Chapter 18: The Plan
"Here's the plan," I spread open a map I drew of the inside of the Government HQ. It took a good thirty minutes of complete concentration to retrieve the interior. I had to concentrate for about five minutes per floor, and there are six floors in the building, and then I drew all of them on separate pieces of paper.
"Here is the main entrance," I point to a door on one of the six pieces of paper. "There are six floors, the main entrance is on the third. It's the main floor. There is one storage basement, and below that is basically a factory with slave quarters and machines where the slaves work."
"Wasn't slavery abolished in, like, the nineteenth century?" Lana asks.
"Yes, it was, but the damn government thinks they can do whatever they want," I reply.
"Damn government," Gabe growls sarcastically and smacks the table, making me laugh.
"Anyway, Lana and Ryella, you guys are pretty levelheaded, so I need you guys to, uh, incapacitate the slave masters and evacuate the slaves."
"Easier said than done," Lana mutters. Ryella elbows her.
"We can do it," Ryella curls her hand into a fist. "I just can't believe they would do something like this.
Gabe coughs, trying to hide his utterance of "I can".
"Gabe," Gabe looks up at me. "Shut your face."
"Yes, ma'am."
"Anyway, you will have to type in a password to get onto the lower basement. The password is "blackbird". Gabe will create a distraction while I head up to the broadcasting room on the sixth floor. Caden and Dakota, you guys are gonna watch my back and guard the door while I send out a mandatory viewing alert for my "emergency broadcast". And then we wait for the new Revolution to begin."
"Sounds pretty straightforward," Bastian says. Wow, I've actually never heard that guy speak.
"Yeah, a little too straightforward," Lana scowls at me.
"Calm down, babe," Bastian places a hand on her back.
"It will work, Lana," I scowl back, challenging her. "People tend to listen to a big head on thousands of screens throughout the city."
"Yeah, you've got the big head part right," Gabe mutters. I punch his arm.
"And plus, people will sympathize with a girl who's had personal issues with the presented antagonist."
"English, please," Lana sighs.
"That is English, you stupid little-"
"Ooooookaaaaay," Gabe interrupts. "I think we might be getting off topic."
"I should be mission leader," Lana hisses. "Then maybe no one would be confused."
I gave her a look. "You're the only one who's confused, and it's because I used a big word!"
"Maybe so, but I could do it better."
"Okay, why don't you just calm down and shut up for three seconds of your life?"
"Alright, you might have this crazy mind control gift thing, but I am faster, stronger, smarter, and overall better than you. So I think you should shut up and let me fix all the stupid mistakes you've ever made since coming to the Dissent. Got it, Cassiopeia?" She says my name like it's ridiculous, like she's mocking it.
I smile. "Spell your name backward and then tell me all that crap again."
Gabe makes a sound like a cross between choking, laughing, and coughing and excuses himself.
"Alright," I look around. "Then it's settled we leave in three days. You all better be ready."
I glare at every single member of my team and excuse myself to go to the room I share with Ryella.
