Chapter One
"This just is not going to work." My best friend Amanda scowled at my lame attempt at putting together a decent outfit. Of course this was a routine thing. I try to make myself look nice and Amanda comes in and basically tells me I look like an idiot. It's really not that I have crap clothes or anything, because all of my clothes are decently expensive and brand name, I just can't match anything together to save my life. Give me a kitchen and a random assortment of food and I will make you a delicious meal but I just don't have that kind of luck with clothing.
"I tried." I stated lamely to her. "Honestly, I thought this one would be okay."
"Delanie Amanda Swift if you think that this," she gestured to my outfit "is suitable for a Jason Breeze party, you are out of your freaking mind!" Amanda stomped her heeled foot on my carpet and began digging through my over flowing closet.
She already looked amazing for the party in her black sequined KARV dress and glittering black pumps. Compared to my black tights and dark green off the shoulder top, with no kind of wow factor to it, I could see how I was a wee bit under dressed. Amanda had her bright red hair done in perfect curls that rested just on her D sized breasts. At least she rarely complained about my dark brown and blonde hair, straightening it was one of my favorite past times so it was usually presentable. My brother James always said he was shocked that my hair hadn't fried up and fallen out yet.
As I was hit in the face with a bright pink dress, I heard my phone going off somewhere in my room. My room that looked like a tornado had gone flying through it. The cream-colored carpet was hardly noticeable under all the clothes that Amanda had just thrown everywhere and I had no idea where I had set down my phone. I followed the muffled sound of my ring tone and eventually found my iPhone in the mess of blankets on my queen sized bed.
"Who was that and put that freaking dress on already!" Amanda demanded.
"It was Cali." I responded as I pulled the black tights off my legs. There was no need to tell Amanda to turn around or go into the bathroom to change. We had been best friends our entire lives we had seen all there was to see of each other, for heaven's sake we had taken baths together until we were nine years old.
Amanda dialed our friend Cali's number and tapped her foot impatiently as I shimmied into the hot pink strapless dress.
"Aha!" she exclaimed. "I knew that would look perfect with your tan, all that sweating in the sun this summer paid off! You look hot."
'Thanks darlin, but you can't see me.' Cali's voice chimed from the speaker on Amanda's iPhone.
"I'm with Delanie, are you almost here?" Amanda sounded impatient as always.
'Pulling up now bitches.'
Just as we heard the words through the phone, we heard the honking of her red mustang convertible outside my house and through the phone. Before heading out, I took one last look in my full-length mirror. The pink dress did look good with my tanned skin, and my makeup looked fabulous as it usually did. That was the one thing I prided myself in, being able to do my makeup like I was getting ready for a photo shoot. It was one of the few talents I possessed.
"Top up." I commanded when I got into the back seat of Cali's beautiful car. "I didn't straighten my hair for nothing." As the top came up over our heads Amanda took in Cali's outfit and surprisingly, she had nothing bad to say about it. The white and black dress was simple enough and the white belt around her waist complemented her petite frame nicely. Her blonde hair was back combed to the fullest, and she looked ready to party the night away.
"So first Jason Breeze party of the year. Stoked?" Amanda questioned.
"Hell yeah!" Cali and I chimed together.
"First Jason Breeze party of our last year of High School." Cali corrected as she weaved through the small amount of traffic on the road. We lived in a small, rich town called Selesity so it didn't take long for us the reach the throng of partygoers trying to find a parking spot close to the Breeze estate. Cali smoothly parked in-between two extremely expensive cars and followed the crowd heading up to the huge house.
The Breeze's were one of the richest families living in Selesity therefore making Jason Breeze the most popular guy at Selesity High. Their house was located in the most luxurious part of Selesity and it was breathtaking. Most of the walls were actually huge glass windows that let in a ton of sunlight that sparkled like diamonds off of their marble floors. A large deck wrapped around the entire upper floor of the house, giving an amazing view of their gardens and guest house. Everything inside of the home was clean and modern, my guess was they must have at least ten maids.
As we walked through the front doors a huge smile ran across my face when I saw the abundance of alcohol sitting on a huge table placed in the main foyer. That makes me sound like an alcoholic but I'm really not, I just like not having to pay for it. I guess if that makes me an alcoholic, then lock me up. Besides, what's a teenage girl to do besides get drunk and go to parties on the weekend? There's nothing else to do in Selesity besides go to the library and that's just not my definition of a good time.
"Holy hell, you guys." Amanda straightened up and perked her chest out unnecessarily. "It's Matt Walker."
What can I tell you about Matt James Walker? Hmmm? Pretty much that he is a two-timing player that ripped Amanda's heart out and stomped it to a bloody pulp in our first year at Selesity High. The blonde headed, muscle laden jock from hell was as cocky as they came and I hated him for what he did to the girls he dated. I never understood why girls kept going out with him when they knew all he was after was a one-night stand. It's pathetic how some girls in Selesity desperately seek attention from the infamous Matt Walker. The way I see it, if a guy cheats on my best friend after convincing her to give up her virginity to him he deserves to have his balls chopped off and fed to him for dinner.
"Amanda, get over that pig." I scolded her. Why she even bothered mentioning his presence was a mystery to me. You could hardly miss the gang of girls trailing behind him giggling like horny fools.
"I am over him." she replied after taking a gulp of her Corona. "He's like a walking STD." We all laughed because it was undoubtedly true.
As I poured three Vodka shots into the small plastic shot glasses on the table, I heard some murmuring behind me and turned around to see what Amanda and Cali were whispering about. That's when I saw him for the very first time.
Dark black hair cascaded around his tanned perfect face, which was illuminated by his emerald green eyes. I scanned over his body and prayed to God I wasn't drooling. Every single muscle was emphasized by the tight plain white shirt he wore under his black leather jacket that probably cost more than my entire outfit put together, twice. I recognized his dark wash jeans as Armani's right away, only because my brother had recently flaunted a pair of them in my face the week before. Everything from the silver chain around his neck to the shine of his white Gucci shoes made him look like such a player.
One thing you should know about me, I do not have time for players. As hot as this guy was I knew I would never give him the time of day, not that he would want it from me, anyway. Guys like that always go for girls he knows he can get with. Girls like Stacy Lockart. She was one of the biggest whores in Selesity High, no doubt she would be all over this guy as soon as she laid eyes on him.
"Damn." Amanda and Cali said together. Leave it to my two best friends to not notice how much of a player a guy is, I guess they didn't have as much experience in that department as I did.
"Are you kidding me? He has player written all over him!"
"Delanie, you can't just judge like that!" Cali scolded me.
"Uh, yeah, actually I can. I would bet you one hundred dollars that he hooks up with at least three girls tonight, one of them being Stacy Lockart." Cali debated taking the bet but she knew better than to ignore my judgment. I was usually right about these things. I was right about Matt Walker and look how well that turned out for Amanda. Note my sarcasm.
"Jayden you fuck I didn't think you would make it!" I recognized the voice of Jason Breeze and turned to see him squeezing through a crowd of people in the living room. Jason was cute and surprisingly down to earth for being so filthy rich. His blonde hair was always a mess, but it looked good that way. He had perfect white teeth and an adorable smile that would make any girl's heart skip a beat or two. We weren't good friends or anything but I was on a first name basis with him, our parents became close when they realized how much they both loved making money.
When Jayden, the now identified stranger, smiled at Jason, I was almost knocked to my knees. His smile was adorable and disarming. This guy was amazingly good looking and his brilliant, straight, white smile only made him look even more attractive. Shit, the thing worse than a player is a gorgeous player. The type of guy that can get you to take your top off with just one sexy look, that's what this guy seemed like.
"It's good to see you, Bro."
Wait. Did he mean that literally, I thought to myself. Cali, Amanda and I were staring at the pair of boys standing only a few feet from us when the vodka bottle I had completely forgotten about slid from my hands and crashed to the floor. My heart nearly stopped as Jason and Jayden both turned to see what I had broken. When my eyes met Jayden's I looked away quickly and turned my back to him.
"Delanie you are so lucky that bottle was mostly empty, that would have been alcohol abuse." Jason joked with me.
"I'm so sorry, where can I get a towel or something to clean it up with."
"Don't worry about it," he smiled up at my flustered face and pulled the red rug that covered the front entry way over top of the spilled alcohol. "There no harm done."
"I dunno man, I think that's a party fowl." My eyes instantly darted back up to Jayden's face and my breath got caught in my throat as he stepped towards me and reached out to grab another bottle of Vodka. He made a point to hold my gaze the entire time. "I assume this will be okay with you?" His voice was deep and so unbelievably sexy that I couldn't even use my words. I just nodded, which made him smirk. This was no ordinary smirk. It was a ha-ha-I-know-I'm-totally-making-you-so-nervous-right-now kind of smirk.
Now I couldn't let him get away with that now could I? There was no way I was going to let this guy think I was nervous around him. A nervous girl is almost as good a target as a whore to a player. I didn't want him to think of me as a target, so I just took a step back and watched as he poured four shots of vodka.
"What's this for?" I asked him sounding bored and uninterested.
"For wasting precious alcohol, all four of them down the hatch." He motioned taking a shot and looked at me expectedly. If I took all of those shots, it was likely I would throw up right in his face. That would be both embarrassing and funny, but was it a risk I was willing to take? Of course it was. If I didn't, then this guy would see me as weak and as a target. I am not a target.
"Hey, it's a party why the fuck not." I grabbed the first shot glass, and I reached my hand out for a bottle of coke but Jayden's hand came down on mine hard and he shook his head. The way he was looking at me was rather intense and it made me uncomfortable.
"No chaser, not for ten seconds after your last shot." He was testing me, trying to push me to my limit. Well, let's just say I know his game very well and he cannot win against me. I shrugged and took the first shot cringing at the burning sensation it gave me. The next three shots went down quickly and before I knew it the ten seconds was up and I didn't even need the pop to chase the burning taste of vodka out of my mouth.
"That's a good way to start off the night." I said smacking my lips together. "Sorry about breaking that bottle, Jason. I'll see you around." I then grabbed two beers and stalked off to the dance floor without so much as a look at Jayden.
I don't think I have ever seen a girl take shots like that before... Nor have I seen a girl seem so, uninterested in me. The bitch barely even looked at me. If this was gunna be one of those rich towns where the girls are full of themselves and only date older guys, I'm gunnabe pissed. Not that I can't get older girls if I have to, but high school girls are just so much easier. Being a Breeze will most likely help in this town. From what Jason has told me everyone wants to please you, I hope that means girls too.
"Your Jayden right?" I soft girlish voice reached my ears. When I turned around, I saw a blonde-haired girl with big eyes and boobs. Just my type.
"Yeah and who might you be?" This is almost too easy. I know this girl gunna be mine tonight.
"Stacy. Stacy Lockart."
I was more than surprised when I woke up Sunday morning with a text message from Jason Breeze apologizing for his cousin's pushy behavior at the party. For a second I had to think about who the hell he was talking about, then I realized that he must have been talking about Jayden. So when he had called Jason 'Bro' he hadn't meant it literally, but they were related. As I lay in bed thinking about what to say back to him, my brother James came barging into the room, waving a postcard in his hand.
"Mom and Dad?" I asked, already knowing the answer. Our parents were away on a business trip together that had seemed to turn into a monthlong vacation that James and I hadn't been invited to. All I have to say about that is what else could I expect from them? They never wanted to spend time with us anyway, so why not just abandon us for an entire month?
"Yeah, the 'business trip' is apparently going great." my brother said in a grim voice.
We looked a lot alike each other, our face structure was the same and our eyes were the exact same shade of blue. I was less than a year older than him, apparently our parents couldn't wait to have another child that they paid no attention to. Okay, I guess that's not fair. It's not like our parents never wanted us or anything but as soon as we were old enough to take care of ourselves they focused solely on their work. If it wasn't for our live-in housekeeper James and I would always be alone.
"I'm taking the credit card to buy some groceries." James said after tossing the postcard on my bed, I probably wouldn't even read it.
"What about Lucinda, shouldn't she be getting them?"
"Sunday is her day off and we literally have nothing to eat." James complained to me before slamming my door shut. I sighed and turned my attention back to my phone. The text from Jason was still open. Without giving it too much thought about sounding interested in the guy, I asked why I had never seen or heard of Jayden before. After a minute, my phone buzzed again beside me and I quickly read his response.
'He just moved to Selesity with his mom, he starts school with us on Monday.'
He was going to our school! The last thing Selesity High needed was another guy who thought so highly of himself that he didn't care about hurting girl's feelings. There was no doubt in my mind that when I saw Jayden Breeze next he would be sucking face with some girl that had thrown herself at him thinking she was scooping him up before anyone else could.
I would love it if a player got shut down by the one girl that he is actually interested in. That would teach him. But those things never happen, and I'm sure if those types of things did happen Jayden Breeze would be the exception.
