Chapter 32 - The Devil went on a Hunt

I twisted and twirled on the bed as my eyes were still closed but I was wide awake. I couldn't sleep!

How do I sleep when a sexy, half-naked devil is lying next to me!

I sat up, feeling a headache and I tapped on my temple.

"What happened?" Callahan's voice resonated from beside me as it startled me a little. I wasn't accustomed to having someone laying beside me. I didn't even sleep alongside my brother.

"Emm... It is just, I can't sleep and my head is aching." I said, still massaging my temple.

I stood up and he asked, "Where are you going?"

"Just to have some water." I said and with my lazy feet I dragged myself to the door. I opened the door and I headed to the kitchen.

I took the glass from one of the drawers and as I turned toward the tap, from my peripheral view, I saw someone standing at the corner of the kitchen. My heart pumped on my ears and my feet froze as a scream erupted from the back of my throat.

The glass fell from my hands as I stepped back but my back slammed against a hard chest. I turned around and saw it was Callahan. I quickly wrapped myself in him and buried my face on his chest as one of his hands held my waist in a protective barrier. I saw he held the glass that was about to fall from my hands previously.

"What are you doing here, Droyth?" Callahan asked with a hiss. His voice showed a hint of irritation.

Oh! It was Droy? I turned my head and saw it was indeed Droy but he stood beside the fridge as if he was hiding there. He had transformed into his devil skin and that was the reason I got scared.

"I-" Droy looked at him with a pair of frightening hollowed eyes and said with a shaky voice, "Someone was following me."

Callahan raised a brow and immediately his avatar changed to his devil form. He stood still as if he was trying to sense his surroundings. Both Droy and I looked at him with wide eyes, our hearts beating even louder. I could feel Droy was scared as hell because like a bunny he took shelter beside my fridge. And he came to my house because he knew his lord was the only one who could save him.

Whoever this enemy was must be strong otherwise Droy or Miory, both devils wouldn't be that wary.

Callahan's head moved toward the entrance as we all followed his gaze and I tucked myself deeper on his chest instinctively. But he didn't mind it.

Suddenly a person came crashing on the kitchen slab and Callahan shielded me immediately. The person clashed against the slab and fell with a harsh thud on the floor. Droy also got startled as he stepped back but his back got attached to the wall behind him.

Callahan went toward the person and both Droy and I followed him, taking our hearts in our hands. We saw it was Gretarioth and his hands were bleeding. I gasped as Callahan immediately went to his brother and held his body as if he was ready to take him to the hospital--if there were any devil's hospitals, that is. But Gretarioth sat up and opened his hollowed, dark eyes.

One of his horns was broken and I panicked. "Oh! My god! He is bleeding!"

"I am not bleeding! This is not my blood." Gretarioth hissed as he held out one of his hands and on his palm there was a tooth-like thing laid, although it was big. Bigger than my middle finger. "This is the thing I could get from that enemy who was following Droyth."

"What is it?" I asked as I looked at it warily. Was it some kind of monster or what?!

"It is the tooth of an ancient demon. A tribe mark of some demon tribes." Callahan answered thoughtfully.

Droy asked, "Tribal demons? What are they even doing here on earth?"

Callahan's face went grim as he took the tooth and inspected it. "Helhelior's tooth." He mumbled and Droy looked at him confusedly. But it seemed Gretarioth wasn't as confused as Droy and I were.

"Err... Who is that?" I asked. All of these were flying above my head.

"Helhelior was the only great demon who could fight against first generation devils. He was powerful but later after he got killed, some demons started to follow his foot. They wore his tooth as their tribe mark." Gretarioth answered as he stood up. "And this enemy might be a follower too but he is on a hunt for stronger devils."

"So, is this the kind of un-official tribe who are attacking every devil?" Droy asked.

"Could be but he didn't attack me instead he ran away when he saw I was following him instead." Gretarioth said.

"Alright. Then I will stay with Lord Devionth because I am just a fourth generation devil! And his powers were far greater than a second generation!" Droy panicked and paced around the floor as if he lost all of his hair on his head.

"Calm down." Callahan said. "This tribe is not that powerful. I will go and take a look at them." He smiled deviously as his canines peeked from his lips. "Stay here. I will be right back." He ordered as he cracked his knuckles and said before vanishing, "Time to go on a hunt."

I blinked at the place where Callahan was a moment ago. Did he just go there alone?

"Will he be alright?" I asked Gretarioth who shrugged and made me a bit angry. His brother just went there alone! Shouldn't he be a little worried?

"Why don't you just go and help him?" I asked, my voice getting louder.

He scoffed. "I'd rather go there with popcorn."

Both Droy and I looked at Gretarioth and we felt like beating the shit out of this devil but we waited.

"Did you know about this tribe?" I asked Droy who shook his head.

"Droy is a fourth generation devil. He wasn't even born when the tribe formed." Gretarioth said as he went to the bathroom. "I need to wash off these bloods. Don't mind me using your bathroom."

He didn't even ask me if he could use it or not, he just went there. They certainly were brothers.

"What are these first generation and fourth generation things? I don't understand." I asked Droy.

He scratched his head and explained, "First generation devils were the ones who were created by Satan directly. Giving them powers and positions and all. After that comes, second generation but they were created by first generations so they have less powers compared to the first generations. Since Satan was the one who created the first generations, they hold much more powers than all those generations together. And this goes on." He shrugged. "The second generation created the third, the third created the fourth."

I nodded. "How many generations are there?"

"Upto sixth." Droy said, "But upto fifth you can tell they are powerful. After that, they are really weak. So, creating generations after generations stopped since the later ones will be weaker."

"Oh." I looked at Droy and he seemed a bit disoriented and scared so I kept asking him questions to drift him away from thinking. "So if you combine your power with other generations, you won't be able to beat a first generation devil?"

"Nope." He shook his head and took a seat. "Even if Miory, I and a third generation devil combine our powers, we could never defeat Callahan or Gretarioth." I nodded now getting all the pieces together. That was why Miory and Droy always followed Callahan and never went against Gretarioth. As they both were first generation devils, they couldn't be taken lightly. But was one devil enough to fight off the tribe demons?

I was worried about Callahan but I had nothing to do other than that. My gaze fell on Droy and it seemed he was worried too.

"Do you wanna have some pudding?" I asked and Droy looked at with those adorable bunny eyes that always looked out for treats.

"Can I?" He asked as a hopeful, happy smile appeared on his face and I went to the fridge. I brought out the pudding I made just yesterday and I brought out two pieces of pastries since Gretarioth was present as well. Although he hated Callahan, somewhere deep inside me I felt he wasn't really into killing his own brother.

I placed the pudding before Droy as the blue devil started to devour it and moaned after each scoop hit his tongue. In the meantime, Gretarioth came and he had washed away the blood as he took a seat.

I slid the plate at him and he looked at it warily. "What is this?"

"Pastry."

"I don't eat these things."

"Fine. I will just eat it instead then." I was about to take it away when he said, "Since you insist, I may have a bite."

I rolled my eyes. He just wanted to eat it anyway...

All three of us ate the sweets as we waited for Callahan. My tension must be visible as Gretarioth said, "What do you think of Devionth?"

I looked at him with a pair of questioning eyes. "What do you mean?"

"He is not a weak devil who could be defeated easily with that Helhole or whatever kind of a tribe." He said with an annoyed voice, "If he was that weak, I could have killed him centuries ago."

Both Droy and I looked at him with wide eyes and gaps in our mouths. Did he just praise his brother? Did he just tell us to put our faith in his brother indirectly because he was going to return? Well, whatever it was, it certainly put faith in us to believe Callahan.

"This weird thing is good but not that great." Gretarioth said after finishing the pastry and stood up. "I am going back to Hell. I feel sleepy."

"Aren't you going to check on him?" I asked.

He scoffed and said before vanishing into the thin air. "He is already here."

As soon as he left, Callahan appeared, his whole body was bathed in blood and he said, "I need to take a shower."

"Please clean the bathroom while you are at it." I said as he went to the bathroom. The metallic scent lingered in the air as I covered my nose.

Droy released a sigh. "I guess it is over."

I shrugged as he said, "I will come back tomorrow. Tell Devionth I own him again."

I nodded as he vanished.

One thing I knew from tonight's events. Gretarioth wasn't a bad person--or a bad devil. He was worried but he didn't go as he knew Callahan had to do this on his own as this was his responsibility. Both Droy's and Miory's lives were his responsibility. He came back to give Callahan a clue and then he waited until his brother came back. Only when he was sure Callahan was here, he left.

Maybe the others couldn't see his inner self as he hid it quite well but it brought me a smile as both of the brothers were the same. They didn't show their care for others but would do everything. I was starting to find them adorable.

Callahan came back after a shower and he was now smelling like me. He got back to his human form and now he was half-naked again.

"So, it ended?" I asked.

"Who knows?" He gave me his usual, oscar winning, universal smile that I was well accustomed to.
