"If I play this game, Ouma," Shuichi sighed, looking at the grinning boy in front of him, "Would you please leave me alone?"

The two boys were in the library as per usual, and Kokichi was annoying him again.

Here at Hope's Peak, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays were free days. Which meant they could do whatever they wanted, and wear whatever they wanted. That's why Shuichi was in the library, trying to study.

Today, Kokichi was wearing a plain white shirt and a black jacket around his waist. With a black earring in his left ear and a streak of black dye in his hair, he seemed to be going for a punkish look that day.

However, the yellow socks didn't seem to match his white shoes.

And Shuichi always wore his usual hat and navy blue hoodie, the same one Kaito gave to him a long time ago. Along with jeans and black shoes, Shuichi always liked to dress simply.

"But of course!" Kokichi looked back at him, clapping his hands. "Well, Saihara-chan! Looks like you want to challenge me."

"Shhhh!" Shuichi shushed him, trying to quieten him down. "You're being too loud. We're in a library after all.."

Kokichi didn't seem to hear him as Shuichi watched him draw four lines on a piece of scrap paper with confidence.

Everything Ouma did was for a purpose. And he did his job without hesitation.

The way he drew the lines with easy sharp strokes, or when he played around with the strands of his hair.

Shuichi always noticed these small things about Ouma that no one else seemed to catch.

The way his eyes shone whenever he said something funny. The way he laughed like whatever he said was the funniest thing in the world.

Shuichi blinked when Kokichi handed him a piece of paper, "Here ya go. Beat me, and then I'll stop bothering you."

When Shuichi first suggested the idea, he wasn't thinking much. He just wanted to wallow in self pity and spend some time by himself. He didn't want to talk to anyone, for fear of falling in love with them.

However, this was Kokichi Ouma, the Ultimate 'Evil' Supreme Leader, and troublemaker. Everyone seemed to dislike him, even when he showed good intentions. And he wasn't trustworthy at all.

There was no way Shuichi was going to fall for such a person. So the chances were low. He sighed, looking at the blank spaces and filling in a 'O' at the center of the space.

The game went on, the two passing the note back and forth.

There wasn't a sound except for the shuffling of paper, the scratch of Shuichi's pen and Kokichi swinging his legs.

Finally, the last box was filled and Kokichi held up the paper, triumphant. "Sorry Saihara-chan. Looks like I won for today. Now you gotta pay the price!"

"W-What?" Shuichi exclaimed, his eyes widening. "You didn't say anything about a forfeit."

"Oh, I didn't? Whoopsies.." Kokichi sang, a finger to his lips, "Hmm.. well, now I mentioned it. Now come on! You owe me something."

"But Kokichi.." Shuichi tried to protest. "That's not fair."

"That's life, Saihara-chan." Kokichi turned, suddenly smirking. "Life isn't fair, so you gotta learn from your mistakes and move on. Understand?"

"..."

Shuichi wasn't sure why those words affected him more than they should have.

Life was.. unfair. Everything was taken away from him. His parents and Kaito. They meant the world to Shuichi..

And that wasn't fair.

Kokichi started to pack his things, holding out a hand for Shuichi to take. "Come on! You owe me something and there's only one thing I really want."

Shuichi raised an eyebrow, slowly packing his things. "Is it grape Panta again?"

He always saw him with the carbonated drink. Each day, he noticed Kokichi walk up to the vending machines to buy a can of the drink.

Not that Shuichi was staring at him of course, he just noticed Kokichi's strange routine. Since that purple hair of his was rather easy to spot in a crowd.

He sighed when Kokichi grinned. Shuichi slowly picked his bag up and left Kokichi's hand outstretched.

There was no way he was going to take his hand, after all. They weren't even friends in the first place.

"There, happy now?" Shuichi held out the drink for Kokichi, who smirked and took the can from him.

The two boys were standing in front of the campus cafeteria, where there were a few students walking around.

"This is splendid. You're a good person, Saihara-chan," Kokichi smirked, as he tossed the can into his backpack, "However, one of the sentences I said was a lie."

He started to lead Shuichi to the side of the school, where there was a chain link fence surrounding the entire premises. Keeping outsiders out.

Shuichi scowled. This was why he hated hanging out around Kokichi. He lied way too often, and was never meant to be taken seriously.

"Awww what's with that frown, Saihara?" Kokichi tilted his head, gazing up at him with a slight smile, "Are you bored? We can play something else if you want."

"Oh, and I forgot to mention," he suddenly turned, raising a finger. "If you keep losing, you have to keep doing whatever I tell you. That's your forfeit."

Shuichi started to protest but Kokichi just shook his head, "Hey! Just look on the bright side, maybe time will go faster and Kaito will come back after this long wait. That is, if that idiot is still alive-."

Shuichi gasped when Kokichi was suddenly lifted in the air, held up with one arm by Maki.

"M-Maki!?" Shuichi stammered as Kokichi blinked, surprised to see the girl.

She glared at him, "Take that back."

Shuichi wasn't sure what was she talking about. He was still having trouble processing what was going on.

Thankfully, there weren't many people around to witness the three of them, since students rarely walked around at the back of the school.

"Maki! Let him go!" Shuichi exclaimed as Kokichi winced when the girl forced him against the wall. "Not until he takes back what he said about Kaito."

"Is that what you're going to do?" Shuichi heard Kokichi mutter, his hands stopped trying to pull at Maki's. "You're going to force me to take back what I said about space boy?"

"Don't. Call him that. He deserved better." Maki glared at him as Kokichi clenched his teeth, obviously losing oxygen.

"The last time I heard, you're the one who argued with him. If you'd just accepted him-." the purple haired boy cut off his sentence when Maki lifted him higher.

Shuichi rushed forward and pushed both of them apart, Maki falling backwards and Kokichi dropping to the ground.

"Shut up!" she tried to grab Kokichi again, who was struggling to breathe, one of his eyes shut tight with pain.

Shuichi held Maki back, "Maki, just calm down. You might've killed him and-."

"Then I'll go to jail? It's probably better than staying here with that demon!" she pointed at Kokichi, who looked at her.

"He better take back what he said about Kaito-."

"I'm sorry. There, I said it, are you happy?" Kokichi interrupted her, pressing his hand against the brick walls and pushing himself up to stand.

"Sorry I called Kaito an idiot." he held a hand against his neck, which looked a little sore.

Shuichi.. never saw this side of Kokichi, the silent, truthful side.

Maki and Shuichi looked at each other, surprised as Kokichi spread his hands. "What else do you want me to do? Go down on my knees and beg you to forgive me?"

"Ouma.." Shuichi started to say when
humour suddenly flashed in Kokichi's eyes, making Shuichi step back a little, "I can't believe you guys fell for that!" Kokichi laughed suddenly, "I'm not sorry for Kaito. I'm not sorry for anything I've ever done!"

"What are you.." Maki started to say when Kokichi suddenly smiled pleasantly, as if his mood changed again. "Okay, looks like I'm done here.. see you next time, you two."

With that, Kokichi turned, leaving Shuichi and Maki dumbstruck.

What in the world.. just happened.?

And worst of all, what was wrong with Ouma.?
