One
Taehyung stopped in front of the gigantic gate of the University of Seoul and smiled to himself. He adjusted his eye glass and nodded his head, determination flooding his heart.
"Here i come college! Here I come! I can do this. I can do this!!!" He yelled repeatedly and so loudly that several heads turned to glare at him with slight looks of annoyance.
Taehyung lowered his eyes and ignored them. He didn't care. Nothing and no one could dampen his enthusiasm. Absolutely no one but that was until he heard a light whisper beside him.
"What are the odds Tae Tae, what are the odds?"
All of a sudden, goose bumps spread out at either sides of his arms as he heard that familiar voice. His heart beat faster with dread.
"Please let it not be him! Let it not be him" he cried sorrowfully in his heart turning his face away.
"Yah Kim Taehyung, aren't you happy to see your friend?" The voice sounded again and Taehyung was hundred percent certain it was him.
Not this shit again He thought to himself.
This guy can't come here and ruin my life.
So he started walking away briskly without once looking at the owner of the voice.
He hadn't taken two steps when he felt a tight grip on his wrist. He swore under his breath as he was pulled back and spun around directly facing his oppressor. A devilish smirk appeared on the face of the other.
"Kim Taehyung, my dear friend, where do you think you are rushing off to?"
The voice was calm and light but definitely not fitting to the look of its owner. Park Jimin. Staring into the somewhat cold eyes of the other man, Taehyung couldn't believe his bad luck. For the past year, he had always tried to avoid one person and one person alone. That is, the one standing right in front of him now.
Park Jimin was born two months earlier than him. Their families where very close especially after Jimin and his family moved into the neighborhood when he was six years old. At first, they didn't really get along due to their different personalities. Though they disliked each other's company, there was nothing they could do since their parents kept forcing them to be together.
But as they grew older, Taehyung finally started to accept the fact that he couldn't completely rid Jimin from his life. He was a part of it whether he liked it or not thus he gave their friendship a chance and surprisingly, they started to get along but everything changed after that incident. An incident which totally changed Taehyung's perspection of the world and forced him to take life more seriously.
As time passed and due to the unfortunate incident, Taehyung became more focused, determined make his parents proud and live a successful, danger free life. As a result of this mentality, his relationship with Jimin suffered. They slowly grew apart without them knowing. However, no matter how much books he read or how hard the studied everyday, he could never beat Jimin.
Jimin was actually a genius and it surprised everyone. He was always maintaining the top position in class with little or no effort. While Taehyung was busy studying, Jimin was perfectly fine hanging around with his people who understood him better than Taehyung otherwise known as deliquents. His days mostly consisted of chasing after girls and generally fooling around. Still, despite his philandering ways, just one look at a mathematical problem and Jimin could solve it immediately and without any hassle. This made Taehyung resent him a little but there was nothing he could do against a genius so he swallowed in his resentment.
When they were in high school, Jimin changed not for the better but for the worse. At the age of sixteen, he had lost his virginity and became a professional bisexual flirt. He changed both boys and girls partners just as easily as how he changed his clothes. No one could really blame those people for falling for him though. Jimin had grown to become really handsome. Though not as tall as Taehyung but he had an average height, beautiful lips and a very attractive body he took great care to mantain.
While at sixteen, Taehyung had only had one kiss and that was by his child hood crush Jiyeon. It was an unexpected kiss that took place on a sunny day. It was beautiful and ever since that day, it aroused a sweet feeling in his heart for her. He had been pining over her trying to figure out a way to get her to go out with him but he never had the courage. But it seemed luck was on his side after discovering they had both gotten admission into the same university. Now, he could focus on making his dreams come true with Jiyeon by his side.
But now, here this 'devil' was to make things difficult for him. He didn't hate Jimin. Not at all. He was his friend after all but the only problem was he was dangerous and being around him was going to put not just his life but his dreams and aspirations in jeopardy. The reason why Jimin was so dangerous was due to the life he lived.
Back then, they were almost graduating. It was during that time he stumbled upon the discovery that Jimin had ties with a drug cartel. A literal drug cartel and that discovery had almost cost him his life.
At that time, Jimin had suddenly bought a new car and was flaunting around the neighborhood. Taehyung had no idea how he was able to afford a new car. He was only a high school student and as far as he knew, his family weren't rich and his parents had two other children to cater for. However, no matter how much he asked, Jimin wouldn't say.
That particular day, Jimin invited him to go on a ride with him in his car. He wanted to treat him personally and take him shopping. Taehyung wasn't a materialistic person. Shopping didn't interest him but seeing how persistent Jimin was, he reluctantly accepted.
Jimin spent a lot on him that day. Taehyung was astounded. He wondered how he was able to afford to treat him this way. He took them to an expensive restaurant flaunting himself everywhere but the excitement was cut off as Jimin suddenly siezed his hands looking extremely panicked.
"What is it?" Taehyung asked sensing Jimin's anxiety.
"Nothing.... let's go quietly. Don't make any noise"
Taehyung was confused but he did as Jimin said. They quietly left the restaurant and as they got to the car, they heard voices shouting loudly behind him. Fear spread all over Taehyung's body. He turned around and shockingly enough, saw a group of police officers hurriedly heading towards their direction. His eyes widened.
"Jiminah....Cops! Cops! They are after us" He muttered.
"Get in!" Jimin yelled as they reached the car but Taehyung was frozen in place until Jimin appeared at his side and forced him inside the car. He entered as well and sped off.
Taehyung was hyperventilating.
"Jimin, what did you do? Why are the police after us?" Taehyung demanded loudly.
Jimin didn't answer, concentrating solely on the road ahead looking agitated but Taehyung wasn't having it.
"Jimin! Answer me!" He shouted harder.
"I messed up okay! I messed up!" Jimin finally yelled out.
"What did you do?"
Jimin took a deep breath. "We needed money. Appa had so much debt piling up. We were owing the bank. They were going to take our house.... everything. I couldn't just sit back and let it happen so I asked help from a friend. He introduced me to some people. All I had to do was sell some drugs..."
"Drugs!" Taehyung shouted.
"I had no choice Tae! You don't know the situation my family was in. They couldn't tell anyone not even your parents because we where ashamed. I had to do something about it"
"Did your parents know you were selling drugs"
"I don't think so. They didn't ask any questions!"
Taehyung was irritated. "That's terrible but how come the police are after you?"
"I don't know.... something must have gone wrong somewhere..."
Suddenly, a shot rang out in the air. The car tire started to slip.
"They shot the tire!" Jimin yelled.
Taehyung's eyes widened when he saw they where heading straight into a tree with the car becoming unstable.
"Tae.... hold on!" Jimin screamed.
That was the last thing he heard when the car collided straight into the tree and he totally went blank. When he opened his eyes, he was in a hospital. His parents where beside him looking so worried. When they saw that he had regained consciousness, they looked very relieved and happy. Apparently, he had been unconscious for two days. When he asked about Jimin, his parents looked displeased. They told him Jimin was arrested and there was a possibility he would be spending at least five months in juvenile since he hadn't yet turned eighteen. His sentence was lessened because he had cooperated with the police and snitched on the other drug suspects.
"Taehyung, I know Jimin is your friend but you have to keep a distance from him. See what he did to you. It's obvious he isn't a good influence... You know the responsibilities you have towards your family. Don't forget that" They said seriously.
Taehyung couldn't argue with that because he knew they where right. He had responsibilities towards his family. Remaining friends with Jimin was only going to drag him along a thorny path so he did as they said. He stayed away from him.
While the latter was imprisoned, Taehyung didn't visit him once and when he got released, he also didn't visit him. Just like that, the strain between their families became evident. Even if Taehyung had wanted to see him, Jimin had made himself so scarce to everyone. No one knew what he was up to these days especially since returning from jail.
Soon, he wrote his entrance exam into the same university his crush Jiyeon had applied for. After passing the preliminary exams, he went for the interview. Two weeks ago, they gave him the admission and he was esctatic. It was time for a new life but now, all that seemed to be wiped away upon seeing the person in front of him who was staring coldly into his eyes.
