10.

Once I arrived to my run-down apartment building, I rushed pass the main office, up 15 flights of stairs, and to apartment. My backpack fell from my shoulders to my right hand, dropping it as I lazily flopped onto my bed, letting a deep sigh," Another eventful day..."

I sat up on my bed, leaning against the bed frame as I reached into my pocket for my phone. I swiped it open, going onto Angelina's contact. Since all I had to do was homework, I pressed the face time button as it began to ring.

It took a moment for Angelina to pick up, but when she did, she seemed to be in a panic," Lucifer? What is it?" She asked, her voice low as a whisper.

" I just wanted to call since I was bored." I answered casually, trying not to act worried.

" I can't talk right now..." She replied, looking up from her screen, as if she was checking if the coast was clear.

   " Hey, are you-"

" ANGELINA! Where are you!?"A deep voiced boomed from the other end, causing even me to jump up with surprise and fear," Who are you talking to?!"

" Father, I can explain..." She said, looking back up at her screen as she held onto her charm necklace tightly.

" No excuses! I've told you to never touch her things!" Her father shouted, his voice filled with rage.

Angelina's face was paler than usual, tears forming in the corners of her eyes. I could hear steps come towards her," Father wait-!"

" Angelina!" I shouted, but the call had ended, leaving me starring at a black screen. I felt worry build up in my chest,"...What just happened..?"

I got up from my bed, pacing back an forth in my small apartment. I tried to make sense of what just happened, why was Angelina's dad so furious?

-----

It had been a couple of hours since the call, and I could barely do anything but worry. By now, the sun had already set, and the city glowed with all the street lights.

It was a pretty sight to see from my window, but I of course, took no notice of it as I stared at my blank phone screen.

I had finally decided to call her again, hoping she'd pick up and be alright. God...I'm just so worried she's hurt, her Father sounds like a maniac.

The phone began to ring once more on Face Time. Why face time you may ask? Because I need to see her face, I need to see if she's really alright, and knowing her - which is only a little - she seems to hide her pain with her smile, so that no one can worry about her.

How do I know this? Because I see the pain in her eyes, a smile can hide someone's pain like a mask hides a persons face.

"Come on, Come on. Pick up the damn phone." I growled in frustration," I swear, I'll find where you live and check on you myself if I have to."

   Connecting...

I bang my head on my bed frame as the phone continued to ring," Agghhh..." I moaned," Pick up the phone....!"

As if on cue, Angelina picked up the phone. From where I could see, I was placed on a nightstand or small desk since my view of Angelina was her on her king side bed.

Though her room was dark, I could perfectly make out Angelina flawless figure. She wore a white t-shirt that revealed her arms to me, and what I could tell, her arms had in fact faded scars and bruises. Her crystal blue eyes shinning through the darkness, but they seemed red as if she had been crying " Hey Lucifer..." She greeted in a small tone,"..what's up?"

" What's up?! You had me worried!" I scolded, raising my voice," What the hell happened?!"

She let out a sad sigh, looking away from the screen," I-It's nothing, really..." She responded, turning her body to the right, showing her left arm to me, not on purpose though.

I felt my heart stop at what I saw....

Her left arm was bruised badly above her elbow, little bits of dry blood still on it," What's that?" I questioned, my voice stern as I spoke to her," your arm, what happened?"

She quickly covered it with her right hand," I bumped into a wall..." Angelina replied, not making eye contact with me.

" You're lying..." I stated, my voice filled with little bits of rage," I know that you are, so tell me the truth."

" It is the truth..!" She protested, getting herself worked up," I bumped into a wall, ok?!"

' She won't admit it...' I thought, knowing I'd get no where already," Fine." I sighed," I believe you..."

" Thank you.." She replied, giving me a warm smile through the phone.

" Yeah," I said, sitting up more on my bed," Well, it late, so you better get to bed..."

I could see she was sad, but nodded," Alright, you get to bed too." She replied, picking up the phone to bring it closer to her.

" Ok, goodnight Angel." I said, giving her a small smile as she blushed a light shade of pink.

" G-Goodnight.." She said, bring her lips to the camera, kissing me through the phone," Sleep tight..."

I nodded as she hung up on me, I felt my face burn up. I shoved one of my pillows into my face," She'll be the death of me..." I moaned again as I laid down on my bed, holding the phone on my chest.

I drifted off to sleep with the thoughts of Angelina swimming through my head.

-----

I awoke the next morning to the sound of my alarm clock. To most people, it meant they had to go to work or school, but for me this morning, I get to see Angelina again.

I had gotten dress in a black and white flannel, a pair of jeans, and a beanie. I walked toward the kitchen, grabbing some fruit to eat while I walked to school.

I wasn't mainly going to school for Angelina, I had to ask her about her arm, in private.

-----

Once I arrived at school, I immediately began to search for Angelina. It was easy for me to find because she was always seemed to have a bright arua around her, making her light up like a beacon in the darkness.

' Where is she?' I thought as I walked down the hallways of the school in a fast pace. Finally, a familiar laugh caught my attention.

I swung my head towards where I heard the angelic voice come from, and there, I saw Angelina standing strait next to her locker, wearing a blue long sleeve while she laughed at one of Kate's jokes.

Her face was so bright when she laughed that it made my heart flutter a bit, but I shook off the feeling as I made my way towards them.

" Kate that was-" Angelina stopped mid-sentence when she noticed my presence, then smiled,"Good morning Lucifer!"

I didn't smile back," Can we talk?" I asked, cutting right to the chase.

" About what?" Kate questioned, her arms folded on her chest as she stood protectively in front of Angelina.

" Kate, it's fine," Angelina reassured, placing her hand gently on Kate's shoulder.

Kate grumbled something under her breath before speaking again," I'll see you after class Angelina." And with that, she walked off, leaving me and Angelina together at her locker.

" So what do you want to talk about?" Angelina asked, tilting her head a bit as she stared at me with curious eyes.

" Follow me." I stated, grabbing gently on her right arm, making sure I didn't squeeze her wound that she got yesterday. I began to pull her towards the field area. I could tell Angelina was a bit nervous by how tense her arm was, and I wanted to smile at her in reassurance, but I knew it would be misleading by the conversation we were about to have.

I pushed open the glass doors to the chatty field area. But instead on heading to the willow tree, I turned left to the other side of the school building," Lucifer? Where are we going?" Angelina asked, as I stayed silent.

Once I made sure no one was around, I let go of Angelina's arm, turning around to face her. I pulled up her left sleeve to reveal her bloody bruise, which looked like she hadn't taken care of it yet," What happened?" I questioned in a stern voice.

" I-I told you, I bumped into a wall yesterday..." She protested, trying to rip her arm out of my grip, but failed.

I brought her arm closer to me, lifting up my other hand to slowly trace my fingers over it. Angelina whimpered in pain," You should have taken care of this, it infected now...." I stated with a serous tone," tell me what happened."

She shook her head," I can't tell you..." She replied, tears swelling in her eyes. I felt anger boil in me, I pushed Angelina against the brick wall on the school building roughly, but not rough enough to hurt her.

" You're lying! Tell me the truth!" I yelled, my face red with rage. She kept shaking her head no as tears slid down her cheeks.

By now, I had lose control of my anger. My free hand went up and squeezed her wound, she cried out in pain, tears streaming down her face as she fell to the floor.

It took me a moment till I realized what I just did, I took a step away from her in fear of myself," I-I'm so sorry..." I mumbled, looking down in shame.

   ' I hurt her... I'm truly a-'

" I-Its alright..." I heard Angelina say, causing my head to shoot up in surprise. Angelina laid on her knees as she held onto her left arm, a small smile on her face as she stared at me with teary eyes," I-I get it, you got frustrated at me, I act like a child a lot, I'm so helpless..."

She kept her gaze away from me, small tears running down her face. I sighed, kneeling down to her level," Angel, look at me." I said, gently grabbing her shoulder to make eye contact with her," You're not helpless, you've helped me, and I couldn't be more happy..."

She began to blush at my words," I'm sorry for what I did, I-I just got anger because you wouldn't tell me the truth..."

She nodded, more tears streaming down her face," I-I know...."

At that moment, Angelina dove towards me, digging her face into my chest as she began to sob," I-It was my father...!" She cried, holding tightly onto me," H-He slammed me into a wall...h-he has a bad temper..."

I wrapped my arms around her," Shh... It's alright..." I cooed, rubbing her back to help her calm down," Why would he do this to you?"

" I-I remind him to much of my mother..." she whimpered, holding onto me tightly.

She kept her head on my chest," H-He got mad at me because I wore one of Mother's necklaces yesterday..." She began," H-He was never liked this before, he was so kind. B-But now, he's so distant and cold, an when he does talk to me, he only scolds me...."

I could feel more tears sinking into my flannel," Y-You know...I-I used to sing when I was little, and my mother, s-she said I had a voice of an angel..." She commented, a sad smile on her face as she held me," s-she would bring me to singing lessons every week, but one day, when we were heading to practice....the car went out of control and...."

I could tell she couldn't go any further," Hey, you don't have to tell me more if you don't want to..." I commented, pulling her into my lap while I rubbed her back.

She sniffled," M-My father blames me for my mother's death...a-and I'm a constant reminder of her..."

" He's insane for doing this to you..." I said, looking down a bit to see her face,"...your too kind and sweet to be treated this way.."

She smiled at me, tears still running down her face. I raised my hands and slowly whipped them away," How about we go to the nurses office to clean out your wound?" I asked.

Angelina nodded, slowly crawling off my lap and into her own feet. I got up as well, giving her a small smile before heading back inside to school, linking arms with each other as we walked.

-----

Once we reached the nurses office, I gently knocked on her door. We both heard footsteps from the other side, and when the door opened, it revealed Ms. Hill.

She had her black locks tied up in a messy bun, with her normal nurse attire," Why hello you-" she stopped once she noticed me.

She began to looked nervous, but then spotted Angelina who quietly hid behind me," Why hello Angelina, what are you doing here?" Ms. Hill asked, putting her hands in front of her.

" She has a bad bruise on her arm that needs to be cleaned." I answered for her, my face serous.

Ms. Hill gulped in fear, nodding before letting us in. She instructed Angelina to sit down at one of the stools while I stood in the corner watching.

Ms. Hill pulled up Angelina's left sleeve, and stared in shock of her wound," What is gods name did you do?" She questioned, examining Angelina's arm.

" I-I bumped into a wall while running..." Angelina answered, looking away from her.

Ms. Hill nodded, running around the room to collect her supplies she needed. She began to clean out Angelina's wound, till she noticed there was no cloth to wrap her arm in," Where did it go?" She questioned," I swore I had it yesterday..."

Angelina giggled a bit, but covered her mouth so the nurse couldn't hear. I smiled at her," I'll be right back, I must go fetch some more cloth from the main office." Ms. Hill stated as she left the room.

Once she left, the room became silent, until Angelina broke the ice," So...what time does class start?" She asked, looking over at me.

I took out my phone and checked the time. It was 7:30 meaning class would start in 5 minutes," 7:30." I replied, shoving my phone back into my pocket.

She nodded, looking back down at her hands," T-Thank you..." She mumbled, catching my attention.

" For what?" I asked, walking towards her.

" For confronting my today... It felt good to let my tears out..." She replied, smiling at me warmly," I usually never cry in front of someone, I hate making someone worry..."

I smiled," I'm glad I know more about you and was able to help you, but you did have me worried."

Angelina smiled, opening her arms up for a hug, but as I were about to accept it, the bell rang," That quick?" I questioned, looking at my phone before looking back at her," I should head to class..."

" I don't want you to be late!" Angelina chimed, smiling at me brightly," I'll see you at lunch, ok?"

" Lunch?" I questioned, my face written in confusion.

" Yeah, I want to spend so more time with you since I won't get to class till later on. Think of it as a make-up hang out!"

I smiled at her playfulness," Alright, meet you at lunch where?" I asked with a small smile.

   " The willow tree."

" Well, till then my angel."

I playfully bowed before I left the room, causing Angelina to giggle.

Once I left the room, I began to head towards Mrs. Brooks class with a bit more kick in my step," A eventful way to start my day I must say..." I said to myself.
