Out of Time
"Great Scott!" somebody wheezed, clutching the door of a large silver car in disbelief, "It's bigger on the inside!"
The Doctor froze where he was, looking in surprise over at a man with wild white hair, who was gaping in shock at the sight of five people being deposited from the confines of a phone booth.
The Doctor furrowed his eyebrows (or what little eyebrows there) and pulled a small pad of blank paper from his pocket and showing it to the man.
"Uh... yes, yes it is, now I'm going to have to ask that you--"
"Is that psychic paper?" The man asked. The Doctor's face paled. When he didn't respond, the man continued. "It's blank. I'm assuming you wouldn't make the mistake of showing me a blank pad, would you?"
Well maybe, The Doctor thought, but that's not the point.
"Sorry... but... who are you?" The Doctor fumbled out.
The man stuck out his hand eagerly, pulling an oversized glove from his fingers.
"Doctor Emmet Brown, and who might you be?"
The Doctor dropped his hand like it was on fire and jumped back several feet, throwing his arms in the air.
"Holy Gallifrey!!" He shouted, running back and forth. "Doctor Emmet Brown? The Doc Brown?"
The Doctor grasped Doc's hands and shook violently, with more enthusiasm than he ever had.
"Everybody! Come out here, there's someone I need you to meet!" He called, then added just to Doc, "It's an honor, Doc, really, it is."
Doc was both surprised and pleased by the stranger's reaction to him, and his companion in the car, a teenage boy about Bill and Ted's age, stepped out to join the commotion.
"Gentlemen, this is Doctor Emmett Brown, inventor of time travel in the human race. In the year 1955, he had the great idea for the Flux Capacitor.
"It didn't make its full debut until several years later, but when it did, the human race exploded, took to the stars... this man right here is the inventor of time travel. We learned about him on Gallifrey. Granted, we had figured out the idea of time travel long before then, but for humans... Wow.
"Now I must ask, may I see the Flux Capacitor in person?"
Doc seemed almost overwhelmed by pride and attention from the group.
"Of course!" He grinned proudly. He pointed out the area on the large silver car, and The Doctor looked giddy.
"And of course, I wouldn't be nearly as successful without Marty--"
"McFly! Yes, oh how could I forget?!" The Doctor practically jumped over the Delorean to get to the unsuspecting boy and shake his hand an inch from dislocation.
Marty was politely confused at all the attention and looked around awkwardly.
As The Doctor spoke with Doc Brown, Marty made his was over to Bill and Ted, who were less likely to freak out at the sight of him.
"I am Bill S. Preston, Esquire and this is my best friend, Ted 'Theodore' Logan," Bill introduced, "Most excellent to meet you, Marty McFly."
Marty smiled a little. "Nice to meet you guys too. Hey, so what was Doc saying about bigger on the inside?"
Bill and Ted nodded at each other and decided to show Marty the TARDIS.m while the two doctors babbled on in awe of each other.
Marty tentatively stepped through the wooden doors of the TARDIS and his jaw dropped a little.
"Wow," he said softly, "it really is bigger on the inside. I gotta show Doc this!"
Ted took the liberty of introducing Marty to the others, including Jack, who greeted him with a bit too friendly of a hug.
Not long after, Doc Brown strolled into the time machine with the bowtied Doctor by his side. Doc didn't react in awe and shock, instead he began to look under the console and gingerly prod things with a long metal instrument.
"Boys," The Doctor explained, "Doc Brown had agreed to give us a little tow through the space-time continuum with his very own Delorean! See, since the TARDIS decided that she wasn't going to take you lot to your destination, we're going to need some assistance in fixing all of these timelines."
Marty was already helping Doc hook up a long cord from the TARDIS interior to the back of the Delorean.
Carefully, The Doctor and Neo hooked up the TARDIS. Neo was able to maneuver the TARDIS easily thanks to The Matrix, which made it simple to tow it on the back of the Delorean.
Marty and Doc got in the Delorean when The Doctor put his hand on the windshield.
"I know this is terribly rude, but do you think I could get a chance to ride in the famous Delorean?" He asked like a giddy five year old.
Marty agreed to graciously resign temporarily his spot in the Delorean to help Bill and Ted in the TARDIS.
"This is awesome, most bodacious!" The Doctor said. Then he grimaced. "I should stop hanging out with those Wyld Stallyns so much..."
Doc laughed. "You think this is exciting? Just wait until we hit 88--"
"Miles per hour!" They finished together. The Doctor squirmed excitedly.
They were off, TARDIS in tow. The phone box zoomed easily down the street.
65 mph, 70....
Bill and Ted were right at the edge of the TARDIS, very close to falling out, but headbanging and air-guitarring with the wind in their hair (or what little hair Ted may have had).
80, 85.... 88 miles per hour. They were off like a bullet from a gun, and The Doctor flipped a switch on a small box he held in his hands. They did it. The Delorean pulled them into the space-time continuum.
In The TARDIS, Jack was handling the controls, steering more than anything and trying to guide her to a gentle stop, and Neo was plugged into the computer as a navigation system of sorts.
They landed with a crack and a whoosh, and The Doctor finally felt that he did something right this whole trip:
Ride in the Delorean.
