Chapter 3

I woke up and stared at my computer screen.

My head felt like someone had sat on it and the computer's screen was now on someone's YouTube channel.

Someone was here.

The person messed with my stuff while I was asleep.

I checked my body to see if the person hadn't done anything to me or stolen anything.

It's not like I had cash on me.

My body was intact thankfully. The person wasn't a bully, if he was then I wouldn't be here.

I was sick of the bullies. I wanted them to pay.

But how?

I stood up.

Woah, I might have missed some classes.

I stared at the time on the computer and gasped.

4:32, it read.

I slept throughout school!!!

I was shocked.

How was this possible? I couldn't have slept for six hours straight!

I ran to the front door of the library.

Miss Baker was there and looked surprised when I was heading for the door.

"Chad?" She asked puzzled. "What are you still doing here? I thought you had gone long ago"

"I forgot something," I said hastily and pushed the doors open.

The hallway wasn't full, only a couple of students walked down chatting away.

I groaned. I missed a whole day of school.

I am in so much trouble.

I hurried to class and grabbed my bag before anyone could see me and ran away.

The hallway was now empty when I bolted put but I could still see dark silhouettes outside the school.

I walked to the door wondering where Jason was or the amount of trouble I was in.

But then, a strong hand pulled me back and I stumbled.

Whipping around, I saw that it was Frederick Anchor and two of his friends.

Neo and Matt.

Neo had dyed his hair green during the summer and he looked horrible with it.

Matt was the shortest of the three and had dreadlocks.

The two of them were mindless guys who followed Frederick everywhere and enjoyed kicking ass.

"Look," I say but Frederick throws a punch to my face so quickly that I thought he was the flash.

My lips cracked and blood oozed out.

"That's for this morning," he said and punched me in my stomach.

I clutched my stomach in pain and winced.

"You think you can just mouth off," He said. "Embarrass me in front of the whole school body?!"

I groaned and winced in pain.

Neo pushed me hard so I would stand up very well.

"The fuck do you think you are!!" Frederick cried like a maniac.

I then ran.

"Come back here!" Frederick cried. "Neo, Matt get him you asshats!!"

I could hear thundering feet coming after me.

I didn't dare look back.

I pushed a few people who were still hanging out in school aside and struggled to keep my glasses on.

"Hey!"

"Dude where were you today?" Some people asked.

"I guess the dude and Pythagoras had a long chat,"

I threw myself against the front doors surprising some people and someone slapped my head.

I ignored the person and the pain and ran for my life.

If Neo and Matt caught me I would be toast.

I ran faster than I ever had in my life.

My chest started to ache and I coughed, slowing me down a bit.

Oh no! My asthma.

Suddenly I couldn't breathe. I had to stop.

I ran into the back lot of the school in order to hide from Neo and Matt.

It was empty.

I removed my bag from my back and looked for my inhaler, breathing rapidly.

Then, a strong hand threw me to the ground. My bag flew three feet away from me.

It was Neo. Matt chugged up beside him grinning like the devil himself.

"Please.." I said gasping for air.

I could die now.

They only laughed and started punching me. My glasses flew off my face allowing them to punch me in the eye.

Frederick soon joined and gave me the beating of my life.

My throat was on fire.

Little air was entering my nostrils and I think my lungs had shut down.

I gasped and wheezed but they continued.

Six fists collided with my body every two seconds and pain coursed through my body along with the burning sensation of my throat.

And then they stopped, thankfully.

"That'll teach ya," Frederick said and kicked me.

The three ran away.

I coughed and tried to stand up, my head began to spin and I coughed a couple of times.

I wheezed and felt weak, my body felt like it was shutting down.

My face hurt along with the rest of my body. I could feel the wet feeling of blood on my face. And my eyes hurt like hell.

I tried to stand up to reach my bag. But I couldn't.

"Why....me?" I wheezed.

Some middle school kids who took the back lot of our school to go home came walking down.

They were four in number and they walked quickly like they were late for something.

"Please....my bag," I said to them.

"Sorry man,"One of them said.

"We got a game," And with that they walked away.

I decided to crawl, my body scraped along the gravel and finally I grabbed my bag and sat up with it on my lap.

I dropped my hand inside the bag and felt for my inhaler.

My breath was shallow and raspy and came out very loud.

I pulled my inhaler out and stuck it into my mouth and took two puffs, and my breath returned back to normal.

But my chest still hurt, I had been gasping for air for almost five minutes.

I sighed and sat down in the empty parking lot for a while crying to myself.

"I swear you will all pay," I say but I knew that they wouldn't.

I didn't have the chance or the brawn to go toe to toe against Frederick and his goons.

I was just a sixteen year old nerd who was a main target.

My glasses were not harmed. Which came to me as a surprise.

I wore them back and walked home.

My face was bruised and swollen and I was sure I looked like a Jack O lantern.

On my way home, some people cast weird glances at me and some bratty kids laughed.

"Hey kid," An elderly man called out to me with a worried expression on his face. "Are you okay?"

I nodded and continued to walk on the street.

The town's sheriff, sheriff Brent's slick patroller rolled past me. He wore his trademark brown cop uniform and his wide brim hat.

"Hey Chad," he cried. "What the fuck happened to your face?"

I forced a smile even though it hurt. "Had an accident,"

Sheriff Brent was a nice guy, he knew everyone in town. His little brother was the pastor at the church.

He nodded and rolled away.

I remembered that Jason had asked me to come over, but I couldn't come in this condition.

When I got to our block, mom's car wasn't in the driveway.

The house stood silent as a graveyard.

I guess no one's home. The porch was empty and the welcome mat looked dusty as it was.

I checked under the mat for any keys.

Nothing.

Maybe Mom kept it in the flower pot in the backyard.

Sure enough it was there.

I removed the keys and walked to the porch.

I stopped when I saw a small box sitting there.

Huh?

It wasn't here when I came home.

I turned around to see if I could catch the person that dropped it.

A blue car rolled by, a couple of toddlers were playing with their dad's sprinklers across my house.

Other than that, no one was around the street.

"Weird,".I muttered and picked it up.

There was a card on top of it.

To Chad, From your Dad.

"No way!" I cried.

I was excited, Dad actually sent me something.

This was the first time he had sent me anything since mom divorced him four years ago.

I was so excited that I forgot that the door hadn't been opened.

I hurriedly put the key in the lock and swung the door open.

Holding the box in my hand, I entered the house and could hear the low hum of the fridge coming from the kitchen.

I rushed to my room and threw my bag on my bed.

I ripped off the brown paper covering the box.

Inside was a black book.

"A book?" I ran my hand across the front cover of the book. It looked old.

On the cover of the book written in gold print was;

The Devil's Order.
