{56} Signs and messages

T H I R D   P E R S O N

He was dreaming the same dream again for the fourth time this week. He dreamt of the same bus stop and the same message from an unknown number. He dreamt of the same man and his evil sneer, the mock gun that held a clear threat, the wicked glint in his eyes that promised him pure torture…

Logan woke up to find himself drenched in sweat and strangled by the sheets. His breathing was short and erratic as he was so close to hyperventilating. Before he could think about what he was doing, his legs took him to the front of Ayo's door and he opened it. The dark boy opened his eyes at once when he felt his bed dipping beside him.

“Logan?!” Ayo questioned voice husky from sleep, as he sat up and switched on his lamp. It did not take being a genius to know that something was wrong with the blue and green eyed boy. “Nightmare?” He asked. His only reply was a nod. “That Maru found you again?” Once again he received a nod.

Logan laid himself on Ayo's bed and faced away from his brother’s gaze. Ayo sighed and lied down beside him turning so that their backs were facing each other. There was silence for about half an hour until Logan spoke up. “You awake?”

Ayo took a minute before responding with a ‘yeah.’

“I don’t know man, I feel like this is a sign.” Logan said.

“Maybe you need to start therapy again. You’ve been having the same over and over, perhaps you are traumatized.” Ayo suggested but clearly that was not what Logan wanted to hear because he sat up angrily.

“Oh now you’re saying that something is wrong with my head?” Logan snarled.

Ayo sighed and sat up. “No I am not. I am saying that whatever is happening to you is eating you out which is dangerous for your mental health.” Ayo refuted.

“I am sane, Ayo, I am. I just…feel like he is watching me, watching us and will strike soon.” Logan argued.

“You are just being paranoiac, maybe your anxiety disorder hasn’t fully left yet.” Ayo regretted saying what he just said but the deed was done already. Logan's disorders were a touchy subject for him. “Logan I-”

“I’m going to bed.” Logan interrupted and snagged the blanket for himself, using it to cover his head so that Ayo would say no more. The latter sighed and lied back down. He stayed awake for a few moments before closing his eyes to a dreamless sleep.

“Sunny.” Scarlet greeted as she opened the door for her boyfriend. A frown soon crossed her face as the boy walked past her without his usual ‘hello Rebrum.’ “Something is wrong.” She stated knowingly as she locked the door.

“I’m fine.” Logan lied through his teeth but of course Scarlet saw right through it. At her glare, Logan sighed and gave in. “I fought with Ayo okay? I’m staying here for the night, I don’t want to deal with him today.”

Scarlet nodded and made a mental note to call Ayo later as Logan didn’t look like he would dive into details anytime soon.  Logan ended up staying over for a week which was not fun because the boy had been acting strange. Sure he was the cute and loving boyfriend he usually was, but he had been…tense.

Scarlet woke up to the doorbell ringing. She sat up and rubbed her eyes noticing that Logan was not beside her. At that, she frowned. He lulled her to sleep last night and was supposed to be at her side but he was not. The doorbell kept ringing obnoxiously so she reached out for her phone. “Alex, gate camera.”

Her AI which operated her house responded by showing the footage of the person standing outside, it was Asa. “Open the gate.” She commanded and stood up from her bed. That was when her AI informed her that she had a new message from Logan. Frowning, she clicked on the message icon and opened the text.

“Scarlet?!” Asa called as she walked into the large bedroom. She found her young mistress standing frozen in the middle of the room with her phone in a hand. Her free hand tapped rapidly against her leg and that made Asa race over. “Scarlet what’s wrong?!” she asked in concern and took a glance at the phone in Scarlet's hand.

The girl didn’t even realize when Asa snatched the phone from her to read the message.

From Sunny:

Scarlet, I want you to read this thoroughly and carefully. I am sorry but this relationship cannot LAST. No matter how hard I try to make it work, it just can’t.
It began when you opened up to me about your father
I thought I was love struck
Alas my feelings were just egged on by Ayo
I felt pity and not love. I’m sorry I let this happen
I just can’t take this anymore, I hope you understand.

“That jerk!” Asa seethed as her fist tightened around the phone. She dropped Scarlet's phone and went downstairs to retrieve her phone. Scarlet heaved heavily as her body jerking movements increased. She sat on her bed before she fell and picked her phone to read the message over and over again.

She knew it; he finally got tired of her. Why did he play her? He said he loved her! “GAH!” She screamed and raised her phone, ready to toss the device across the room when a familiar ringtone stopped her. She lowered her phone and followed the tone to her table.

“He is not picking!” Asa stormed inside the room half expecting to meet a storm but she saw Scarlet holding up a phone instead, the phone was not hers. “Mirror.” Asa called her AI. “Call Logan.” The phone in Scarlet's hand started ringing. The dark woman frowned as she cut the call. Why was Logan's phone here?

“Alex call Ayo.” Scarlet spoke and the device obeyed.

“Yo loveweb!” Ayo's voice rang from the other line.

“Have you seen Logan?” Scarlet asked with a deep frown.

“No, the last time I saw him was last week or so when he left for your place.” Ayo said and Scarlet cut the call before he could ask if anything was wrong. Scarlet went back to the message app and viewed Logan's message over and over again.

“Scarlet what’s wrong?” Asa asked but it was lost to Scarlet's voice demanding for the footage of the gate from her AI.

“Alex, give me the footage of the gate from 10pm.” She demanded. Soon enough the video started playing but Scarlet found nothing, no sign of Logan leaving the house. She was about to give up when she saw Logan's figure walking outside the gate.

“He left at 2:45am.” Asa noted but Scarlet shook her head. Something did not add up. She went to the guest room and saw Logan's wallet under the table and that was when she became suspicious. Ayo had not seen him since last week and he left his wallet behind, which meant that he didn’t leave the town. She called Ayo to ask if Logan left a text or anything but he did not.

“What’s going on?” Asa asked confusedly but Scarlet was engrossed in the message text that Logan sent her. Scarlet noticed something in the text that she didn’t notice before and soon, everything began to fall in place. She picked up her phone and dialed Ayo. The boy picked up immediately.

“Get your ass over here now.”

***

Cliffhanger. What did Scarlet discover? Who can make a wild guess? I’m sorry if that the chapter is shorter than normal, I had to end the chapter here. You will find out what happened to Logan in the next chapter although I’m pretty sure it’s obvious what.
