Eleven (Damien)
"Hey, up now! Hit the showers; a prison transport will be here in 30 minutes to pick you up, so come with me now!" One of the guards demanded.
The way all the guards acted around me was very telling; they feared me. They would shoot me with one misstep. Whenever approaching me, they held their pistols close. Whenever passing my cell, they would suddenly become more alert. The fear I had instilled in so many was shocking to me. Any reputation I had was my father's doing; I never wanted any of this. The guard opened my cell and stood behind me, giving me occasional directions as we made our way to the showers. He stopped by the exit of the showers and pointed the way for me to go in.
As I entered the showers, all the men were crowded together, mere inches apart, creating a deeply humiliating atmosphere. I tried not to look as I felt the weight of their stares bearing down on me. They began whispering amongst themselves, undoubtedly discussing me. I made my way to an empty spot and undressed, attempting to cover myself as I showered.
"Damien Morningstar, how the mighty homo has fallen," remarked some random guy in the showers, earning laughter from the other inmates.
I chose to ignore his remarks, knowing he could never understand the connection between me and Theo. I sensed Theo's pain, his longing for us to be together.
"I'm talking to you!" the guy said, walking over and pushing me.
I grabbed him by the throat, lifting him up effortlessly as he struggled weakly. With a forceful motion, I threw him back to where he had been standing. They all cowered and quickly began getting dressed. The entire chatter in the shower ceased, and no one dared to speak. I finished my shower swiftly, donned the jumpsuit, and made my way out to the guard who was still waiting for me.
"Alright, let's go," the guard said.
I followed the guard to the main gate where a reinforced van was waiting with the back open. The van resembled the ones used around the city to transport money or valuables, undoubtedly bulletproof.
The men waiting at the van said, "We are switching you to another collar. You are surrounded, so don't try anything. We need a new collar to be sure your battery doesn't die on us."
"I'll behave, just do it," I replied.
They swiftly switched out the collar and shoved me into the van. Despite the guards and collar with me in the back of the van, I knew I could take the whole van down with one punch on the wall. But that would mean being on the run again. I needed to deal with this situation head-on. I explained to my lawyer the situation with Theo, but he didn't seem to care. He said it wouldn't work for my case; he claimed it wouldn't be believable to the jury or something like that.
Finally, we arrived at a gloomy, towering building with old architecture. Its mere presence conveyed severity, casting an ominous impression on anyone approaching. Back in the war days, entities were hanged here, their executions stretching for weeks, sometimes months. I could sense the lingering rage in the air, the energy of those who craved the destruction of this place. However, amidst this heavy atmosphere, I noticed a familiar feeling in the air-it was Theo. He was close by; he had to be here. Tears welled up in my eyes as I felt his presence, though I also sensed his anger. I knew he would fight for me, but I didn't want him to be harmed or taken down with me.
All the guards held my arms or stood close in a circle around me, escorting me straight to the entrance. I noticed some protestors and news outlets filming. The protestors feared another war with hell and heaven, and they weren't entirely wrong. My father had spoken casually about instigating another war in the past, simply for his own amusement.
The security escorted me through a metal detector, and then we headed for one of the courtrooms. The halls were adorned with what they called American History. They displayed photos from the hangings and soldiers from back then, proudly showcasing what should have been shameful. This was something they always did, regardless of the time.
The reality was that the world had made a deal with the devil, and that's why they thought they had won. But they hadn't; they had merely empowered my father. Heaven could have emerged victorious, but the mortals had been in a very dark place back then. They were heartless sinners as a collective, and they supplied my father with what he needed: people on his side, for the first time ever. That is the reality of how my father won. I think the people had given up on heaven, and the angels and gods had given up on the people. The war's victors were decided before the war even began, it seems.
We finally made our way into the courtroom. It seemed that everyone else had already arrived, and I was the last person to enter. Silence fell as I walked to the stand and turned around to see Theo sitting in the gallery seating behind me. He was next to the girl I had seen in his memories, and they were both fixated on a folder, looking through papers and whispering to each other. Theo had something planned, no doubt.
"Case number 411 is being tried for the following charges: kidnapping, suspicion of war crimes and acts of war, and violation of the accords," the judge announced. "Plaintiff, you may now have the floor."
"Thank you, Your Honor. I'll start with what we know: Damien Morningstar kidnapped Theo Crest in an attempt to gather information to use against Nathan Crest. Here is the footage that many of you have already seen in the news," the plaintiff stated.
They played the camera footage of me grabbing Theo's hand and running from the building.
"We now pass the floor to our witness, Lucifer Morningstar."
"Hello, everyone. I witnessed Damien kidnap a boy. When I discovered where the boy was, I tried to stop Damien, and he threw me and Lilith across the room," said Lucifer.
"Objection! I am Theo Crest, the one who you claim was kidnapped. However, I was not."
"Bailiff stop him now."
Theo's eyes began to glow red. "Sit down and listen to me now," he commanded. They all obeyed, and the judge nodded to the bailiff that he was okay to continue. "Lucifer Morningstar kidnapped me," Theo revealed. "The reason was because my father created the portals that sent them here. My father used demon and angel blood to never age, and he eventually created me by injecting me with angel and demon blood while I was in the womb. I have the files here with proof, if my eyes aren't enough to convince you. Damien rescued me and led me to safety. He didn't break the accords because I am part demon. So tell me, what crimes did he commit? Because none of the crimes listed were true."
I began to smile. Theo could appear so quiet and fragile at times, but I liked it when he had his claws out. He was confident when he did. The look of pure confusion on everyone's faces swept over the room, unsure of what to do next.
"I need a minute to look over the new evidence. Everyone, take 30, except Lucifer and Damien, who are to be held in the cell until we resume," the judge stated.
Theo handed the judge a file, and I watched as I was taken out of the courtroom into a small cell in a back employee entrance. My father was placed in the cell next to me, wearing an ability suppress collar.
"Oh, Damien, how mistaken I was. I thought you were over having lovers. Did what happened with Tomino teach you nothing?" Lucifer said.
"I love how you underestimate Theo. It will serve in his favor one day. He will kill you with such ease. You are a sad old man, broken and jealous. If you can't love, then no one can, am I right? You will never know love again, and that's why I bother you so much, because I am a better and evolved version of you," I replied.
I watched as Lucifer leaned on the bars that connected our cells. I looked around to see if any guards were nearby. Swiftly, I reached out, grabbing my father's shirt and slamming his head into the bars. He began to laugh as he wiped the blood from his nose. He thought he was immortal, but I wanted to remind him so badly that he had been thus far, but could be killed just like any other entity.
As I sat in the center of the cell floor, I began to think about Theo revealing himself. He may be in danger; he was the first of his kind and the only one. They might not like that he could jeopardize the accords simply by existing. They could decide to imprison him or worse.
After a long time of anxious waiting for my sentence, a guard came in and took only me out, leaving my father in the cell. They must be siding with Theo now that he revealed everything. I made my way to the stand and waited as the judge took a seat.
"Based on the new information I and the jury have come to the following decisions: Damien is innocent and will be released today. Lucifer will be held in custody until his own court hearing, to be set at a later date. A warrant for Nathan Crest has been issued for his scientific crimes. Theo will be allowed to make his choice: he will be able to choose what entity group he is to be classified as. Theo will have until the end of the week to email me his choice. That will be all," the judge declared.
The bailiff uncuffed me, and Theo sprinted for me. Before I knew it, Theo was hugging me. I missed his smell and holding him close. He felt like home, and I wanted nothing more than to spend the rest of the day with him.
"Can we go somewhere and watch movies, and I can hold your hand?" I said.
"Yes, of course we can, Damien. We can go to my house. If you don't mind watching my dad being hauled off to prison, then we have the house all to ourselves," he said with the biggest smile on his face.
I grabbed Theo's hand, and quickly a girl ran up. "So, are we leaving now?"
"Oh, right. Um, Damien, this is Olivia," Theo said.
"Nice to meet you, Olivia. Will you be joining us at Theo's place for a movie?" I asked.
"No, thanks. I don't third wheel. Theo, I see why you picked him? He's so..." Olivia began, fanning herself with her hand.
I chuckled holding Damien's hand proudly as we headed out of the building. Olivia got in front, and as we left the courtroom, we were surrounded by crowds of people with signs saying "stop the accords." They looked enraged; the crowd consisted of all kinds of entities, and law enforcement was having a hard time keeping them from stepping on us. Eventually, they escorted us to a car-an old beat-up SUV. Olivia drove us, and we reached a massive mansion that was not what I was expecting at all. I had no idea Theo lived like this. I knew his dad was well-off, but this was crazy how much he profited off crime.
"Alright, have fun, lovers. See ya," Olivia said as we got out of her car and made our way to the gate.
"I fired all the guards. We can just go in," Theo said.
"This place is..." I began.
"Overwhelming, yeah. I still can't believe I live here sometimes," Theo interrupted.
"I told the court where my Dad is, so they should have someone here already."
We climbed up these grand stairs that led to a giant front door. This place was like a castle, with a classic look reminiscent of Victorian neighborhoods. As we opened the door, our eyes captured Theo's dad, and we stepped to the side so they could leave the building.
"Karma is a bitch, isn't it!" Theo shouted to his dad.
This place was even more incredible on the inside-marble floors, chandeliers. Theo grabbed my hand and led me around quite a few hallways until we made it to this one door. It had movie posters next to it, and when we stepped inside, it was an entire theater with a giant screen.
We ended up watching a movie and cuddling. Theo put on a movie called "Firebird," a gay film. Theo cried at the ending, and I held him close until he stopped. Running my fingers through his hair.
"Well, that fucking sucked," Theo said, laughing with his face still wet from tears.
After a while of holding Theo he fell asleep in my arms. He looked so beautiful I missed how he made me feel so vulnerable. The warmth of him laying in my arms and his smell made me feel so at peace and like everything was gunna be okay.
