
"Dudes," Bill said, fishing some money out of his jeans, "I'm gonna pick up some popcorn from back there. I'll catch up with you in a second." Ted handed him a few dollars.
"Get me one, too, dude,"
Bill went off down the boardwalk and Ted bought his time by walking into a store. He wasn't planning to buy, so really all he did was touch a lot of the comic books and look for something interesting. The Doctor picked up one of the comics and flipped through it, laughing at whatever it was.
Ted rounded the corner and ended up backing into someone, who dropped what they were carrying.
"Sorry dude, my bad!" Ted said quickly, stooping to grab the fallen books. He picked up one of the comics and looked at the cover for a moment too long before handing it to a guy in a red bandana.
"Vampires? Huh, cool."
"Cool?" The guy said incredulously, "They're not exactly cool when they're killing your family!"
Ted squinted suspiciously, confused by the outburst. He made up for the moment by handing him another book.
Red Bandana put the book in a pile and held up the vampire comic.
"This could save your life, buddy!"
Ted took it cautiously, "Uh... if you say so,"
Ted stood up and offered Red Bandana a hand. He took it and got up.
"You're new here, aren't you?" Red Bandana asked.
"I'm actually just visiting, dude. I'm here to save my friend's future!"
By this time, the two were joined by another person, about the same age.
Red Bandana and the other guy looked at him in confusion, and the other one spoke up.
"What's your name?"
"I am Ted 'Theodore' Logan! Who are you?"
"Alan," said the one.
"And I'm Edgar," Red Bandana replied.
Alan put a hand on Edgar's shoulder.
"So I hear my brother was telling you about the vampires around here. You don't believe him?"
Ted really had to think for a moment. What did he believe? He traveled time in a phone booth, and traveled time and dimensions in another phone booth that was bigger on the inside. Vampires were easy on the spectrum to believe.
"I never... never said they don't exist...,"
"They do," Alan stated firmly. "They do, and they're dangerous. Ever notice all those 'Missing' posters?"
Ted shook his head.
Edgar and Alan nodded at each other and walked him to the front of the shop.
"There. See? All these guys went missing, and you wanna bet who's to blame?"
Ted would guess vampires. That still wasn't proof, but really, did he want to see proof of that?
At this time, The Doctor noticed Ted was gone and hurried up to him.
"Ted-- OH hello!" He waved at the two boys as if he just noticed them, "We need to go now, we need to go before anything happens to Bill. This is his timeline, you know."
"What could happen?" Edgar inquired of The Doctor.
"Oh, well, anything really, but we must get going now. Ah yes, here's for this comic, I find it intriguing."
The Doctor passed Alan a few dollars and quickly hurried out onto the Boardwalk to look for Bill.
Both brothers grabbed Ted by the shoulders before he could leave.
"We meant what we said," explained Alan.
"This really could save your life,"
Edgar reassured. "Cmon, man, take it. You'll need it in these parts." Edgar slid the Vampire comic into Ted's hands. When Ted went for money, Alan stopped him.
"Just go, your thanks will be payment enough if you kill those bloodsuckers."
Ted grinned at them.
"Thanks dudes. I'll catch ya later, vampire hunters!"
Ted ran off after The Doctor, slipping the book into his jacket. He had almost reached The Doctor and Bill to make plans when he passed one of those Missing posters the brothers had told him about.
That face. It can't be. Ted walked closer, and sure enough...
Bill had gone missing when he went to Santa Carla... that's why his timeline was in danger...
