Let's go.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

His big orange hoodie made him feel like melting shit in the extremely hot weather.

The sun was angry and blazing, trying to get as much attention as possible, seeing that rain stole the spotlight for the last three days.

He was regretting his dressing- a big hoodie, with a white top inside on blue baggy jeans, black footwear with a black sunshade to match. To passersbys, he was just a handsome man walking on the streets.

He tried blending in with the crowd looking back every now and then to be sure Charlie is trailing at a safe distance behind, in case someone recognizes and tries to mug him.

He entered the market and as he passed by, the same string of phrases got caught up by his ear, buzzing like tiny black houseflies.

It was always,"Things are so expensive."

"The price has gone up."

"The government is useless."

"The president is inactive."

"It's because of bad roads."

"People are suffering."

It hurts so much to hear that your father fails. A big-time failure on top of that.

If it was said by a person or a few person's, it wouldn't really hurt but when a whole nation is in agreement...

Femi could not take it again and walked out of the market, making Charlie huff in annoyance.

He walked so fast that Charlie had to start jogging to maintain the 30ft distance.

I can't believe that I mocked David when my dad became the president. He's certainly having the last laugh.

Tears were threatening to push his sunglasses away. Sometimes, the urge to cry is stronger than crying itself.

In half the time he used to get to the market, he was back at Asokoro in his Ferrari F8 Tributo - the 2022 model, waiting for Charlie to catch up.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

"Good afternoon, sir." Femi greeted with an exaggerated bow of his head.

"Good afternoon, Femi. What have you been up to?"

Femi dropped onto the sofa lifting up a leg to place on a small stool nearby.

His father frowned disapprovingly but he just shrugged.

"Nothing much. I took a one week leave from Ade Oil."

Mr. Adedeji sits up, shocked.

"You this boy! You didn't even ask permission from me."He said, raising his voice making the soldiers stand up.

"It's nothing." He dismissed the zealous workers.

"When did you become so lazy? Taking a break in the middle of the year. I didn't train you to be like this,"He stopped, catching his breath.

"When I was young—"

"Fuck." Femi muttered under his breath.

"—I worked from morning till night as a petrol attendant, until I became a manager. From there, I worked until I got this f*cking oil company. I still work everyday to retain it. Any thing you want to achieve in this life has to be worked for."

Like you worked to become the president.

He murmured in his mind.

"I'm sorry, sir."

Mr. Adedeji furrowed his brows digging into his son's face with his sharp eyes, searching for deception but all he could see was exasperation.

The fact that his son got tired listening to him made him talk a little more.

"Look at today. Probably you've spent two or three hours loitering around, doing nothing. If you waste five hours everyday for seven days, you have waste thirty five hours of your life in one week. Now, imagine you waste ten hours everyday for seven days you have wasted SEVENTY hours of your life."

Well done, Pythagoras.

"Okay sir."

Mr. Adedeji relaxed leaning his back as far as it could go and Femi felt enlivening oxygen rushing straight into his pink lungs.

"Sir, I came here to see you."

Mr. Adedeji seemed interested, by the way his back came forward.

"What is it?"

"Sir, people are complaining that your government is not like...doing so well for the country and they're really angry with your administration." Femi explained.

"So?"

Femi gasped, momentarily incapacitated by the bluntness of his father's nonchalant response.

"Another thing you need to learn is to stop pleasing men. Don't be a man pleaser. You will end up being frustrated,"Mr. Adedeji sternly spoke,"Do you think I became the president to make 100 million Nigerians become rich? I came here to get more power, more wealth and connections. If you don't know, you know."

"Oh, okay. I think I should get back to work." Femi said, standing up immediately.

"Okay. See you later." Mr. Adedeji said but Femi was already out of the door.

I need to apologize to David for my childish stupidity.

On the way he bumped into Mr. Ikenna who was obviously going to visit his dad.

Disgusting people.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

"Ikubor has been arrested." Mohammed said.

"What do you mean? For what?" Short asked.

Mohammed shot him a killer glare. He was still angry with the three of them for killing Bose but they had the right to do so.

James passed his phone to Short, causing Tiny and Daniel to rush around him, stretching their tattooed necks to read the information.

"Ikubor Enadeghe, the adopted son of Mr. Enadeghe tortures and murders his father in cold blood." They read aloud.

Mohammed snatched his phone back and Tiny turned the TV on.

It wasn't an expensive TV - just a simple one. Who would put an expensive TV in a safe house?

While the TV was booting, Daniel began,"Welcome to the Weekly Meeting of The Inner Circle where we discuss and handle important and urgent issues concerning us."

Everybody clapped, but not without one form of mockery of the other.

Short changed the channel to NTA and it was unsurprising that Ikubor's matter was being discussed.

"Do you think he'll give us out?" Short asked while dusting the TV.

"Ikubor ain't a coward. If it was Bose, I'll certainly be afraid." Daniel remarked.

Mohammed tensed up at that statement but relaxed intentionally making his face and appearance unreadable.

Short increased the volume to 60%

"According to reports, Ikubor Enadeghe is presently undergoing interrogation in an undisclosed police station. We have reason to believe that he is the major suspect behind the kidnap and murder of his unfortunate father." Reporter 1 said.

Reporter 2 began,"We really have to appreciate the role technology is playing in solving crimes. In this case for instance, the victim had a tracker attached to him which updates his location to his security personnel. It happens that the tracker led the missing Late Mr. Enadeghe to this decent house in a decent neighborhood. They got a warrant to search the house and they did so. While, combing the entire house, they found torture instruments and some belongings. " The reporter explained on the evening Matters Arising Show with too much demonstration.

"The tracker led them to a shallow grave in the backyard where they found his remains. They found out that the house belongs to Mr. Ikubor Enadeghe and the police comes in, and realize that the prints all over the house and on the torture instruments are his. Presently, he is still a suspect and we don't know for sure if he truly committed this egregious deed."

Short muted the TV, the same time Efe unlocked the door.

"Good afternoon, guys." Efe greeted.

"Ikubor has been arrested in relation to his dad's death, Efe." Daniel announced with a vapid-looking face.

When Efe heard the news, his glowing face became arid.

"Fuck." He said, pulling out a chair from under the table and sitting on it.

"Are we safe?"

"For now, yes." Mohammed replied.

"Assuming we killed Mr. Hamzat and others the same way, we'd all be on death row." Tiny noted.

"Yeah." James agreed.

"Now, you see how useful I—" Short was interrupted.

"Why didn't you guys tell me earlier?" Efe asked with an annoyed look on his face, tapping the table repeatedly.

Everybody looked at him with confused looks on their faces.

"We're just seeing you now. Is there any problem?" Daniel asked.

"I just killed David's mother." Efe said in a low voice.

Silence

Silence

Silence more than what a graveyard can provide.

Then, PHCN deemed it fit at that moment to cut the power supply leaving them in absolute darkness, all lost in their own thoughts."

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Phew.

I didn't think I was going to get that chapter out but here it is.

Q1. Do you think David will forgive Femi?

Q2. Do you think The Inner Circle will strike again?

Please vote and share your thoughts. They mean so much to me.
Bye✌️✌️
