Chapter 2 : Padre

Year 1865

Father Robert Sigick was ordained at a very young age of twenty-one, one of the youngest in his year to be ordained. Robert since his early childhood had a gift. He was clairvoyant, this gift of his was recognised by his elders as refined and powerful which lead to him becoming a paranormal investigator sanctioned by the Vatican. He has been in this field for nearly 20 years and this time he has been summoned to the Revera Convent, a congregation of sisters commited to the protection of abhorrent and evil objects. They are a strong congregation full of women gifted like Father Robert and very well equiped in concealing the secrets of abhorrent evil with success.
Until now the congregation dealt with objects or cults as a whole but in the recent years they have had to deal with a human, a girl. She was brought here by her maiden nurse and caretaker Miss Amy who claimed that she was a monster; a demon who killed it's mother and father within the sixteen years of it's lifespan. The sisters had heard rumours and when told of it's autheticity they took her in without notifying the Vatican.
As time went by the girl did not show known signs of any possessions. They decided to let her go after she turned eighteen hoping that she would be old enough to fend for herself or get her married to one of the villagers. This all went as planned until recently Sister Lucia passed away suddenly, it was then that the night she was buried in the convent vicinity that on of the Sister's found the young girl standing close to Sister Luci's grave staring blankly at it. Upon coming closer in order to take her back inside the convent they found that something was wrong. The girl had her feet off the grounds, she was levitating with her eyes rolled up only showing the whites. The Sister in charge screamed for help and the others ran outside and witnessed the horrifying scene. It was then that they decided that it was time to notify the Vatican and that was when Father Robert was summoned all the way from Brazil where he was currently working. Father was quickly briefed upon the situation by the cardinal incharge and set off to the England that very day. It took him three days by ship to arrive at England and another extra two days to by shifting carriages to reach the known village of Little Hamlington.

The village was almost abondened and there were hardly any people living in it. The few that lived seemed to be unwelcoming of visitors. Father Robert decided to take a break from his long journey and stopped by an inn hoping to get something to eat and drink and then again set off towards the convent. He wanted to be at the covent as soon as possible. This cases seemed odd and very different from the ones that he had handled before.

By the time dusk broke Father Robert was already within the vicinity of the convent but he had been stopped outside the gates by one of the guards who asked him the reason for this visit. Father did not say a word and produced a letter from his pocket and handed the letter to the guard. The guard read the letter and asked him to wait at the gate and immediately set off to call the head nun.

The head nun of the Rivera Convent was young yet accomplished
She was not only clairvoyant but also a medium. She had an extraordinary knowledge of the unknown but even the greatest of humans fall victim to fear and guilt at times.

After a while Father Rob noticed a woman in her late twenties walking towards him with the guard beside her struggling to keep up with her pace. She was clad in the usual black robes worn by the conventees.
Sister Rosmerta was a very rigorous and staunch woman, no one in the convent had the power to disregard or to talk back to her.

"Good evening Father Robert Sigick. We have been expecting your visit for a long time now." She said with a voice that had grace yet demanded to be heard.

"Ah good evening Sister...?" said Father a little inquiringly.

"Rosemerta, Sister Rosemerta." said Sister and gave the priest a tight smile.

"Hmm...I hope the child is ready to speak to me?" said the priest, hoping to get to the cases as quickly as possible.

"Oh...but Father I was expecting you would rest a while before speaking to her?" said Sister a bit concerned.

"No, no I need not rest when people need my service. I will get to investigating right away. I have come prepared." said the priest trying to fake a smile. He was tired from the journey but God comes first and this is his vocation through which he serves the Almighty and His people in need.

Sister Rosemerta led Father to the convent and showed his room in which he will be staying, it was away from the Sister's living quarters on the other side of the graveyard. It was an empty building made specially for guests like Father Robert.

"This will be you room for the time that you stay here. I hope you make yourself comfortable and let me know if you need anything Father Sigick." said the Sister as if she had rehearsed the entire thing.

"Oh please call me Father Robert, Sister." said he and gave her a childish smile.

"Alright, I will leave you to unwind while I go and prepare... the girl." Sister Rosemerta said this with an uneasy glance at the coss that hung above the bed. She did not like having to talk to that girl.

"She has a name, right?" asked Fathe Robert in a matter-of-fact tone.

"Yes, of course she does." Said the Sister taken a bit aback.

"Then call her by her name." Said the priest with his back to Sister
Rosemerta, looking out the window, at the lake behind his lodging.

"Fine. I will prepare Carol to speak to you." said Sister Rosemerta in a haughty voice and turned around to leave the room.

Father Robert still facing the window gave a gentle simle and said, " Thank you, Sister." As Sister left the room he slowly knelt down beside the window to pray.
