TWO

Hana woke up without warning, her eyes flung wide searching the dark room. A slither of moonlight peeked through her curtains, and the shadow of tree branches covered her bedroom floor. Her heart was racing and her breaths were more like pants. Hana's mouth dry and as she surveyed her room, she realised that she was not alone.

Someone or something was in her house.

Without a second though, Hana leapt from her bed and ran to grab her bat. If it was a human, even better because it would knock them down but if it was not, then Hana would have to fight for her life. She had lived 3 years without an attack and she wasn't going down easily.

Or should she just hide in her room?

No. Hana shook her head. Whatever was in her house needed to go. Her bare feet padded along her carpet and she opened her door hoping it wouldn't cry out. Her heart was in her throat and she pushed away her fear, she slowly walked along the hallway as quietly as she could. Whoever was downstairs, was making a mess.

Slowly, but carefully she made her way downstairs. By now, her heart was racing so fast she wasn't sure it was beating. Hana pressed her back to the wall, trying to breathe quietly and she geared herself up ready to attack. She wasn't going to ask questions first. That never worked unless you were in a movie. But this was real life. Burglars or demons wouldn't let you have a chance, so why should they?

Hana gripped the bat tightly, ran into the room and swung at whoever was in her living room. The impact of the hit sent painful shock waves up her arm and whoever she hit, cursed loudly and landed with a thud.

"Who are you!" Hana yelled "Get out my house!"

"Excuse me?" The voice said, "Weren't you the one who summoned me?"

Hana finally looked down at the man, sitting on her living room carpet. His crimson red hair rested on top of his angular, well-structured face and his blood red eyes, almost matching his hair. His red lips were shaped almost perfectly, his pale skin making the colour more prominent. Hana watched as he got to his feet, using his thumb to wipe the small amount of blood from his lips. His white shirt was almost skin tight, the top buttons undone exposing his collar bones and smooth skin. His black tie loose around his neck and his black trousers hugged his legs. Hana found herself swallowing as she took in this beautiful stranger before her.

Did she really summon this beautiful man? And if she did, he didn't look like a spirit...oh yeah. She used black candles. This was no spirit. This was one thing she didn't want to summon.

A demon.

"Why did you summon me?" The man said, walking towards her. Hana stumbled on her feet and fell, making the demon squat in front of her "Did you summon me?"

His voice became harsher and she was too scared to answer him.

"No one has summoned me for a very long time, human" He growled "If you are not going to talk, then I am going to take your soul and leave"

"Wait!" Hana cried "I didn't mean to summon you! I was trying to get a spirit"

"A spirit?" The demon laughed "You used the wrong incantation for a spirit. I think humans have become more stupid"

"Who are you?" Hana asked, moving further away from him, but he just walked after her "Stay away from me demon"

"You summon me and you don't even know who I am?" The demon shook his head and then laughed, making the windows shake slightly "Why don't we have a few guess? Hmm? If you guess right, then I won't take your soul and I will help you with whatever you needed in the first place"

"You're a demon" Hana said, "But I don't want you here"

"I won't leave that easily" The demon shrugged but smiled widely "Human, 2 more guesses"

Hana panicked and jumped to her feet, hitting the demon again. This time, he didn't budge and she cried out in pain, dropping the bat. She cradled her throbbing arm and backed away from him. His eyes were burning as he watched her.

"A lower class demon"

"Lower class?" He shouted, and laughed "You are making me mad, human. How dare you call me a lower class demon"

If he was mad, why was he laughing? Hana stepped further away. This demon was making her blood run cold. He wasn't like the other demons she used to run into. He was different. More powerful. Scarier.

Hana looked up at his face again and he grinned at her "Shall I give you a clue, human?"

"Get out" Hana said, trying not to show her fear "You aren't welcome in my house"

"That works on lower class demons" He said, "I own those demons"

Hana gasped and her back hit the wall "The devil"

"Correct!" He smiled widely, making Hana shake. Two pointy red horns appeared on the top of his head and his skin rippled and revealed complex tribal tattoos over the side of his face, neck and chest. She was sure that his body was covered in more. They looked like aztec designs...but he was probably born with them.

Hana turned and ran, not caring where she went. She grabbed the front door, yanked it open and ran outside. However, when she reached the edge of her garden she stopped. Her whole body was shaking, knowing that if she stepped off the garden, she would die. But what was worse? Being attacked by demons or being left with the devil himself?

She didn't want to risk being left alone with the devil. She'd rather die with her soul. A few tears feel from her eyes, and she ran out into the road. The storm had gone, but the rain was still heavy and felt like pins against her skin. As she ran, she could hear the roars from the demons and she didn't stop. It was painful, and she kept looking to see if the rain had split her skin.

"Just because you can run fast, doesn't mean you can escape me" A voice whispered in her ear.
