Chapter 50 - The Devil was the best Ruler

"I am right beside you, Darling."

"Callahan!" I shouted his name with both in excitement and relief.

"I hope I'm not late," he said as his hollowed eyes met Almorach's and his grip tightened around the devil's strong wrist. His trident seemingly getting ready to pierce the enemy before him.

Almorach noticed his enemy's weapon as well. So, he yanked away his hand and stepped back, his eyes blazing with fury.

"I want to tell you something." I said as he nodded thoughtfully, his eyes not leaving the furious devil before him.

"No! I need to tell you two things, actually." I corrected it.

"Oh!" He thought for a moment and settled himself before me, as if to shield me from Almorach and said, "First, let me settle with him otherwise he would interrupt us."

"Devionth, we meet again." Almorach said with his hard voice which didn't failed to show his distaste.

"Long time, old friend." Callahan gave him one of the tight-lipped smiles he usually gives but with a wicked intent behind them. "Although, can't really tell if I missed you."

Almorach's jaw clenched but he smiled. The rage and betrayed look didn't leave his face. "How are your duties of being a ruler going on?"

"Great. I mean better than you." Callahan shrugged.

Almorach's fists tightened at his sides as his hollowed eyes darkened. "Of course, it is. But it won't be good anymore."

"Ho? How so?"

"Because you are going to get killed here, my friend." Almorach grinned as he vanished before our eyes and suddenly appeared before Callahan with a fist that gave Callahan a strong blow.

I screamed. Blood flew from Callahan's mouth but he hadn't flinched from his place as he looked back at him with an even more wicked grin. "You have become weak, Almorach."

He said as soon as they both disappeared from the sight and appeared far to the ground where Callahan gave him a punch on his gut. Almorach's back curved as Callahan spinned and gave him another blow on his shoulder. A crack resonated as Almorach fell to the ground.

Callahan could have finished him but he didn't. He stayed there looking down at his enemy as Almorach coughed blood and laughed.

"What happened, Devionth? You know you can kill me now..." He provoked as he coughed again.

"I don't kill an enemy who is as weak as you." Callahan said.

"You are going to regret missing this chance." Almorach said and I flinched at it. There was something unsettling about him that alarmed me. He was alone and maybe he was strong but he wouldn't be that stronger than Callahan, right?

"I don't regret anything."

Almorach laughed as he gained his balance. "You are as confident as ever, Devionth. You never failed to amuse me."

Callahan was only watching his movements because he was aware that Almorach didn't come here to get beaten up to a pulp.

"You do know that no matter how powerful you become, you wouldn't defeat me." Almorach said, "You just tricked me that time, but not anymore."

Almorach spread his hands as his claws grew up and Callahan's grips on his trident tightened. Suddenly, the ground beneath us shook and I felt someone had caught me. Caught me by my heart.

A scream erupted from my mouth as I fell on my knees and held my chest with tightly closed fists. Callahan's eyes fell on me as they widened and he was about to come reach me when he fell on his knees as well.

The sands around us spread away as a large pentagon appeared on the soil and in the middle of it, Callahan stayed on his knees. He supported himself with his palms and the trident but it looked like all of his powers were being sucked out by that pentagon.

Almorach laughed hysterically as one of his hands twitched and I felt as if my heart was being squished. I screamed agonizingly as black and blue dots appeared before my eyes and I felt my body tumbling down on the floor. Tears streamed down from my eyes and I shut them tightly.

"Almorach! Leave her!" Callahan growled.

"Why though?" He asked as his grin broadened. "I am getting very confused here, Devionth..." Almorach said, "Why are you protecting a little human when you can get enough soul from anywhere you want?"

Callahan's face twisted in anger as he hissed. "Like you? After killing people, taking their souls forcefully?"

Almorach smiled. "What can I say? I enjoy when their wishes are not fulfilled. The agony in their souls is just what makes me thrilled."

That moment I knew why Callahan snatched away his position and sent him to the dungeons. Because he was a psycho, a sadist. A devil not worthy of ruling. He made me sick to the core and I was glad that I had Callahan as my contract partner and not him.

"This is the pentagon of seeking power. And soon you will die and all of your powers will be mine." Almorach laughed evilly. "After you die, I will take the throne and kill all of your subjects!"

Callahan's face darkened as he gripped his trident tightly and tried to stand but he couldn't as if the power of the symbols were pulling him down with sheer force.

I moaned as I desperately heaved for breath but it felt like I was inhaling sands. Callahan looked me in the eyes. His hollowed eyes portrayed he was scared. Scared to lose me. "Hold on." He said as if he was saying to himself, "I'm going to save you, no matter what."

Tears fell from my eyes as I nodded. Somehow his words managed to subside the panic and the agony I felt as usual. His words had a certain assurance that had always made me think it would be alright. He would make it alright.

But I knew it wouldn't. That pentagon was so powerful that it held him captive and I could see his energy draining rapidly. Almorach came prepared. He was chatting with me which made me think that I was delaying him so Callahan would come but in reality, he was the one who was delaying so Callahan could come.

He knew he couldn't take Callahan down because he had become much more powerful than Almorach but if a demonic ritual could be placed, he could easily defeat him. So, this time he was the one tricked Callahan.

Suddenly I felt a presence behind me as I saw Callahan's eyes getting bigger and I knew it was Almorach.

"And how are you going to do that?" Almorach smiled as his grip caught my throat and he pulled me up as my feet were in the air. I couldn't breathe.

"Leave her, Almorach!" Callahan growled that could shake anyone with fear.

"Oh! I am going to kill her in front of you and enjoy it as her wishes won't be fulfilled and her agonizing soul leaves her body."

I laughed even if it was hard as his strong grip was around my neck. Both Almorach and Callahan looked at me with confused gazes. "My...wishes...were..."

I coughed, "...already... fulfilled, sucker!"

I looked at Almorach's eyes with a wide grin as I spat on his face, "Even...if...you...kill me... I will go back to Devionth."

Because my soul had always belonged only to him. I didn't say it but my face said it all. His grip tightened as I couldn't breathe anymore. But I didn't let him enjoy it as I closed my eyes with a smiling and a pleased face and Callahan on my mind.

Gretarioth's POV

As Gretarioth and others appeared, what they saw made them freeze. They were late!

Almorach's one hand caught Carson around her neck and his other hand was at Devionth, seemingly taking all the powers. The large pentagon had caught Devionth as his head hung low. He seemed like barely hanging there as the symbols on the pentagon glowed with his powers.

Gretarioth cursed in his breath.

He was about to head toward Almorach but then they heard a roar as if thunder clashed on the ground with its rage filled slap.

All three of them looked at source and saw Devionth stood in that pentagon with one hand on his trident and fire had engulfed his whole body as the pentagon started to burn. The rage filled hollow eyes of him were so terrifying that it could haunt anyone in their nightmares. His horns grew more and glowed red as if the metal was burning hot.

Gretarioth had never seen his brother like that ever before. He oozed with an insane amount of powers. The pentagon might have sucked his powers but it seemed like it couldn't do it anymore.

He went toward Almorach whose hand shook and soon his grip loosened around Carson's neck as her unmoving body fell on the ground with a thud.

"Carson!" Miorith was about to go but Gretarioth caught her hand.

Miorith looked at him with confused eyes as Gretarioth said, "Don't. I am going."

Miorith didn't question as she nodded. Gretarioth knew Almorach might find someone as his hostage because he was a lowly devil. It was better he went.

Gretarioth approached sneakily as he took Carson in his arms and looked at Devionth.

Devionth nodded as he slowly took away the human from the arena because it was going to be fierce, no doubt in that.

As he came back he said to Miorith and K'han. "Heal her."

Both of the devils went beside her as they started to chant and cast their spells while Gretarioth's eyes moved toward Almorach.

He saw Almorach's eyes were wide as fear wrapped him in its arms. His whole body shook and Gretarioth could feel it sipping out of him. He was scared. So scared that he couldn't focus on anything but the angry devil coming his way.

Devionth's nose flared with fire even his hollowed eyes were burning. His skin looked as if lava was about to spill out from its cracks. He stepped on the symbol of the pentagon as the whole pentagon started to burn and he took another step.

On the other hand, Almorach couldn't even move as if his bones were frozen. Gretarioth had to agree, the anger, the intense aura coming out of Devionth was terrifying.

"You!" Devionth's voice rumbled as if he was possessed by wrath, "You will regret ever coming back, Almorach!"

He took another step as the ground cracked as if the ground beneath him squirm with fear. "Because this time I won't send you to the dungeons."

He took another step.

"This time, I will burn you until you beg me to kill you."

A smile of appreciation crawled on Gretarioth's lips as he was once again proven right. His brother was certainly the best ruler.

Devionth took his trident as high as possible and hit the ground hard as the ground started to crack and it came to Almorach's feet. Hell fire roared from under the crack where thousands of thousand souls cried. The cries of agony. They were the souls who had commited sins that would never be forgiven.

Gretarioth was awestruck and it seemed both Miorith and K'han bore the same expression because not everyone had the power to summon hell fire. His heart pumped with pride and happiness as adrenaline rushed within him.

Almorach was about to run as Devionth swung his trident and sent it flying toward him. The trident came crashing on Almorach's back and tore his skin as he groaned in agony. He lost his footing as his body was falling to the crack beneath him.

But it wasn't enough.

Devionth spread his hand as a little dull orb appeared and he chanted something on it. It glowed with blue light as if it heard his wish and then he threw it on the crack as it fell toward Almorach.

Almorach's eyes widened with fear but he couldn't do anything as he was falling and as soon as the orb reached him, it created a large ball of mist and entered his body as he screamed. And soon hell fire devoured his whole body as a distant scream echoed.
