Chapter two

I'm not happy.

I'm furious.

Today's the day where we move to the town where they have accepted Dad. I don't even know the name of the town. All I know is it's secluded in a forest and everyone knows each other. So we'd be considered an outcast and everyone will know that we're not from there instantly. I hate getting the attention from strangers because I never know what they're thinking. I know I'm not the only one who feels this but I always feel that people are watching me and laughing at my existence.

I'm packing my bag in the car when I go back inside to take a look at the empty house. The house that I grew up in. My father is on the phone talking with his boss while my mom helps the movers with the last boxes. I walk upstairs to my bedroom which has plain walls, an empty closet and a window.

It saddens me that I will no longer be living here, no longer going to school here. I will hardly see Juliet and who knows when she'll be busy or not. Sliding down the wall all the memories flashes before my eyes.

I didn't know how long I was sitting there when mom came into the room. "C'mon dear, we're leaving."

I nod standing up following her to the car. The moving truck has left as father is waiting in the car. "Ready to go ladies?"

"Sure am!" my mother exclaims as she hops into the car. I crawl into the back getting comfortable with the boxes surrounding us. I managed to pull out a blanket and my book that I'm currently reading, Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard. I have brought a few books with me for the journey so I wouldn't get bored because let's be honest, staring out the window watching the scenery pass by for five hours straight is pretty boring. l wrap my blanket around me placing my bag on the box to rest my head on. Dad drives away from the house with our journey beginning.

-

An hour has passed with only four hours to go. I have finished the book when I pull out my phone to scroll through Instagram. I wanted to know what Juliet and everyone else is doing. Scrolling through the pictures and stories I come to the conclusion that a party is occurring tonight which I won't be attending. I don't enjoy those kinds of parties but Juliet always drags me wanting to discover hot boys for her and I to date. I always laugh and joke about it with her as they're not my type. I'm not planning on finding a guy for me, I want to live life single with my friends and family. Or so I wanted.

"Aren't you excited sweetie?" mom asked as she turned around to check on me.

"Not really."

"Why not? You can make new friends and discover new things around town. It's small enough for new friends."

"So? I wanted to stay behind and finish my education there. Who knows when I'll get to see Juliet again."

"I know honey, but it's for your father's work. Plus it's always good to meet new people."

"I guess." I went back to my phone attempting to distract myself from the change. Sure, change is good but this is a massive change that I was not given enough time to prepare for.

-

Half an hour has gone by when dad asks if we're hungry and boy was I. We stopped at a McDonald's in one of the towns we were driving through. He parked the car then we headed inside to give my father a break. Giving dad our orders, mom and I took a seat in one of the booths with a TV, with subtitles on, playing a football game quietly in the corner. Mom and I were chatting about what the town would be like when I finally asked her the question I've been wanting to ask.

"What's the town's name?"

"I think Black Burn. It's a town that's not very well known."

Oh great. We're moving into a town that's surrounded by a forest where anything can happen and it's not very known. I swear if something happens to me no one will know because we're in the middle of nowhere.

"Fun," I say sarcastically.

Dad brought the food over and I ate my nuggets silently while my parents talked about Black Burn. The plan is once we get settled into our new home, which they had found a couple days before I found out we're moving, Mom is going to look for a job, I get enrolled into school tomorrow and start the next day while dad will be at work.

Here's the thing, his work isn't in town, but close to town which doesn't make sense to me that we didn't move into the city or something. It would be easier on me if people minded their own business while I focus on my classes. It would make my life easier from being called the new girl and possibly being bullied.

Shaking my head I forgot everything when I texted Juliet.

Yo Juliet, I'm fucking scared for the new town and school. Everyone knows each other while we'll be an outcast!

Yo bitch, don't worry about it. If anything happens just punch them showing everyone not to mess with you.

Hahaha very funny. What's happening over there?

The party tonight, I'm going but it wouldn't be the same without you here. I'll have to distract myself with alcohol or something. But hey, I'll last.

I wish I could be there even though I hate parties.

Yeah, anyway tell me what your new house and the town is like so I could come and visit.

Of course I will.

I finished my nuggets and fries ready to leave when my bladder spoke. "I'll be right back," I head to the washroom quickly before leaving.

-

I started the next book a while ago. The drive was too long and boring for me but the reading kept me entertained. I can't wait to get there just to get the drive completed. My legs feel numb from being still in one place and my ass is sore from sitting on the leather seats. "How much longer?" I whine.

"Another hour or so," dad says concentrating on the road. I sigh deeply going back to my book.

-

We finally made it to town and it's nothing like I'd expected. Everything seems so gray and bland. People are walking around and kids are playing at the park but it's not too busy with cars, the clouds are blocking the sun which makes it worse. The citizens seem lively but not the town itself. I glance out the window noticing that the people are staring at us, a car full of boxes and a moving van uop ahead. They all know that we're the new people which will put a lot of attention on me, which I'd rather stay in the shadows minding my own business.

Stopping at a light I notice a group of cheerleaders smirking about something until they turn towards our car and laugh. Oh great!

I slide down in my seat hiding myself from anyone else. Light turning green we continued down the street until we turned left. I couldn't tell where we're headed until we stopped completely. Lifting from my slouch position to see a duplex, actually several duplexes.

Crawling out the car I stretch from the long car ride. I take a good look at the neighborhood which seems okay. Not a lot of people are out wandering but I continue in the house. It wasn't too big from the inside, from the small entrance the kitchen is right there next to the living room, then the stairs to the upstairs. The moving people are filling the house with the necessities while I make my way upstairs to check out the rooms. The rooms weren't too big, infact, the master bedroom is the same size as my room back in the old home which was a medium size.

I check the room on the other end of the stairway, which at each end has the bedrooms and in the middle is the bathroom. I walk into the room which is half the size of the master bedroom. I could make it work. Rays of sun shines through the window that's curtainless. That's the first thing I need to deal with. Going to the window I look out to the neighborhood. Yep, I definitely need curtains.

The walls of the room are plain creamy brown which I also need to fix. If I'm going to live here I need to make this room my liking. I started mapping out the room of where I'll place my bed and dresser, what color walls I'll do and if I'll need new curtains. I never noticed mom walking in when she knocked on the door frame.

"Honey, we need your help unpacking our things in the living room and kitchen."

I am leaving my bedroom for now.

-

A couple hours later and we're not even close to being finished. We took a dinner break and we ordered take out. Dad had to go take a call for work while mom and I took a tour around town getting food. During the ride I take pictures of the town to send to Juliet as Mom is jamming to her 90's music. We pull into a pizza place that I don't recognize, Tony's Pizza.

Entering the pizza shop I looked around noticing what looks to be a high school football team. "I wonder what the occasion is," I mumble.

"Yeah," Mom replies.

"Welcome to Tony's pizza, how may I help you?"

"Hi, we'll take a medium pepperoni mushroom please."

"Anything else?"

"Nope, that's good."

"That'll be $12.75. To stay or to go?"

"To go." Mom paid for dinner then we waited.

While we waited I headed outside for fresh air as it got stuffy inside. Leaning against the car a girl walked out of the pizza shop whom I didn't notice before. Her cheerleader outfit, which I assume, displays her perfect hourglass body with her wavy blonde hair tied in a high ponytail. Her outfit is mostly red with a white stripe that crosses across her chest to meet in the middle with a black rectangle that surrounds the schools' name. Her skirt is a red and black pattern that matches her top. Not realizing that I was staring at her when she snapped her fingers to allure my attention from her outfit to her stunning face.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a lesbian but I do admire her beauty. "What are you staring at?"

"Nothing."

"No, it's clearly not nothing. You are admiring how beautiful I look. Wishing you had my beauty," she flicked her ponytail.

"No actually I don't. I'm fine the way I look and I certainly don't dream of having someone else's beauty."

She gawks at my answer.

"Who do you think you are?"

"A person."

"Wait . . . I haven't seen you around here. Are you new?"

"No, I've been living here my whole life but no one ever noticed me because I stick to the shadows."

"So you are new."

"Yes I am."

"That explains why I didn't recognize you."

"No shit."

"Since you're new, I'll give you a little slack, but to warn you to never mess with me."

"Why should I never mess with you?"

"Because I'm a nasty girl with a fit boyfriend who isn't afraid of fights. He's put people in hospitals."

"Oh I'm so scared." I shook my hands in "fright."

"Well I'm warning you."

"Okay, well that's good to know."

"You'll need it, new girl."

At that possible moment one of the football players walked out with the pizza box. "Hey baby," he kissed her, noting mentally to not interact with this guy. One, she would kill me forever looking at this guy and second, I wouldn't mess with this guy as he looks like he could beat ass. I stare at the ground not wanting to make enemies when I haven't even been here for twenty four hours yet.

"Well we've got to go, see you around the new girl," she waves, smirking. Soon enough, all of the other teammates crowd out the small door with Mom trailing behind them.

"Finally, that took awhile."

"Yeah."

"I saw you talking to a girl. Did you already make your first friend?" She smiles and talks in a child-ish voice.

"I'm not six, and no she's not my friend."

"Well why not?"

"She doesn't even seem the friendly type."

"Don't judge her, she could be really friendly."

"Right." Threatening me seems really friendly.

We got into the car heading back into our new home.
