#2: Pilot Chapter

_Amadeus: Alright then, Alexis, how about you tell your version of the story?

_Alexis: Uh? Right now? You sure?

_Amadeus: That is the reason why you are here, after all. Master Lucifer claims you are guilty of violating your contract, and as the accused, you have every right to prove the contrary. Now go ahead, talk in front of our jury made of the wisest demons that have ever lived in Hell, and tell us your story with Master Lucifer from your perspective.

_Alexis: ...

_Amadeus: But let me warn you, the moment we feel either doubts or lies inside your soul, we will not hesitate to welcome you... TO HELL.

_Alexis: Y-yes, your honor...

_Amadeus: Good, now go ahead, please walk to the witness stand.

The escorts lead Alexis to a platform placed in the middle of the court and in front of Amadeus. There, a microphone is placed in front of him. He stares at the red sky and all the demons in the court, waiting for him to talk, including Lucifer. He then looks at his severed arm, exhales dramatically, and gains confidence. Determination is visible in his eyes!

_Alexis: (It's all or nothing)

...I...I met Lucifer, four years ago...

It was in Barcelona, Spain, my hometown, in a place called "La Rambla" ...

As Alexis says "It was in Barcelona", transition to the official beginning of the story. "La Rambla" is a popular street in Barcelona that is 1km long. There, street artists of all kind perform for tourists, in exchange for tips to maintain their lives. This includes musicians singing and playing all types of instruments, as well as "human statues". Human statues are art performers who either wear costumes or paint their body and clothes to look like authentic statues, and then people pay them to be allowed to take pictures with them.

On one location, there's a long avenue filled with painters and portrait artists exhibiting and selling their works. And not just that, many of them offer services to draw people's portraits from start to finish, using customers as live models.

(Draw what I described with many examples. Make them feel charming and lively.)

Among the many portrait artists sitting on their benches, Alexis is alone and happily drawing the portrait of an unknown person. However, something is very odd about the situation. With a zoom out and focus panels, reveal that only Alexis isn't attending to any customer at that moment.

Show footsteps, and make Lucifer enter the scene, still looking like a kid wearing a suit. He looks around the many artists, then focuses on Alexis, who seems to be drawing something. Lucifer approaches him and sees a portrait.

_Lucifer: Oh, that's very cute, sir! Who is that in the drawing?

_Alexis: Ah? Oh... oh hello there kiddo! What, this? Nah, it's just a random drawing I'm doing right now, I always must keep my hands well trained and ready for the next person to come and ask me for a portrait. Say, would you like one?

_Lucifer: Uh? Why, why me?

_Alexis: I mean, why not, right? I'm practicing, and if you're free right now...

_Lucifer: But I don't have any money.

_Alexis: Nah it's fine, like I would ever charge a kid. Come on, I'll also give you the drawing when I'm done, I won't keep it.

_Lucifer: ...Uhm...well... papa and mama will take a long time to arrive so...

_Alexis: Awesome! Thank you for believing in me, kiddo, you won't regret it! Now please do me a favor and sit on that chair.

_Lucifer: Yes mister...uhm, mister...

_Alexis: Alexis Lozano, nice to meet you! (extends his hand)

_Lucifer: Mr. Alexis Lozano, yes. (Both shake hands)

(Next Scene)

After forty minutes of Lucifer standing still and letting Alexis draw him, he finally finishes and shows the result. The portrait is very well done, but it looks a little cartoonish.

_Alexis: Here you go! How is it, do you like it?

_Lucifer: (Grabs the portrait) Oh wow, amazing, Mr. Alexis! I'm impressed, you truly are an artist!

_Alexis: Hahaha, thanks, thanks a lot kiddo, those words truly mean a lot to me!

_Lucifer: No, really, I mean it, I can't believe you're an artist!

I CAN'T BELIEVE AN ARTIST COULD EVER DRAW SOMETHING SO BAD!

Silence, Alexis raises his eyebrows and is surprised, but he doesn't look angry.

_Lucifer: Haha, there's no doubt that "La Rambla" is a place full of rejected artists, people clearly pay them only because they feel pity.

_Alexis: ...

_Lucifer: But you know, when I came for a walk around here, I looked at all the other portrait artists around you, and realized you were the only one without a customer!

(Lucifer rips the portrait in half, and throws what he ripped into the floor)

DON'T YOU SEE? IT MEANS THAT YOU ARE SO WORTHLESS, YOU DON'T EVEN DESERVE FOR OTHERS TO FEEL PITY FOR YOU!

Lucifer takes the other half that remained on the clipboard where the portrait was and leaves it on the ground as well. Alexis looks at Lucifer with curiosity.

_Lucifer: Give me a piece of paper and your pen, I bet I can draw my portrait better than you did.

_Alexis: Sure, why not?

Alexis hands him a sheet and his pencil. Lucifer begins to draw in front of him and doesn't let him see his drawing process, not even the reader can see what he is doing.

(Final Scene)

Twenty minutes pass, they haven't moved from their positions. Lucifer is still drawing.

_Alexis: (intrigued) I'm really wondering how you're going to make a self-portrait without looking at a picture or something like that.

_Lucifer: It's fine, I know my face very well, it'll be easy, you'll see!

_Alexis: Hmph, seeing is believing, I guess.

_Lucifer: ...(silence)...What's wrong, did I hurt your feelings perhaps, by what I said?

_Alexis: My feelings? Uhm, no, not really.

_Lucifer: ...(silence) It's a beautiful lie, isn't it? to believe that you're happy, but you just don't want to accept that you're mediocre, and lazy.

_Alexis: ...? Kiddo, what are you talking about? If you're trying to insinuate something, let me tell you that I feel VERY HAPPY here on the streets. It's a pleasing place, and the City Council of Barcelona has helped us artists a lot by letting us work here.

_Lucifer: They only do it so that you don't become criminals, that's all.

_Alexis: ...I mean, even if that's true, they still help us a lot, don't you think?

_Lucifer: Haha, you're funny, you always find an excuse to believe that you're happy.

_Alexis: ...?

_Lucifer: From the moment humans are born, we are born incomplete, imperfect beings. No matter how much we try, there will always be something, something we don't have. From the poor, to the rich, all humans always feel a void in their hearts. Therefore...

THE HUMAN RACE WILL NEVER BE HAPPY

As Lucifer says this, he stops drawing and turns around the clipboard to reveal the drawing. The drawing is far more detailed and realistic than Alexis's!

_Alexis: (Comedic face) WHAT THE?! IT'S ALMOST LIKE A PHOTO! HOW, HOW?!

_Lucifer: (Hands the drawing) Here, for you, I hope this makes you feel happy.

_Alexis: (Stares in shock) No, no way, that's impossible, barely half an hour has passed, and yet you did something like this. Hey... HEY KID, WHO TAUGHT YOU HOW TO...

When Alexis raises his head, he realizes that the kid is gone. Confused and astonished, he stands up, desperately looks around and walks to the center of the street, but it's useless. The final shot is a one-page panel of the crowded street, with Alexis at the center.

_Alexis: Kid, Kiddo? Where did you go? How are you so talented?
