IV

The group finally came to the Tower, hiding away Qorvex in a dusty old corner that nobody goes behind. Everyone was worried, wondering where Drifter and Elsie were as it appeared a week had passed since they went missing. They made some things up about what happened, trying to conceal the fact that they were in another timeline of absolute absurdity. Janus was hiding in plain sight, walking around while invisible but even when he appeared people didn't pay too much attention to him, thinking that he was just another Guardian. He walked around the bazaar while the two were getting questioned and yelled at. To him, all of this was new and interesting, first time seeing Eliksni and Cabal, each interesting in their own way. It was rather peaceful and nice to see such a large city out over the horizon. It shows that things went differently here than back in their world, is it for the better or worse, that is unknown. He walked further until entering the main courtyard, in which a tree stood in a corner, near a ledge. It appeared to be just an ordinary tree, nothing special about it, but then, in the corner he spots a memorial of sorts. It is a statue of some robotic man, underneath it says Cayde-6. Must have been a revered person, liked by many. He hears a familiar voice call out to him, the woman named Elsie, but the man called the Drifter is not there.

Elsie: There you are, where have you been?

Janus: Oh, I was exploring this place. Where is Drifter?

Elsie: He is getting scolded more than me as he is a more important figure here than I am. So, how do you like it here so far?

Janus: It is, interesting. Different from our world and yet, there is a sense of familiarity to it all. Can you tell me, who this man is?

Janus points to the statue of Cayde-6.

Elsie: That was Cayde-6, the last Hunter Vanguard. He was killed by the past but now Hunter Vanguard called Crow.

Janus: What do you mean past but now? How does that make any sense?

Elsie: Well, before Crow was Crow, he was Uldren Sov, borther of Mara Sov, Queen of the Awoken. Basically, he was corrupted and killed Cayde but was killed later by the Guardians.

Janus: And was then revived by a Ghost to become a Guardian. I am guessing he is technically a new person despite his past.

Elsie: Correct. Cayde was very liked and loved, see as a saint in these terrible times and killing him brought a lot of hate. But people warmed up to Crow and have accepted him as he accepted what he did in the past.

Janus: I am guessing you are popular too?

Elsie: Why do you ask?

He points to a group of Guardians staring at them, but not out of curiosity but more of flirtation and lust. She let's out a sigh, it is nothing new to her.

Elsie: Me and Ada-1 are quite popular as you say. I don't enjoy it nor does she.

Janus: You are machines, how can anyone fall in love with a robot or lust over a robot?

Elsie: Well, we are almost the same as humans, basically, a prefect metal copy of a human. So everything is there, if you know what I mean.

Janus: Ahh, I got ya. Can you tell me more about those two species?

Janus points to a Eliksni and a Cabal that appear to be interacting with each other.

Elsie: The short one is an Eliskni, or Fallen you can call them. One of the species that were blessed by the Traveler but he abandoned them and when he came here, we sort of got into a conflict with them. These are good though. And next to him are the Cabal, they are from Princess Cailts, personal order, they allied with us not too long ago.

Janus: They look, interesting I must say. Nothing what we saw, but at the same time, not as ridiculous as I initially thought.

Janus and Elsie talk a little more before a curious Shaxx notices the two talking and comes over to see who Elsie is talking to. The figure wears strange looking armor and is about the same height as her, maybe a little taller. Janus notices the strange looking man approaching them, a broken horn on his helmet, he is rather interesting. Walk with confidence, his stature tall and regal.

Shaxx: Hello there Elsie. What bring you to the Tower? And who is this strange looking man next to you?

Elsie: Greetings Shaxx. This is Janus, Janus meet Shaxx.

Janus nods at the man and in return getting a nod back.

Elsie: We sort of got into trouble with Zavala so we got a good scolding. Drifter is still down there.

As the two talk, Janus's attention shifts to a more pressing thing. A figure who's smile can make a normal person go insane, a figure whose power and body are not known fully. But he is not scared or anything, it is not his first time nor the last time seeing him. Soon, the figure disappears, reminding him that no matter where he goes, he will always be there. He is it's child in a sort of twisted way. Finally Elsie notices that Janus is not paying attention and grabs it by waving her arm in front of him. Janus snaps from his thoughts and back to reality.

Elsie: Did you even listen to what we were talking about?

Janus: Ha?

Elsie sighs and Shaxx bursts out laughing. Hitting Janus over the shoulder, before gripping his shoulder tightly.

Shaxx: You are a funny one I must admit. I can tell that you are no slouch though. I wonder how you would fare against my Redjacks. Would you like to come over a round of crucible?

Janus: I would rather not, I am not much of a fighting man.

Those words were absolute lies. If anything, he is a purpose made machine to kill and kill. A walking crime that will put anything down if it has to.

Shaxx: Well, if you ever change your mind, do come over and contact me. I can arrange a good fight just for you.

Janus: Alright. Thanks I guess?

Shaxx: Haha. Well, I must leave you two love birds, I have some work to do. Good luck on the date.

Elsie yells at him before he runs off, laughing like a maniac. She let's out a sigh of frustration. Finally, Drifter joins them, looking tired as hell. Together they head to a bar in the city where each of them orders a drink. As Janus drinks he savors the drink, an alcoholic strong drink is always welcome when it comes to his preferences. They chat and laugh, telling about their experiences with this Zavala person. Drifter tells Janus more about this world, the enemies of theirs and about the Traveler. This being, the Traveler is interesting, truly interesting. But, comparing it to the Man in The Wall, it isn't as absurd as he initially thought. Drink after drink, they talk and talk. Exchanging stories about their lives and so on, Janus stays as secretive as he can and as vague as possible. And after talking they go out in the city, to take a stroll, like good buddies would. The city is filled with people, young and old, with strange looking beasts that are treated like pets. There are robots that clean the streets, people going from and to work. For Janus, it is all refreshing, the bustling streets are awry with sound and chatter. Occasional song coming from a bar or cafe, adding to the ambience. As the night closes they return to the Tower, Drifter having to go and deal with some trouble that occurred during a Gambit match. Some Guardians got into an argument and they caused quite a bit of trouble. Janus had grown restless, he wants to explore this world by himself. So, he grabs a moment and flees away from Elsie and as she enters pursuit. He jumps of a ledge and she gasps, seeing him going down quickly. He simply however just enters his Void form and safely lands on the concrete bellow. Out of nowhere a motorcycle forms, Janus jumping on it and speeding through the bustling streets. People quickly moving away as not to get run over, some cursing some screaming. He feels a thrill in this dangerous stuns. Looking back however, he sees Elsie riding on some sort of hoverboard with another Guardian. They enter a chase, like cops and robbers. Janus finds thrill in this, weaving in and out of traffic and navigating the maze of streets. While they might know these streets better, he still has the speed advantage over them. And soon, he looses them on the open road.

Turning off the main road and into a part of the city that appears to have been damaged by some previous conflict. There are people that live in these ruins, they wear rags and all in various states of famine. Slowly driving through he finally stops when a bunch of people form a roadblock in front of him. They all armed with pipes and wrenches. Looking like a bunch of thugs.

Thug 1: That is a nice looking ride you got.

Janus: Thank you.

Thug 1: How about you give us?

Janus: And why would I do that?

Thug 2: Because, otherwise, you are going to get a beating. Now, don't act like a smartass, just hand it over.

Janus let's out a sigh as when he looked back, he noticed that he is surrounded. Getting off the bike it just disappears. The thugs all look shocked and confused.

Thug 1: How the hell did you do that?

Janus: Magic. Now, can you let me go? I don't wanna deal with your bullshit right now.

Thug 1: Well, you ain't going nowhere. This is our territory and you must pay a fine for going here.

Janus: Why the hell would I have to pay a fine for going through a shithole?

Thug 1: Otherwise, you are going to have your head smashed in. Now, give us all you have that is of value.

Janus: I am sorry, but I won't.

Thug 1: Not an easy motherfucker. Get him boys.

They charge at Janus, but he simply disappears out of their view. They start to look around, but he appears soon behind one of the thugs, knocking them out with a good punch. He does so many times over, causing fear and panic amongst the thugs. Janus is more of a military person, trained for all sorts of combats and situations. Beating up these people is so fun and satisfying for him. Finally, after knocking out most of them, he is left with one, the leader.

Thug 1: W-what are you?

Janus: The devil you can say. Come on, where is that confidence? Did it run away?

Thug 1: You are a coward! Ahhh.

The thug charges forward, his pipe up high, ready to strike. But as he swings down Janus blocks it with his hand, not even flinching, no sign of pain. With a punch infused with Void energy he delivers it straight into the abdomen of the poor bastard. With a power that is not normal he punches him hard, blood spewing out of the bastards mouth. He dies on the spot, the blood going all over Janus and Janus simply let's the body fall onto the ground. Elsie arrives, shocked to see knocked out thugs and Janus covered in blood.

Janus: I am tired a little, where will I be staying over?

He walks past her, she is simply stunned, doesn't know what to say. There is anger, fear and disbelief. This Janus guy is more trouble than she originally thought. She looks at the dead guy, there is a massive mark on his abdomen of a fist, a burn of sorts. But it is not light, there is a small remnant that soon dissipates of the strange energy she saw from the gateway they went through. She will have to question him a lot, but for now, she needs to find a spot for him to stay at.
