The most notorious of these monarchs was King Sol. Upon his coronation he instigated a widespread Inquisition. Reversers, Dolittlers, and other minorities were persecuted of course, but also some of the king's closest advisors – even members of the royal family. In three years he burned over a thousand people at the stake. An obsessive gambler, in 2492 he staked his own life on a penny cockfight in the riverside slums. He lost, and promptly immolated himself. King Sol was, if nothing else, a man of his word.
