Chapter 28 - The Devil is missing

Regrets. Yes, there were many to count. And even if I was aware I had no courage to do what's important. Like now, I felt restless whenever I saw Callahan and I wanted to tell him my feelings but I had no guts.

I was afraid of rejection and more than that I was afraid of him leaving me. So, I decided when I'd be going to my home town in a few days, I would enjoy it wholeheartedly with Callahan--or so I'd thought.

After my conversation with Mr Denver, Callahan never came back so I returned home by myself and now, I was having dinner alone.

Where the hell did he go? Did he have a landline in Hell? Did they even use their phones there? Why the hell didn't he leave any message? And above all, why didn't I have his number?

Callahan used to be always around me and appeared without any notice thus, taking his phone number or any kind of contact details never came across my mind.

I made some chicken broth and kept one bowl for him. I had also made lasagna since I didn't know what he liked. Well, he was saying that he liked the taste of white sauce.

Images of him licking my lips appeared before me and I got flustered. I buried my face in my palms as I tried to calm my heart. He maybe did those moves casually but it was affecting me in all sorts of ways anyone could imagine.

As I sat to have my dinner, I heard someone open my fridge. I moved my gaze hoping it would be Callahan but it was Droyth who brought out my pudding as if it belonged to him.

"Droy! Where do you think you are taking the pudding?" I asked while grinding my teeth. He always came and robbed my puddings.

He poured almost half of the pudding in his mouth and said, "Ah! I almost forgot that I can't take your puddings."

Yet, he put another piece into his mouth.

"You... Put that back!" I yelled and with a pout he put it back.

"Can't I even have my pudding peacefully?" He complained.

"That is not even your pudding." I crossed my hands over my chest.

"Err... Then can I-"

"No!"

"But there is only a little left." He noted and I sighed. There was no point because he had already eaten most of it.

"Fine." I shrugged my hands in the air as I went back to my seat. At least, let me have my meals.

He seemed like he was about to do a happy dance as he sat on the chair Callahan used to sit and placed the plate on the slab before he started to devour it. His face glowed and stars appeared in his eyes as the pudding vanished into his mouth.

I was having my dinner and I asked, "Where is Callahan?"

He stiffened and I narrowed my eyes at him. I had noticed that Droy always came when Callahan wasn't here and since he said that Callahan was his lord, I was certain they would interact often.

"Well, he had some urgent business so he had to go." He informed me with a short explanation and I had a feeling he was hiding something as I nodded.

"Yes, I heard it but what kind of business?" I inquired.

"Eh?" At first, he seemed like he was finding some excuses but then he diverted the conversation. "Are you feeling lonely?" He raised a brow and gave a teasing grin.

"Don't try to avoid the question." I said with a straight face.

"But I came here to give you company in his absence." He pouted as if no one liked his company.

"I don't need any company since I am going to go to sleep. You can go back." I said as I sipped my soup.

"No I can't. Callahan instructed me to guard yo-" He bit his tongue as he realized he almost said it. He looked at me with wide eyes.

"Ho? So, Callahan instructed it, didn't it?" I pressured it as he avoided my eyes in guilt and finished the pudding.

"Err... No I meant..." He scratched the back of his head possibly to find another excuse but I didn't give him any time to think.

"So, care to tell me, where is he?" I smirked as I won this battle.

"Fine!" He sighed in defeat. "He went to look for Lucifer."

"For what?"

"That's confidential."

I rolled my eyes. All of their conversations met at one point that was 'confidential'. But it was easier to squish out some of that confidential information from Droy rather than Callahan who would never say a word.

"Maybe I can guess." Miory's voice came just beside me as both Droy and I got startled. Both of our eyes fell on her and saw, she was sitting on the slab as if she was a cat and applying something on her face.

"Why are you here as well?" I asked suspiciously. "Did Callahan send you?"

"What? No." She said as she applied the oil kind of substance on her face.

"I came here to invite you for a shopping date with me tomorrow." She said looking at the hand mirror in her hand.

"Shopping?"

She looked at me with a lazy gaze and said. "Because I wanna buy some dresses for your hometown festival."

I gave her a look. Devils liked to go shopping before any occasion seemed new to me. It was a bit out of the picture.

It seemed she could tell what I was thinking by reading my face and defended herself. "What?"

She got a bit agitated as both Droy's and my eyes fell on her. "Can't help alright? Someone burnt all of my clothes."

She hissed and clenched her fist as the mirror in her hand broke down to pieces. "Oh! Whoever it was, I'm gonna make their life miserable."

"Okay, okay. I will go with you but on one condition." I said.

Miory looked at me and she seemed like she was about to lose her patience. "What?!"

"No doing any kind of chaos." I said.

"I can't promise that since it is not always me." She said.

"What do you mean?" I gave her a questioning glance.

"At the beginning, I couldn't control my powers so the devils or demons around me had always stuck on some sort of troubles. Now that they know that it was me, they always come for me." She smirked and mumbled in herself, "And making them go through the worst situation possible makes my day. Fufufu."

She let out an evil laugh as Droy and I looked at each other. Droy gave me a wary gaze as if asking if I was gonna be alright. I shrugged.

To be honest, I didn't know but I thought I should just go and pamper myself a bit since I hadn't bought anything for a long time.

"Alright. Now both of you go." I pointed at them. "I need to sleep early."

As I started to wash the dishes they vanished into the air and now it was lonely again. Especially without Callahan.
