ChaPter 15 - The Devil loves Chaos
Ms secretary, Miory, was a nice person and not to mention, she had much more knowledge and was funny. I had never seen a person who could accompany me to dinner made me laugh but there was a time I felt something was about our surroundings.
In a few minutes, we had seen two unlucky encounters with teenagers. One was trying to play cool in front of his friends and suddenly he slipped off from his chair making a fool of himself.
She laughed when the other teenager tripped and fell on another teenager's lap, throwing the meals on his face in the process. And it led to a fight and soon there was a food fight. I was glad we had taken a corner but it still wasn't confirmed if we were out of their fighting zone.
I laughed, mimicking her because it felt unusual to trip when he had no obstacles in his path.
"Damn, that made my day," She said as she sipped on her coffee.
I asked, "The food fight?"
"No, the chaos."
I halted as I looked at her but the fight still attracted her attention. She mumbled to herself but I could hear it, "Panicking, rage, I just love them screwing with each other."
There was a certain glint in her eyes which a passionate lover would have when they see their desires being fulfilled. Somehow it made me uncomfortable because there wasn't any lover present instead a total mess was going on.
She must have realized what she said as she looked at me and corrected, "I... The food fight is very nostalgic."
I gave her a smile and nodded as it felt like she made an excuse. The way she said about liking chaos somehow made me recall Callahan.
I took my food slowly as she suddenly asked, "Do you have a boyfriend?"
I snapped my head up and shook. "No. Well I had one but he..."
"Cheated?" She finished but there was an amusement dancing on her face.
I didn't say a word and then it got into me that if she was a secretary of a devil, what if she was also...
"A devil?" She asked and it made my eyes go wide.
"Did you just hear my thoughts?" I asked and she laughed.
"Well, of course." Then the surrounding froze around us and everyone stopped moving.
"Now that Devionth or you might call him Callahan is not here, I can hear you." She said, "Although still not clearly. Damn, he had put a pretty strong spell on you."
I didn't know what she wanted or why she tried to contact me as I asked, "So, why have you come here? To meet me?"
"With a friend, of course." She answered and I rolled my eyes.
"Of course, it is not a friend. You have lied about that and it is obvious." I said.
She laughed. "I do lie but I am here with an old friend. But I am curious as to why Callahan is so obsessed with his human?"
"What do you mean?"
"I meant what I said." She sipped on her smoothy, "He would never put a strong spell on a human. Why waste his energy on some puny human when he could have as many souls as he wanted?"
I had no clue what she was saying and I thought it was futile to ask her since they don't really answer anyway. I finished my meal.
"Well, I think we have finished our dinner and now I would like to go back to my home." I said as I brought out a couple bills and placed it on the table, forgetting that she was going to pay for my dinner.
"Why so hurry?" She said as she smirked and my insides howled with caution. Whoever she was, she wasn't going to let me off the hook easily and I had no devil to protect me from her. So I pushed my hands inside my bag as I searched for the pepper spray. Did pepper spray work on Devils?
I halted at the thought. Come to think of it, I had never applied pepper spray on a devil before. And the only way I would be able to find it out after applying it on her.
I was about to stand up when a large palm fell on my shoulder. I went still and suddenly my whole body froze. It wasn't a familiar one and she might not be lying about waiting for a friend.
I looked above my shoulders and saw a black haired guy was standing near me. He had the same jawline as Callahan and the same eyes as him. If I had seen him from afar, I would easily mistake him for Callahan.
I saw from my peripheral view that the surrounding was still frozen. That only meant he wasn't a normal friend but also a devil himself. What was wrong with my life having so many devils around me?
I thought frustratedly.
The guy might bore the same eyes but he felt like he wasn't a good call. I could feel his power sipping out of his body and I could not even move his hands from me. His eyes glinted evilly and from head to toe, he screamed of danger.
"Took you long, Gretarioth," Miory said, "Weren't you so eager to meet her?"
"Of course, I am." Gretarioth said smiling at me which gave me a cold sweat. "I want to see why my brother is so into a weak woman like her?"
"Same pinch yet I find nothing in her that is very attractive." Miory said.
Gretarioth pulled away his hands and sat next to Miory as he said, "I am offended to find a feeble like her."
"Hey! I am still here, you know!" I angrily said as both of them looked at me with quizzical brows. "I can pretty much hear you guys."
"She knows our language?" She asked in my language pretty clearly as I rolled my eyes.
"You guys are literally talking in English!" I said and added as I pointed my finger on the guy next to Ms secretary, "And you are Callahan's brother?"
"Yes I am. Who has taught you our language?" He asked.
"No one."
"Who is she? I can't feel any power from her yet she clearly understands us." He asked Miory but his eyes stayed on me with shock and amusement mixed in them.
"Beats me."
I narrowed my eyes at them as they acted as if I wasn't there at all even though I clearly stated I could understand them.
"Alright!" I said as I stood up, now I was irritated and frustrated by them. "I am going back. Thank you for the dinner."
"Sit." Gretarioth said more like his words held power and suddenly my body moved and sat on the seat on their own. I was dumbfounded and as I registered it was the work of the man before me, I glared at him.
"What do you want?" I asked, clenching my fists on my lap. Even though I was scared I didn't want them to see that.
"Nothing." He shook his head and added, "Just thought of messing with my brother. I hadn't seen him for a few decades." He pouted, "He avoids me and I bet he found out that I came to earth that's why he left to hell."
I raised my brow as I said with irritation visible in my voice, "Well, have fun messing with him but currently he is not here. Why don't you go and find him in hell instead?"
"Oh, he will come here." He smirked. "But I am very amused at you. You are here surrounded by two devils yet you have no trace of fear."
"Guess, I am special." I said with a tight lipped smile which irked him.
"You are certainly Callahan's pet." He said, "The same way he talks, the same way he loves to toy around people and the same way he likes to gain his share."
I clenched my teeth as a small pit fire was slowly rising in my belly. They must be brothers but both of them were different. Where Callahan may have done bad things with people--well, he was a devil, after all-- but I was certain Gretarioth was the one who fed on those.
"Okay, that's enough." I said because I was too tired to deal with any of them right now and not to mention, I was fading with hearing the name Callahan all the time. He left without a notice. I knew he was angry but he didn't have to give me cold treatment that much. I was tired of people giving me attitudes and I didn't want to handle any of this anymore.
I got up and said, "Do whatever you want but cast me out of it. I am tired."
I was about to walk when in a span of my blink, Gretarioth came before me. His eyes turned black and it reminded me more of Callahan. He said in a very deep voice that would make anyone scream with fear, "Young Lady, I see you have some nerve to disobey my commands. You should know I am not like Callahan."
But I was accustomed to it as I had heard it from Callahan and now it didn't affect me at all. I stood tall on my ground, looking into his eyes I said, "I had a contract with Callahan, not you. Don't try to put your nose in every matters." I smirked as I said, "I see why Callahan wants to avoid you."
At that, both of them were dumbfounded as well as me. Well, I had never really belittled anyone let alone a devil.
His face burnt with anger as Miory mouthed with a sly smirk, "You are so dead."
Yeah, I knew that already. Challenging a devil was like digging my own grave and I was screwed. So damn screwed.
He was about to snap at me when a laughter echoed from behind me. All of us looked behind only to find Callahan leaning against a table and laughing hysterically. "You never failed to amuse me, Carson." He said and somehow I felt relieved.
I glared at him and asked, "Where were you?"
"Why, you missed me?"
"In your dreams." I turned away and took my bag. I was angry at him. I had no idea why it irritated me that he hadn't told me anything.
"Gretarioth, long time no see." He said as Gretarioth smirked and said, "Hello, brother. I haven't seen you for ages. I was beginning to think you might have forgotten me."
Callahan crossed the distance and said, "Of course, why would I forget the precious brother of mine who wants to kill me so badly?"
Gretarioth smiled, "You praise me too much, Devionth. I would love to do that but now is not the time."
Callahan nodded, clearly amused by his brother's comment, "Try harder. You know it will take you a millennium to kill me."
Gretarioth's left brow twitched yet he had the same smile on his face and my eyes drifted between them. I had to say I was surprised by their love for each other.
"Now, leave my subject, will you?" Callahan asked, "You know how I despise when others come to get what I have."
"Well, you don't really have her, brother. Not until whatever contract you have formed with her completes." Gretarioth smirked and from his statement it seemed he was up to something.
Callahan had the sweet smile on his lips yet I could feel his annoyance. "She belongs to me, Gretarioth, even if the contract doesn't get fulfilled."
His words hit my heart like an arrow hit a point. My face heated as I diverted my attention and looked at the ground as if it was the most interesting thing to see. What did he mean by I belonged to him? I mean after finishing his task, would I be his?
Butterflies fluttered in my belly and I didn't know why. I had never heard anyone saying those words to me as he meant it.
"Let's go, Carson, I need to catch up with you, especially on recent events." Callahan said and held my hand as the surrounding became normal again. I nodded and started to follow him as a smile slowly appeared in my face.
While we held hands and walked through the tables, the food fight continued and a plate came flying at Callahan.
He evaded it as he bent his head and the plate with spaghetti smashed against my face, killing all the butterflies in my belly.
I heard laughter from Ms Secretary's mouth as I recalled who helped to start it. The plate fell on the ground as I moved my head slowly at Miory, my face covered in the dish.
"Stop this food fight, will you?" I glared at her as she shrugged, "I love Chaos."
I nodded, clenching my fist as I gave her a tight lipped smile, "You love it, don't you?"
She smirked and said, "Ye-"
But she could not finish her words as I took a plate full of ice cream that the poor lady behind me was having and threw it on her face. The bowl hit her face and all the cream decorated her face with pink, white and green coloured ice creams. "So, how do you like it now, Miory?" I smiled at her slyly and asked, "Loving the taste of Chaos, aren't you?"
Her face reddened with anger as the ice creams melted and both Gretarioth and Callahan started to laugh. I turned around, took Callahan's hand and left it with a bunch of tissues with me.
