Chapter two
Waking up the next morning, Friday has finally come. It's Friday the thirteenth. A great day to have a party. Getting ready with my music on blast is great. Singing along to my favourite tunes. It takes me around twenty minutes to get ready.
Packing my things in my school bag, I head upstairs with my things, packing my lunch. Grabbing leftovers from before, I chuck everything in my bag. Grabbing an apple, "bye Mom, bye dad." I say before leaving the house. Just as I was about to close the door, my mom said, "don't forget to take out the garbage on your way out. And that your father and I are leaving for the weekend so when you get home, we won't be here."
"Okay, have fun."
Walking down the front, I grab the garbage bin, rolling it to the curve and leaving for school. Walking along the side of the busy road, I eat my apple, ingesting every bite, every juicy bite. Throwing the core into the trash can, I walk up to the school yard meeting Melody, Jane, Kristy and Justin.
"Hey girl, ready to get this sluggish day over with so we can party!" Melody bursted rubbing her shoulder against mine. I giggled at her enthusiastic personality.
Heading inside, we took a seat on the steps talking of what tonight's going to be like. As the time passed, the school began to fill quickly. Soon enough, the bell rang as we all hustled to our classes. Settling in my seat, I took my books and got ready for the first class. The announcements came on as we sat there quietly listening. Then the national anthem came on as we stood.
"Okay class, take out your books and turn to page 181 and start reading, jotting down important notes. Reading the book, I got side tracked as I got lost in my own mind. Snapping out of it, I continued reading.
During lunch, I sat with my friends. As we ate around our table, the two guys we bumped into yesterday, came up to us. The one who I don't know stayed back a few feet. Hudson came up to Melody.
"Hey, nice to bump into you again."
"Yeah, nice." Melody rolled her eyes while drinking her water. "Look, Harold."
"Hudson."
"Hudson, go before you're sorry." she threatened. "Well, I'm going to do just the opposite."
Hudson pushed his way beside her.
"Hudson, let's go." his friend said.
"Just wait, I got something for this chick."
"You've got ten seconds to get out of here before I beat you."
"Hudson," his friend said with stern.
He wrapped his arm around her neck smiling. "If we do something just the two of us, I will leave you alone."
"Like what?"
"You, me, alone in a bedroom tonight. I heard there's a party going on,"
Melody smiled one of the smug smiles. "Okay, just you and me crawling into bed together. Fooling around." Melody grabbed onto his shirt, leaning ever so close to his face giving that evil grin.
"Yeah, just tonight and I will leave you alone."
"In your dreams." She pushed him off the bench landing on the concrete. "Now I thought that went well." Hudson got up running his head. "Bugger off."
Flipping him the finger, the five of us chuckled. "This isn't the last of me."
He stormed off. His friend is still standing there. Looking up at him, I responded, "You do realize that your friend there is a creep."
Without saying a word, he kept staring at us, his expression not changing. "You seem innocent, come sit with us." Justin invited. He didn't budge. "Come, we don't bite, plus we aren't going to get mad." Kristy exclaimed, waving him over. Hesitated, he glanced over his shoulder before slowly making his way over. Melody patted a seat beside her where Hudson sat. He sat down looking petrified. We locked gazes. "So, what is your name?"
Breaking contact, he looked over at Jane. "My name?"
"Yes your name." Jane sounded irritated.
"M-M-Mason."
"Well, Mason, nice to meet you. You do know that your friend is creepy as hell?"
"He's not usually like this."
"Well, can you do me a favour?" Melody asked politely.
No answer, just stare. "Can you tell him to not come near us? Thank you. You can leave now." She patted him on the back. The bell rang. He lifted up running inside. "Good going, you scared him." I say.
"Good, so they can stay away from us."
Heading to our classes, I stopped by my locker to grab my books before I head to my Math class. Walking down the hallway, I scoot in the class as everyone is in their seats.
"You're late, Hailey." Mr. Smith said. He's the strictest teacher in the whole school. "I'm sorry, Mrs Smith. It won't happen again."
"It sure won't happen again."
I sat down in my seat waiting to begin class.
The end of the day came as I walked home alone. My friends went to get ready for the party tonight. Jane and Justin will pick me up later tonight. Getting back, the car is gone. I completed my homework, ate a small dinner, and got ready.
Stripping out of my clothes, I hopped in the steamy shower and washed my body and hair. Afterwards, I blow dried it and found some party clothes. Glancing at the time, it was quarter after five. Soon they will pick me up. I sat down watching tv waiting for them. Watching a romantic movie, the doorbell rang. Turning off the tv, I opened the door and saw Jane all dressed up in ripped jeans and a white blouse, almost the same as me. Justin dressed in a jacket, plain black shirt and baggy jeans.
"Ready girl?"
"Sure am."
I grabbed my black short heel boots. Locking the front door, I walk to the car with the other two, hopping in the back seat. Driving down the main road, Justin turns into her neighborhood driving down the streets, ending up at her house. A lot of cars are parked on the driveway and on the side of the road. Parked, we got out with a bottle of wine that they picked up on the way.
Getting inside, I handed Kristy the wine as we went in. Almost every student in our grade, and few from other grades, we in the house partying or outside. Drinking, chatting away. There was music playing in the background. Coming up to the kitchen counter where snacks and drinks were laid out, Kristy set the wine, opening it.
"Feel free to do whatever you want. It's Friday the thirteenth after all."
The five of us hung around the kitchen table eating and drinking. Taking four shots, we decided to spin the bottle.
"Anyone who wants to play, spin the bottle, go to the living room and sit in a circle!" Kristy yelled at everyone. Some wanted to play, so we sat in a small circle. Someone brought an empty bottle of wine. We started playing, one of the kids spinning the bottle and landing on Justin.
"Ahhh they get to kiss!"
"Ooohhh."
Standing up, they pecked on the lips.
"Come on, three seconds at least."
Kissing again, they got right into it before letting go. Just as Justin spun the bottle, Mason and Hudson came to the living room. "Well, well, well. It's the chick that pushed me off the bench and turned me on."
"Okay, buster, come join us two. You can play, if you stop calling me chick."
"Deal."
They sat down, Mason beside me. Feeling awkward, I scootch over a bit to give him space. After Justin spun the bottle and kissed another girl. Melody spun the bottle and landed on Hudson. "You serious?"
"Come here, give me some of your lips. Sitting beside her, they kissed miraculously. "Such young love." I said,
As everyone at least had a turn, everyone else left the seven of us stuck around talking. Mason didn't say much, just sat there listening.
The time had passed as everyone started to leave. Being one o'clock as we are drunk. Staying at Kristy's house, we decided to have some fun with it. "Okay, we need to do something with our time, I'm not tired." Jane replied.
"I would love to." Hudson answered.
"Well . . . what would you like to do?" I ask. Mason had stayed quiet through the night. "Mason." Melody asked as Mason jerked his head up. "What would you like to do?" I believe Melody is trying to seduce him because she seems flirtatious.
He shrugged his shoulders. "Maybe we can go walking around the city Justin suggested.
"I'm all in for a night out." Hudson replied without thinking. "Mason, how do you feel about walking in the night in the city?" Kristy asked.
He shrugged his shoulders.
"I'm taking that as a yes."
Everyone boosted up from the ground walking out the front door. I grab a bottle of water from her fridge on the way out.
Walking in the night, we laughed and chatted as we headed into the city. Walking behind the others I walked with Mason. "So, you seem very quiet. Do you ever talk at all?" I asked him.
"Yeah." he hesitated. Mason was scared and I can tell. "You know you can talk right?"
"I know."
I was drunk and wasn't thinking. I stepped on the road walking right in the middle. My walking turned to tripping over my own feet. I had too much to drink but I didn't care. A light in the distance came upon my vision. Kept on walking in the middle of the road. The light got closer and closer.
Flashing before my eyes, something hit me. I looked up and saw Mason laying ontop of me. I heard the others come running to us, calling my name. "You've . . . you've saved my life."
