SCI FI

sfreader7

As a long time fan of the sort of humor found in books like the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series and the Discworld books, I'm always searching for more stories that don't take themselves too seriously and are just fun to read. If it makes me laugh, or even just puts a smile on my face, then the author has done well.

Not finding enough books that would scratch that itch, I decided to start writing the story that was threatening to do me harm if it wasn't let out.

The Ill-mannered Door is that story. It's a completed novel that I will be releasing at a rate of a chapter per day here on Wattpad, and I hope you enjoy reading it as much I enjoyed writing it.

In addition to being an avid reader and writer, I have also done editing and proofreading professionally.

I would be interested in swapping read for read, provided that what you have written meets the following criteria:

- Targeted at mature readers
- Original (not fan fiction)
- Clean (No erotica or frequent foul language, sorry)
- Science fiction (especially space opera, military or humorous sci-fi) or fantasy

Highest rank #1 in Sc Fi. AHHHH still can't believe it!

Here's bit about me...

I went to drama school (The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama) in London, but now prefer to act out characters from behind my laptop!

I write for The Stage newspaper and also create resources and plays for drama teachers. My non fiction book '100 Acting Exercises for 8 - 18 Year Olds' is being published by Bloomsbury and will be released worldwide in the spring of 2019.

I am dyslexic! My novel has been proof read by someone else, but please excuse mistakes in my online comments!

Writer of speculative fiction, a little pure science fiction, sometimes fantasy.
Like readers more than anything else, so usually happy to give free e books on request.
As for the rest. My ego is spread thickly enough across the net- you really don't need to read it here as well.
Have a good day.

Hello and welcome to my corner of Wattpad. I appreciate you taking the time to check this out and I promise you won't be disappointed.

A little about me: I absolutely love writing and reading, but have been doing more of the former since I was in high school. I'm possibly addicted to adrenaline, thus the massive amounts of rock climbing and, recently, surfing I've been doing. Also, I never shy away from a good home-cooked meal.

I hope you enjoy my works and if you have any questions for me, please feel free to ask.

I write science fiction and fantasy and everything else in between. I've had short stories in Orson Scott Card's InterGalactic Medicine Show, Escape Pod, The Doomsday Chronicles, and Clockwork Phoenix 5.

I design book covers for my day job, I love learning new languages, and I play a bevy of stringed instruments (the rarer the better!). I love epics and all things strange and beautiful, and my favorite books include the Seafort Saga by David Feintuch and the Vorkosigan Saga by Lois McMaster Bujold. And I can't forget Dune!

I'm non-binary gender and use they/them/their pronouns.

Zur Zeit am Komaschreiben (ist wie Komatrinken, aber alkoholfrei)

in English: I am presently binge-writing (this is like binge-drinking, but without the alcohol)

What I love: My wife, our kids, good reads, cheese & chocolate (not together, though), Cloud Atlas (the movie more than the book), Senza Parole (the wine, and also the mode of conversation), a place with a view.

Was ich nicht mag: Knatsch, Koriander, Käsefüsse.

Und an all jene, die es mit der Orthographie genau nehmen: Meine deutschen Texte sind in schweizerischer Rechtschreibung verfasst, ein ß sucht man darin also vergebens.

I love to read others' work and to give feedback, and I enjoy hearing what others think about mine. This kind of interaction is part of what makes this place so unique. So if you are interested in mutual commenting, do send me a pm.

I am also running a unique review book with theemmpress, Wattpeer Reviews. We review whole books there if these books hold the promise of true excellence. We are usually closed for new entries, working on the old ones, but I'll announce it on my profile when a new application window opens.

My name is Gregory Carrico, and I'm a writer.

Welcome Gregory

"Thanks, y'all. I've been hooked on words for as long as I can remember. It started with the light stuff; Tolkien, Lewis, you know how it is. After my first hit of Heinlein, I knew I couldn't stop.

Before I knew it, I was into King and Koontz. Things got pretty dark. There were Elfstones, Shrikes, heroic lepers... I couldn't get enough.

One day, I peered over the top of a cardboard screen from my seat at the head of the kitchen table. I needed more words, but I had to have some control over what they said. I hit a new low. I had turned to role-playing games for my fix.

A gang of bloodshot, greasy-haired social pariahs were calling me Dungeon Master. Their Cheetos-stained fingers aimed accusations of murder at me over pyramids of Mountain Dew cans. They were dead. I had killed them all! They had to know the Alien King was a plot device! How could they have missed the clues? Idiots!! All my hard work, Wasted!

I knew, then, I had hit rock bottom. But thanks to you, my readers, I turned my life around! I don't write for those guys anymore. Now, I write for you.

My name is Gregory Carrico, and I'm a writer.

KaryEnglish

Kary English is a Hugo and John W. Campbell nominee whose fiction has appeared in Galaxy's Edge, Daily Science Fiction, the Grantville Gazette and Writers of the Future, Vol. 31 .

Kary grew up in the snowy Midwest where she avoided siblings and frostbite by reading book after book in a warm corner behind a recliner chair. She blames her one and only high school detention on Douglas Adams, whose Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy made her laugh out loud while reading it behind her geometry textbook.

Today, Kary still spends most of her time with her head in the clouds and her nose in a book. To the great relief of her parents, she seems to be making a living at it. Her fiction includes several short stories, a planetary fantasy series available in 2015, and a fantasy saga about a little girl and an orange kitten. A student of New York Times bestsellers David Farland and Tracy Hickman, Kary aspires to make her own work detention-worthy.

I grew up on StarTrek-reruns and Tolkien, reading everything from Adams to Zelazny - as long as it's SciFi or Fantasy. Once I dreamed of becoming a writer, but dreams are dreams and life wasn't meant to be easy.
I am and always will be an addicted SciFi/Fantasy reader, a Trekkie and a few other things as well ... and sometimes I dabble in writing.

Wattpad achievements :)
Watts 2015: "Onish"
SciFi challenge 16: "Ironman" (winner)
Adventure Community: "Myth" ( micro adventure, winner)
"Eggs and Elevators" (bad romance, 3rd)

elizagreenbooks

Eliza Green tried her hand at fashion designing, massage, painting, and even ghost hunting, before finding her love of writing. She often wonders if her desire to change the ending of a particular glittery vampire story steered her in that direction (it did). After earning her degree in marketing, Eliza went on to work in everything but marketing, but swears she uses it in everyday life, or so she tells her bank manager.

Born and raised in Dublin, Ireland, she lives there with her sci-fi loving, evil genius boyfriend. When not working on her next amazing science fiction adventure, you can find her reading, indulging in new food at an amazing restaurant or simply singing along to something with a half decent beat.

Astronomicon

Hi.
I'm a lifelong fan of science fiction, but enjoy comedy, thrillers, mystery and other stuff, if the writing is good. My own works rarely fit neatly into a single genre as I like to keep my scifi human. That means there's going to be some drama, comedy, action, mystery & even a little romance in there.

Please feel free to comment on my chapters as you read them. I love the feedback and always try to respond. I can't tell you how many improvements to my books have been led by reader feedback. Listening to my readers is the best way to improve.

My main works are the Astronomicon series of science fiction novels (Search for either my name or Astronomicon on Amazon). The series charts the progress of the human race from first interstellar exploration, through political upheavals, subterfuge, first contact, interstellar wars and even the reason for our existence.

johncurzonauthor

Welcome to the Johncurzonauthor home page. Though you find yourself here you can at least console yourself with the thought that having sunk this low, you can't fall any further.

I'm one of those awkward people Wattpad would rather not have around... You know; the sort who writes intelligent fiction rather than teenage fandoms and includes 'mature' themes in their work which must be kept hidden from the children at all costs...

When it comes to personal questions, the quote from The Prisoner (the proper 1967 original rather than the risible 2009 remake) sums my attitude up nicely. "Questions are a burden upon others; answers a prison for oneself."

If you choose to follow me then don't expect too much in return. It's not that I'm antisocial; or don't want to follow you, read your books, or critique your writing, but my severely impaired vision will only allow me to do so much: That, and I'm trying to get some writing done; which isn't easy as you may imagine. I hope you understand; too bad if you don't. However I will follow people whose works or profile interest me.

Having been abandoned by the education system as 'remedial' due to my disability I mostly taught myself to read and write, as well as self-educating in other fields. Unfortunately this background sometimes shows in my work. I strive to do my best but, as happens to everyone, I often fall short. I post completed works rather than regular installments as I am a slow writer, and you probably spend enough of your time waiting around already.

If you choose to read my stories I hope you find the experience worthwhile. Thank you for your interest, and to those who see it through to the end, thanks for bringing my characters to life; they don't do anything, but just rest inanimate until you read them.

TechielnAK

I've been reading books since I was a teenager, spending hours upon hours on everything from Stephen King, Tom Clancy, Ken Follett, Robert Ludlum to Orson Scott Card, Isaac Asimov, Greg Bear, Dan Brown and so on. My favorite genres tend to be science fiction and adventure/thriller type books. Historical fiction, such as Pillars of the Earth, is also very fascinating. .

Outside of reading science fiction anytime I can, I love science in general and specifically in those areas that tie into science fiction in any way. I'm also an avid reader of history. My own writing tends to lean towards science fiction. I have participated in several Nanowrimo's (2007 and 2015 winner) and also the 3-Day Novel Writing Contest. My purpose here on Wattpad is to get some of my writing out to the public for feedback, so I can figure out what's good and what's not.

I also love to draw, primarily pencil and colored pencil. I've also been doing web design for many years and I love programming as well. Throughout the years I have dabbled in everything from basic on the C64 to Assembly and AMOS on the Amiga to PASCAL and more recently, VBA, Javascript, PHP and HTML5.

The common thread: anything that lets my creativity be brought to life I tend to be attracted to, whatever it may be.

I blog about tech, fiction and my own personal interests

I enjoy a variety of genres and like to write weird stuff. At the moment, writing mostly Science Fiction.
Black Dutch.
Somebody's mom, but not *your* mom.
Incurably goofy.
My writing heroes are too numerous to list here but veer all over the place from Dostoevsky to Melissa Scott.

"It's not because you don't do concerts that you can't play the piano."
Alexis Jenni, 48-year-old high school biology teacher and surprise winner of France's top literary prize in 2011.

What to say about me? I guess I would say that I do enjoy all forms of storytelling. In particular, I am interested in technology, dreams, and the fuzzy edges where science overlaps with the unknown mysteries of the universe. I'm not a fan of being put in boxes (who is?) but if I have to pick one genre I would pick magic realism. Though my brand of magic realism would be heavily sci-fi oriented and darkly comic.

My biggest inspirations are Charlie Kaufman, Douglas Adams, Robert Heinlein, Raul Ruiz, Jorge Luis Borges, Jean Giraud, Stephen Chow, the 4th Doctor, and many more that I'm forgetting.

That said, I can not define myself as "a writer." I have multiple occupations and obligations that keep me busy all the time - running advanced analytics for a high tech materials science company, advising and investing in start-ups, teaching my kids about how to get the most out of life (while trying to also learn for myself), and forcing myself to make time for art somewhere in the middle.

I just found WattPad (Jan 2018) and so far am impressed by what I've seen here. I guess I'll give it a shot. I've got multiple partially completed manuscripts that I would love to finish. Perhaps working on them here in a public setting and giving myself a weekly content publication deadline will make it possible to actually bring something to a close for once.

RayDillinger

My name is Ray Dillinger. I'm a researcher in Artificial Intelligence, but that's not why I'm here.

Writing is a hobby for me but I'd like for it to be more than that, so I'm always looking for ways to improve. I encourage people to comment on my stories anytime they see a way I could have made it better than it is.

I'm most interested in speculative fiction. I dislike mixing genres because of the temptation to use magical elements merely as a way to avoid thinking too hard. Good writing requires hard thinking whether it requires hard science or not, but I find that sticking to hard science constrains me in a way that makes me think of better solutions than the magical deus ex machina.

My current book, Jessica Seventeen, takes place in a richly developed science fiction storyverse that has a lot more stories in it. I am probably a science fiction author more than any other genre because it is specifically those stories that I look forward to telling.

That said, I have experimented with other genres. I have a completed book posted that's a sort of modern fantasy/horror novel that has some psychic characters in it. There are more stories in its storyverse too, but I don't find myself interested in writing them down.

Writers who inspire me include Niel Gaiman, Lois McMaster Bujold, David Weber, Stephen King, Stephen Donaldson, Terry Pratchett, Barry Hughart, and Paolo Bacigalupi.
