Three (Damien)
My attention gets pulled away from the TV as my phone begins to buzz. It's father calling, and I sigh, anticipating another lecture about messing something up.
I pick up and say, "What now?"
Father responds, "Oh, my endearing son, so good to hear your voice. You know Nathan, the guy who screwed us all over, pulled us through a portal and all. Well, we're taking action, and we had the perfect chance to begin his downfall and capture his son the other night. His son's name is Theo. Theo claims to be completely unaware of everything his father did, but you know how these people lie. I need you to get over to the location I sent you and enter his mind. Also, because he might be dangerous to us all, see, he is a tri-breed lab rat, the first ever. He is part angel, part demon, and part human."
I reply, "For fuck's sake, Dad. I'm on my way, but next time, maybe kidnap our real target. Nathan will retaliate if he finds out it was us, and the demons may turn on us."
"Knew I could count on your support see you in 30."
As I ended the call. My father's chaotic nature and habit for reckless actions had always been a source of concern, but now, faced with the reality of the potential consequences.
If my father's actions had indeed upset the demons by meddling with their suppliers, it could be a complete disaster for us.
I couldn't shake the fear that my father's relentless pursuit of his own agenda would ultimately lead to our downfall. His willingness to resort to kidnapping and other deeds to achieve his goals only served to solidify my sense of dread.
I grab my keys, some candles, and other items that will help create an environment for entering this kid's mind. However, a nagging thought in the back of my mind bothers me - the fact that I would be endangering a random person's life by entering their mind space. It can be particularly dangerous for weaker individuals. I push past it and make my way to an old water plant. My dad had this basic signature move, very movie villain-like. He refused to change, while I have evolved over the years. All of his ways could not change, even if he wanted to.
I arrived at the water plant after aimlessly driving for half an hour. Stepping out of my car, I made my way towards the entrance. My father had purchased many local properties, often businesses, giving him free rein to do as he pleased as long as the law turned a blind eye. He always had a target for his hatred and schemes, constantly plotting his return to hell. Unlike him, I found solace in being here and decided to make the most of the situation, since this event has never happened before. I was born in hell and that's all I knew for thousands of years, until now so why would I wanna go back to a place we already know were the days blend together in such a boring haze.
As I opened the door, I sensed a power unlike anything I had ever felt before. I knew that any unfortunate soul who dared to challenge my father would result in the head of said person being throne decor as he called it. Walking down the hall, the metallic scent of blood filled my nostrils, a reminder of one of the dark gifts my father had given me. I possessed the ability to create bloodthirsty creatures, neither dead nor alive-vampires is what they were named. However, I had long stopped creating them; they proved too uncontrollable to maintain any semblance of order. Yet I was still cursed with this so called gift even though I did not use it.
I walked into the room where Theo was held captive by chains. He appeared incapable of escape, yet perhaps he possessed the power to break free but chose not to. The contradiction of sensing such power in him while observing his apparent powerlessness puzzled me. Despite the bruises and scratches his beauty, his jawline and skin gave such a captivating allure that drew both sympathy and attraction from me. However, his fearful gaze unsettled me; he looked as though he feared harm from me. While I cannot say my father won't harm him, I refuse to get my hands dirty for my fathers choices. At times I'm still at my fathers grip I did show up here but what pulled me here fate perhaps.
I turn to see my father observing me he says. "Hey son do you mind getting to it we have to move with a little more urgency than this"
I pull out my candles and some headphones white noise helps me to stay in his mind and not be distracted or pull out of it from outside sounds or things I sit down in front of Theo.
Nervously, with his voice shaky, Theo asks, "Will it hurt?"
"Honestly, I'm not sure. It depends on how clear your mind is. It's all up to you, okay," I said unconsciously. I touch his hand while saying this and quickly pull my hand away.
I put headphones on Theo, press play, and light the candle. As I look straight into his eyes, my eyes glow red. Suddenly, his eyes glow blue, which doesn't normally happen. My head begins to hurt, like a vein bursting. I close my eyes and stop. To not give my dad any warning signs, I keep quiet in hopes to not alarm my Dad. I lightly touch his leg and begin again. This time, I'm able to enter his mind. Something is different with him and with us this time. We both are roaming in his mind, mostly in thoughts in other people or entities, but we are in an actual room meaning a deeper mind connection maybe to deep. I see Theo and approach him. To ensure we don't get lost, I stand by his side, just watching this memory unfold.
His child self runs to the couch and covers his head with a blanket. His dad comes downstairs, while his mom, whom I have never seen before in the media unlike Theo and his dad. His mom and dad begin to fight. His dad throws something, then the mom grabs her purse and leaves. I can just feel she never came back.
We switch memories, and it's just him and his dad now. His dad has him hooked up to some lab stuff and tells him, "Don't worry, we are just making sure you become a healthy young lad." I look over at Theo as he watches this memory, and his eyes fill with tears.
Theo looks over at me as this memory ends and says, "I can't believe I didn't know all the signs were there."
"It's not your fault, but look, we are in real danger. Our mind connection is too deep. We could get lost in here and not wake up. So, we have to find a way out. Focus on maybe a happy memory this time, okay," I said.
Theo nods. Now we are in a hallway at his school, with prom posters everywhere. As we walk down the hall, Theo asks, "What about when we get out? How do I escape, or do I escape your father?"
"Let me worry about my dad, okay? You are a lot more powerful than you know. He can't be allowed to find that out, okay?"
We make it to the end of the hall, and once we open the doors, we find ourselves in a room. It's a bedroom, painted red, and Theo and a girl are hanging out, laughing and talking.
We push through to another memory; this one is dark, walking down a street. A car drives straight towards us, and then someone kidnaps Theo in the memory. Theo in the mind space vanishes; he must have woken up. I slowly start to see a bright light, waking up in the water plant. We made it out. Thank God, I thought.
