As Edgar stepped out of the shadows holding a large wooden stake, he held it up to Ted.
"Are you one of them? Is that why you joined forces with them?"
Suddenly, there was was a familiar whirring noise and Edgar went limp right into Ted's arms. Behind him, Alan collapsed and The Doctor was holding him up, sonic screwdriver in hand.
"What did you do?!" Marko asked, jumping off his motorcycle to run to the unconscious brothers.
"All I did was deter them a bit. They're not dead, just unconscious," The Doctor explained, "They were going to try and kill you, Marko-Bill, and we can't have you dying; not before the right time. It's crucial. Besides, I don't like that they came into the TARDIS without my permission, so take this as punishment."
The Doctor picked up Alan and threw him over his shoulder.
"Dwayne, do you mind carrying Edgar? There's a room I can put them in."
Dwayne slowly rose from the bike as though he didn't like being commanded to do something.
However, he took Edgar from Ted's arms rather roughly and walked that way anyway, his fangs returning to normal teeth. Ted rubbed the back of his head in thought.
Bill wandered over to Ted, noticing that there was something on his mind.
"Dude?" He prompted, but Ted dismissed him.
"So, uh... vampires, huh?" Ted said awkwardly to David. David was silently glaring him down from across the room. Marko touched Ted's shoulder lightly, sliding past him to go talk to Paul and David about this whole situation.
Ted was a bit too overwhelmed and intimidated by the vamps. He dug in his pocket for some candy, working his nail under the wrapper. He wasn't usually a nervous eater, but he figured he'd rather be a nervous eater than start stuttering like he often did under pressure.
The Doctor returned from putting Edgar and Alan away, Dwayne just behind him.
"Are they sleeping still?" Ted asked. Stupid question. If they weren't asleep, The Doctor wouldn't have left them. He could feel Paul's eyes judging him.
"Sleeping soundly, for now. It can vary, though, so I think we should get a move on. When they wake up, we can explain, but there's no time to wait with the future on the line." The Doctor explained.
Marko came over to Ted, the Bill in him having noticed him touching the back of his head.
"Really didn't mean to attack you, dude. I didn't recognize you at all with short hair. It hasn't been this short since, what, fifth grade, when Molly Collins smushed gum in your hair?"
"Dude, don't bring that up!" Ted said with a laugh.
Bill joined him on the other side, "I think what was worse was when she kicked you in the jewels, dude!"
"Hey! It's not my fault!"
"You totally grabbed her butt, dude!"
"I didn't know better, dudes! I didn't think two Bills would be this bogus," Ted teased.
"Soon you'll have a second Ted to defend yourself," The Doctor commented, putting the TARDIS in gear.
"Excellent!" Ted cried, and the three teens broke into an air guitar session.
As the TARDIS landed, the three went to exit, but The Doctor stopped Marko.
"It may be better if we don't overwhelm Future-Ted. It's bad enough to have this bit of a paradox in front of him--the TARDIS already hates it-- but two Bills might throw him off," in a quiet voice, he added, "Besides, I can trust you to make sure the vampires don't wander or break anything."
Marko half-smiled and shrugged, knowing this was true.
Bill, Ted, and The Doctor followed the dinging of the tracker to find Future Ted.
There was a small training arena where a few men were fighting, one with a staff, and he was very good. He was blocking every shot with expert precision. They stood to watch while The Doctor analyzed the situation.
"This is New York City, 1999," The Doctor explained.
"Looks totally different than I thought, dude. Pretty heinous if you ask me." Bill commented.
The Doctor stuck out his tongue for a moment, then made a face.
"Something is very wrong. The air tastes different.
Bill stuck out his tongue too. Then the tracker lit up. A man in all black walked by, followed by a few other in similar, tight suits, and everyone turned to look. It was the group from the arena.
"Is that me?!" Ted whisper-shouted in disbelief. He pointed at the one with the staff, who was most triumphant at fighting... Now or never.
The Doctor quickly and awkwardly moved in and touched Future-Ted on the arm.
"Ted?"
The man turned to look at him.
"No one has called me that in years. Who are you?"
"Not as violent as Marko," Ted thought. He raised a hand and waved nervously.
Older Ted's jaw dropped.
"This can't be possible," he whispered.
"Hey dude," Ted mumbled back. "I don't have lots of time to explain, but you gotta come with me and this Doctor Dude to save the future from a heinous demise."
Future-Ted looked Ted up and down, then his sunglasses-covered gaze shifted to Bill.
"Woah," he stepped forward. "Bill S. Preston, Esquire... my name is Neo."
"Ted?" Bill looked awkwardly from Neo to Ted before shaking his hand. Neo took off his glasses and stared right at Bill. He pulled the young Stallyn into a bone-crushing hug.
"Pardon me if I stare, it's just been so long since I've seen you, my friend."
Ted's eyebrows furrowed.
"You were killed when the world fell apart," Neo said, voice hoarse, almost on the verge of tears. "I was in Oats Military Academy at the time. Had I known, I could've stopped it..."
Ted was baffled. But all he knew was that they had to save the future now. Bill could not be murdered.
A man then walked up to Neo and did a double take at Ted.
"What on Earth?" The man gasped. "Ted Logan?"
"Jim?" It was Jim. Ted's first friend at Oats. Jim pulled young Ted into a hug. He'd gotten much stronger. "So this is what happens if I stay at Oats? I become a triumphant fighter and Bill dies?"
Ted was furious at his father for forcing this in him if this was the outcome.
"It's worse than that," Neo said gravely. "Ever wonder why the obstacle course and hand-to-hand was so easy for you? You're the chosen one, Ted. I mean, we are. They call it The Matrix."
