{40} Staring at the red haired devil

L O G A N

"AAAAAHHH! YOU SICK PERVERT!!"

My eyes flew open and I sat up. Why are people set to interrupt my sleep these days?! I rubbed my eyes and walked to the kitchen where the scream came from. I met Don at the stair way, guess he was also awoken by the scream, and we both went to the kitchen.

We both stopped when we saw Crystal dragging a millstone across the floor to the other end of the kitchen island. My blood ran cold when I saw a leg sticking out from beside the table... Is that- is that Ayo?! There was a thud and Ayo stood up from behind the table in a flash.

"WHAT THE HELL CRAZY WOMAN?!" He yelled but Crystal was having none of it. She ran and took a set of kitchen knives, and that was when Don and I rushed to action. I held Crystal by her waist and Doug held her hands. Ayo, who had ducked behind the island for safety, poked his head out and scowled at Crystal.

"What the hell happened?!" Don asked as he collected the knives from the fuming girl while I removed the millstone. Why the hell is a millstone in a modern kitchen?!

"I touched her ass." Was Ayo's reply.

I almost dropped the stone on my leg.

"It was an accident!" Ayo yelled and ducked behind the counter again when Crystal picked up a knife. Don managed to collect the knife and carry her to the living room while the others came down as they just heard the commotion downstairs. "I swear I didn't see her coming!" Ayo explained. "I just happened to bump into her and next thing I know, my hand was on her ass. I tried to explain but no! The crazy she devil was intent on smash my head into a bloody pulp!" He yelled the last part for her to hear.

"I heard you Ayo Adams! I swear I'll remove your body parts and freeze them, then I'll sell them to the butchers and personally use your testicles for my meatballs on my spaghetti!" She yelled back as she struggled to free herself from the girls' hold.

I never knew Crystal could be so vulgar.

"You hear that?! Before you kill me, I'll kill you first!" Ayo retorted.

"Let me at him! Let me at him! Listen pretty boy-" Crystal started and Ayo also stood up in preparation for a mortal combat when Scarlet came downstairs from her attic.

"You are too loud." She stated as she went to the fridge to take a drink of her lemon and strawberry mix. Seems like yesterday when Jordan drank that sacred juice. When I was living with her, I drank out of that drink...a sip, really, I was just curious! Don't tell her I did that.

-

Time flew and next thing I knew, it was Monday. I am a morning person but Mondays are not just my day of the week. After dressing up, I went downstairs for breakfast.

"Morning, Mrs Jennifer." I greeted as she set a plate of bean cakes in front of me.

"You can just call me mum, you know." She smiled and set another plate, Ayo's plate, next to me. "Vanilla or banana?" She asked.

"Vanilla please." At my request, she set a mug of vanilla custard and milk in front of me and I thanked her before eating.

"Where is Ayo?" She asked.

"Morning." Ayo sauntered into the dining room fully dressed but looking sleepy as hell. I wonder what he was doing up at night. "Bean cakes." He mumbled. "Banana custard please." He requested and Mrs Jennifer set his mug beside him. The stuff was overflowing with milk but that was how Ayo liked his stuff. Coffee, chocolate, cocoa drink, custard, name it, it had to have milk.

After breakfast in which Mr Matthew had come down late because he was free for the day and slept in. Ayo and I got into Ite and drove to school. When we arrived, a familiar red and grey motorcycle pulled into the parking lot and parked beside us. Why on earth is a motorcycle occupying a car space? It's Scarlet's. Said girl has been coming to school rather early these days.

"Oh man, I totally forgot that Snowflake is my seatmate!" Ayo groaned beside me and I followed his gaze to see Crystal talking with Phyllis and April. I chuckled at his plight, Crystal was troublesome compared to Shelia.

We alighted from the car the same time Scarlet took off her helmet and got off her bike. I froze, despite myself, when I got a proper look of her clothing style today. Instead of her trade mark combat pants that stopped at her shins, she wore skinny jeans slitted on the knees on sneakers. Her green shirt was loose yet it fitted her and showed more body frame than her usual oversized shirts did and complimented her eyes greatly. Her hair, it was longer and I noticed she had a side bang/fringe that covered her left eyebrow. She was totally...different.

I felt my face warm up when her gaze met mine. She caught me staring! Why was I staring?! Abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz.

A Y O

"Abcdefghijklmonpqrstuvwxyz."

I watched as Logan suddenly turned on his heels and started speed walking to the school. I corked my head in confusion and looked at Scarlet, who just shrugged and went away. It didn't take long for me to put two and two together.

I ran after Logan and found him clumsily picking out books from his locker. I snuck up behind him and whispered in his ear. "You were staring again."

"GAH!" He jumped and turned around to give me a salty glare which wasn't so impressive because of the red on his cheeks. "I wasn't staring at Scarlet." He hissed and I smirked.

"I didn't mention any name."

"Go away." Yup, he was totally staring.

"I never imagined it to be Scarlet that would catch your eye." I teased.

"Ass."

"You guys do not realise how homo you look right now." Sharon's deadpan voice sounded from beside us.

True to her words, our position was a bit compromising and we were attracting stares and murmurs. My hands were placed on either sides Logan's head, trapping him in between them. Although my intentions were innocent, others could easily misunderstand. I moved back and Logan closed his locker.

"Woke up on the wrong side of bed, Sharon?" I asked the grumpy girl.

"Yeah. I had to wake up at the ungodly hour of six because somebody decided that I always come late to school. I mean, I am better than Scarlet but no...my so called boyfriend had to pick me up when I was dreaming that I was living with BTS!" Sharon slammed her locker shut and stormed off to class, purposely ignoring Jordan's calls and pleas.

What is with girls and BTS?

"Don't ask or you would start the anime versus k-pop world war." Logan said from beside me. I guess I spoke out loud.

Crystal and I glared at each other before huffing and looking separate ways, sitting. The warning bells rang and the last of us ran into the class and tutor Fast began the lecture.

-

"You guys must not miss my concert this fall, you mustn't!" Bryan yelled.

"Technically, it is Vermilion's concert and you are a guest." Don retorted smugly while biting into his crème bun.

"Jerk! You ruined my mojo!" Bryan huffed and crossed his arms. Right now, it was recess and the clique had gathered as usual at the table that belonged to us. April was with Galen so she was absent. Bryan could only give two free tickets to his concert so he gave one to his best friend, Don and the other to Phyllis.

"Course we'd come! What are friends for, right?" Phyllis cheered and the most of us nodded in agreement.

"I would not make it." Scarlet announced.

"What? Why?" Bryan whined.

"I've been forced to a family meeting." Was her reply.

I noticed the way Logan stared not so subtly at her from the corner of his eyes. He stared at people a lot as a bad habit but this was unnerving and a little bit funny. I never imagined he would get over Shelia's death so soon and with Scarlet for that matter. This would be even more fun if the girls noticed this and did their match making magic like they did Sharon and Jordan. Speak of the couple, Jordan apologized to Sharon by using his free period to buy her a banquet of roses...which she ate. Yes, she ate them. And they say I'm weird!

"Next year would be cumbered with a load of work, tests and exams." Jordan suddenly ruined the atmosphere with educational talk. His timing was bad but his words were correct.

"Yeah, and we would part ways and go to universities." Phyllis sighed beside him.

"Grown up responsibilities too." Logan added, grimacing at the fact that adulthood was coming so fast.

"That's why we have to enjoy our time together you know? They say twenty children cannot play together for two hundred years but that doesn't mean we can't enjoy the time we have." Don encouraged.

"He's right. Guys, let's work and play with the same seriousness!" Crystal pipped with flames of enthusiasm in her eyes.

"Yes, let's." I agreed. I would miss my friends when we leave highschool, that's a fact.

"So...I'm planning a beach party for my eighteenth birthday." Phyllis started a conversation.

"Wow, when is that?" Crystal asked.

"July 13."

"That's next year." Crystal pointed out and Phyllis nodded. "I am born on November 19." She announced.

"Chilly baby." I chimed and she cast me a cold glare.

"Ignoring Ayo, when are you guys born?" Crystal threw the question.

"July 12." Sharon yawned.

"You and Phyllis are twins!" The white haired girl beside me cheered.

"Shelia was July 14. We practically followed each other." Phyllis smiled at the coincidence. "We used to celebrate our birthdays together."

"That's cool. Jordan?"

"September 6."

"Sharon older than you!" Crystal exclaimed, much to Jor's irritation.

"Go figure." He mumbled sarcastically.

"I'm older than you ladies, I'm April 10." Don proudly announced and I scoffed. Yeah right.

"It's still the same year." Phyllis retorted sourly.

"Yeah but when I am eighteen, you'd still be seventeen!" Don blew a raspberry oh so maturely on Phyllis's face and she gave him a deserving thwack across his cheek. "Ow! What the hell?" He whined.

"You deserved it." Bryan slurped his orange juice. That guy is one of the few people I know that could pull off colour orange, another person being principal Mayorkun. "Although I hate to admit it, I was born on May 27 and this dork is older."

"Scarlet?"

"March 1." Was the girl's curt reply. She doesn't talk much around anybody but she is a great listener.

"March?! Wow, you're older than all of us!" Scarlet grunted at Crystal's remark. "So what about you guys?" She faced me and Logan so I decided to answer first.

"January 19."

I turned to Logan whose expression mirrored mine. We had said that date together. "How did you know my birthday? I never told you that." I asked.

"That is my birthday." Logan stated.

"Omg, my favorite coincidence is happening right before my eyes. You two are twins!" Crystal squealed. I do not understand the reason for her paroxysm and enthusiasm, I mean it's a normal thing to find another person sharing the same birthday as you, isn't it? It only makes it better when the person is your best buddy for life.

"Woah." Logan smiled at me and I flashed him a toothy grin in return but I did not miss the pair of emerald eyes that were fixed on Logan's face.

So she is staring too.

I smirked at the thought. They would make an interesting couple
