Chapter five
I'm getting ready for the game tonight. I'm not excited but to make my parents happy, mostly my mother, I'm going. I don't know if Rudy's going as I have no way of contacting him, so I'll be there by myself as far as I know. I put on a hoodie and jeans for comfort since it'll be chile. I tie my hair in a messy bun not caring one damn bit about it.
Grabbing money, my phone and earbuds I make my way downstairs ready to head out. My parents are working so it's just me in the house. Grabbing the house key I left for the game with a water bottle in hand. Luckily the school isn't too far from home, it's only a fifteen minute walk. Plugging in my earbuds I listen to music on the way to school and admire the town. It's a cute town I say, all the old school buildings that are small. Reminds me of the early twentieth century towns.
The stores aren't big either. After living here for a week I've been growing to like it here. Although I wouldn't say the same with the citizens. A few are nice enough to us but most gives us the dirty look like we've done something wrong. I usually wouldn't care but this is a small town where everyone basically knows each other, so it does bother me a bit. However, Quinn doesn't bother me at all. I've been watching my back and being careful when she strikes. I have a feeling that she may strike tonight. Even now when I'm walking to school I've been looking back ever so often. It bothers me that she's targeting me after I've done nothing wrong to her. It wasn't until the five hundredth time that I noticed someone in a long black cloak following me. The hood is over the head so it's difficult to tell who it looks like.
The cloak covers the whole body so I can't tell what gender they are. Turning around I pretend not to notice them but ever so slightly I pick up the pace. Another couple minutes then I should be there. I turn around again, this time the person is closer than before. Turning back I pick up the pace finally seeing the school as my heart races from all of the possibilities that could occur.
I could be raped or kidnapped or possibly die from them. I didn't want to run as they'll know I notice them. I speed walk to the school yard where everyone else is walking around to the football field. Upon hearing footsteps over my music coming closer my adrenaline gets the better of me when I jog into the crowd disappearing from him. When I check to see if they're following I see no cloak. Breathing out, I follow the crowd to the stadium.
I walk in the stadium to the students finding their seats for the game. I go near the middle on the aisle seat playing games on my phone as I wait for the game to begin. I didn't notice when people stood beside me just waiting there when I glanced up to Quinn and Derrick standing there glaring at me. "Can I help you with something?"
"Yeah, I want to let you know that what you did yesterday wasn't cool. I would watch your back if I were you," Quinn snapped.
"Look queen bee, I'm not scared of you or your boyfriend. I'd watch your back if I were you," I retorted, even though I won't do anything.
"Look, no one messes with my girl and gets away with it."
"That's nice. Someone bumped into me and my coffee spilled. So what? Get over yourself."
I turn back to my game when I feel my sweater being lifted and soon enough I'm off the ground with my sweater in his fist.
"I'd punch you if I could. But this is my game and I wouldn't let you ruin it."
"I'm not ruining it. You're the one who's ruining it by bothering me."
"Don't talk to me like that."
"What's your name, new girl?" Quinn asks.
"Marilyn Monroe."
"Really?" she asks, hanging on my words.
"It's actually Jayleen Hensley."
"Well Jayleen, we're going to make your life a living hell."
Derrick drops me onto the seats and leaves me going back to his team. Quinn on the other hand sits behind me and I'm staring at her in confusion.
"What?"
"Aren't you going to cheer on your boyfriend?"
"Not today. Our cheer squad is just watching the game cheering from here in the stands."
"Okay."
I sit on my seat again picking up my phone and continue playing my game. Voices are heard from behind me when I turn to see the rest of the cheer squad sitting with Quinn with nachos and drinks.
They set up when I ignore them when the game finally begins. Let's hope it goes well and they won't do anything.
-
The game went well when the winning score was 34-19. The game is better than I expected. My worry is what Quinn is planning. I don't really know how football works, I'm more of a soccer player.
As the breaks come to an end, I hear giggling from the cheer squad. Rolling my eyes I don't think much of it when I feel something hot and sticky being poured on my head. I realize that it's the nachos when their drinks are also being poured on me. I stand up feeling embarrassed and fuming with anger. I turn around ready to curse at them when laughter rings out as everyone pulls out their phones and takes pictures of me.
"Oops. Sorry Jayleen. I thought it was the trash can," Quinn replies giggling and pulling out her phone.
I stood up looking around me to everyone laughing and taking pictures or videos of me. Quickly gathering my things I ran out of there with nachos and the drinks spilling everywhere. I walked as fast as I could to get home.
Once I'm home I take off my sweater and shirt immediately throwing them in the washer. Luckily my parents aren't home yet. I take a shower wanting the smell and feelling of the stickiness and heat gone. I couldn't believe she did that. I mean, she couldn't think of anything else to get me back? Seriously now?
I take a moment to think about what the fuck just happened. I was sitting there enjoying the game and then I got food poured all over me.
Well Quinn, if you want to play dirty, I'll play dirty.
When I'm done showering, I put fresh clothes on and head down stairs. At least now I can continue working on my room. Grabbing my wallet I walked downstairs into the kitchen when I stopped dead in my tracks. I almost screamed but kept myself collected when a man in a long black cloak sat at my dinner table.
I dropped my wallet walking back when he glanced up at me locking gazes.
"You're- You-re the same guy who followed me earlier!" I shrieked pointing at him.
"Indeed."
"Why and wh-who . . . Who the fuck ar-are y-you?" I stammered.
He smirked standing up when I rushed towards the door but he stopped me.
"I wouldn't run if I were you." His voice is deep and angelic. Anyone could listen to him for hours but I refused to let him control me.
"And why not?" I ask slowly, looking back at him.
"Because I can hurt you in seconds. You see, Jayleen, You can't outrun me."
"How the fuck do you know my name?" I ask astonished, fully turning towards him.
"I know everything. There's not one thing that I don't know."
"You didn't answer my question. Who the fuck are you?"
"I'm a dealer, and I've come to make a deal with you."
"Why?"
"Oh don't worry about that."
"What do you mean?"
He shakes his head waving his hand to come closer. Hesitantly, I slowly walk closer to him until I stop a foot away from him. "Why don't we go back to the dinner table to have a little chat?"
I don't move. I have so many questions right now but I don't have the urge to ask him. I slowly make my way to the table and he follows. I take a seat and he takes a seat in front of me. "Alright, what are you doing here?"
"Like I said, I came to make a deal with you." I nod once allowing him to proceed. "Three deals actually. This is how it works. I give you three contracts and you sign all three, but you don't have to. You can sign two or one, your choice. Once you sign at least one, I protect you from any harm that comes your way until the time comes you no longer need protection."
"So, like a guardian angel."
"Kind of, but not quite."
"Okay." I'm still hesitant about this.
"I wanted to make a deal with you earlier but you ran away from me."
"Because I didn't know who you were."
He waves his hand ignoring me and three contracts appear. "This first one," he begins, bringing the first contract to the table, "If for whatever odd reason we sleep together and I get you pregnant, I'm not responsible whatsoever."
"Why would we sleep together if you're just protecting me?"
"You wouldn't believe how many dealers sleep with the mortals."
"There's more?"
"You think there's just me? Fuck no. There's a lot of us dealers out there looking for mortals to deal with."
"So you're saying you're not an angel but a demon praying on innocent mortals that makes deals?"
"Yes, we make deals to survive."
"Uh-huh. Okay."
"Anyways, the next one-"
"Wait, how come you're not responsible if I become pregnant."
"It's usually the mortals who want to sleep with the dealers and they refuse to use protection. Also, sometimes condoms break. So Satan just proposed that we don't take responsibility."
"So you leave them to suffer?"
"Yeah. They're no use to us anymore after a while. No point in helping them. They brought that upon themselves."
"Oh great."
"Don't worry, just don't do it with me and you'll be fine. Anyways, the next contract," he brings down the next one, "is basically what I said before. I protect you and reign hell on everyone who dares hurt you. Seeing them suffer is the fun part. Especially when they hurt someone and karma hits them. God I love it." His eyes beamed from the thought.
"I can tell. What happens if I sign the other two but not this one?"
"Then you won't get the protection. You'll just have to suffer."
If I sign this one, then Quinn will suffer and I will laugh in the background for ever messing with me. This contract might be perfect.
"And the last one?"
"If, for whatever reason, something happens to me, Satan has your permission to pair you up with another dealer without your choosing. Whichever dealer you get is what you have to deal with."
"Define 'something happens to you'."
"If I die, I go missing, become ill or anything else that could affect me is when you'll receive a new dealer."
"Has that ever happened to anyone?"
"It did years ago which is why it's part of the deal. Now you know what the contracts are, what do you say?"
"Do I have time to think about it? It's difficult to say now."
"Of course. I'll give you two days max. If you refuse to sign or I don't hear from you, then I move onto the next person."
"Is there by any chance if I change my mind in the long run would I be able to sign?"
"Nope, this is your only chance. Once you say no, we won't bother you again and you'll continue living like you were before." I nod understanding the situation. I definitely want to sign the second contract but I'm not sure about the other two. I mean, I could sign the second and that's it but what if something does happen to him? I won't be protected unless I sign the third. I doubt it'll happen but I never know. Same with the pregnancy. I'm not interested but who knows what the future will be.
"I'll think about it."
"Two days and then I want your answer."
"Also, what do you get in return? I know you're not making deals without something in return." He smirked knowing I would ask that.
"I knew you would. I can tell you're a smart one. I would take your soul."
"What would happen afterwards once you're done with me?"
"Oh you'll have to see."
He disappeared leaving me to decide. What the fuck just occured?
