Chapter 13: The Search Party
Gabe's P.O.V
I have gathered a search party. It consists of Lana Marano, Bastian Harding, Ryella and Dakota Cullen, and Caden Pierce. We have boarded a train that is headed to the Capitol. I have told her about the workhouses there, and I haven't a doubt in my mind that that's where she is. That girl is really something. She has the biggest heart out of anyone I have ever met, but when she needs to, she can be tough as nails.
We board the train, probably looking as if we were some kind of angsty teenaged cult in our black combat gear and Lana's many piercings on various parts of her face. The train finally starts moving as everyone except me takes a seat. Lana sits in Bastian's seat with him, as they are dating. He has his arms around her and she is curled up in a ball with her head on his chest. They would be cute if it weren't for the constant alert glare in Bastian's eyes, and the way that Lana gripped Bastian's shirt, as if she were holding on for dear life.
This leaves me having to stand up and hold the metal pole behind Ryella's seat
Every single eye on this level of the train is on us. Ryella and Dakota share an uncomfortable look. It is quite strange, seeing as Dakota usually loves attention. Caden, on the other hand, is fighting off a grin by biting his lip. He eventually has to bite his fist, the silence becomes too hilarious, and soon, I am looking down and biting down on my tongue so hard that my teeth draw blood. Caden takes a deep breath, lets it out, and motions for me to come closer.
I bend down to meet his lips with my ear as he whispers in it coarsely, "I bet that if one of us sneezes, they're gonna think that it's a secret language. They're gonna think it means 'okay, activate the bomb now'."
I draw back, grinning, and hold up my index finger. I take a deep breath in and fake a sneeze into my arm. Sure enough, everyone on the train leans away from me, and one guy even stands up and runs up the stairs to the upper level. Caden and I can't hold it in anymore. We both burst out laughing, followed by the rest of the party. I end up falling on my butt as the rest of the passengers shift uncomfortably in their seats. I will definitely have to tell Cass about this. This seems like something she would laugh at. The thought of her kills my laughter and makes me remember why I am on this train. I have to find her.
