Chapter Four
Everyone in the basement was extremely drunk. The bottle of vodka that I had brought down with me, combined with the bottle of rum that Liam and Chad (I finally figured out the mystery guy's name) had brought with them, went a long way between all of us. As soon as I started feeling drunk, I didn't even care about Liam joining in on our small circle on the floor. Who knows why we didn't all just sit on the couch, it was plenty big enough for all of us.
I don't remember whose idea it was to play truth or dare but I was all for it. At first the dares started out like take three shots, take a body shot off of so and so, take a mix of vodka and rum; You get the picture. Then it started to get a little more interesting. Liam dared Bridget to kiss Chad, which led to Bridget daring Liam to kiss Lisa, then Liam being the perve that he is dared me to kiss Bridget. It went on like this for a while until everyone had pretty much kissed everyone and then Josh dared me to make out with him!
To be honest, I was pretty excited that he had dared me to kiss him. Obviously it meant that he liked me and I liked him too. He was cute and funny and not a player. So I went for it. He was a good kisser, no, a fantastic kisser. His lips were soft, and he didn't shove his tongue down my throat like some boys have. All was going so well until I heard Lisa say that stupid name that I wished I would never hear again.
"Jayden, come play with us."
I ripped my lips away from Josh and looked up to see Jayden standing there, looking slightly dumbfounded. When I grinned at the look on his face, he seemed to regain his composure and smirked at Lisa.
"Sorry baby, I don't 'play.'" then he stalked up the stairs, but not before giving Josh a dirty look.
"Jerk." I muttered under my breath. Josh heard what I said and nodded in agreement, before flashing me a pearly white smile and kissing my cheek.
When I woke up Saturday morning, I felt like crawling in a hole and staying there. First Lucinda our house keeper flipped her lid because the house was destroyed and drunk people were passed out everywhere. I had a pounding headache thanks to all the vodka and beer I drank, and there was a huge pile of puke right beside the bathroom toilet that I had to clean up. Really people? How drunk do you have to be to puke right beside the freaking toilet!
I spent the entire day talking with Cali and Amanda about how much fun we had at the party. Apparently, Cali and Jason had really hit it off. I was happy for them, Cali deserved a guy like Jason. He was nice, gorgeous and upbeat just like her. Amanda had also hit it off with a guy on the football team. I didn't know exactly who Alex Fret was, but if he was on the football team, he was good looking. Everyone on the football team was good looking, with at least a moderate muscle mass. That was Amanda's type to the tee. When I finally got to tell them about Josh Striker Cali gave me a confused look and looked at Amanda thoughtfully.
"What?" I asked, nervous at the way they were looking at me.
"Why are you lying to us?" Amanda said with her arms crossed over her chest.
"I'm not lying about anything."
"Yeah, well, last night Jayden was looking for you. I thought you said you don't talk to him?" What were they getting at? I did not like where this conversation was going.
"I don't talk to him. At one point last night James introduced us properly, but I walked away without a care in the world. Why do you think I'm lying?" My voice sounded angry, so I tried to calm myself down. "Why was Jayden looking for me?"
"Shit." Cali said. "Well uh, when Jayden came looking for you I assumed it meant that you guys had been talking. So I uh... I grabbed Amanda and told her that he was looking for you and she was all 'Ha Delanie is a lying bitch.' and Jayden was all 'what are you talking about.' And Amanda told him how you said you're not interested in him and he was all super surprised and saying 'What she's not interested in me!'"
The entire time Cali was telling me what happened she was using accents to depict the different voices; It was rather entertaining. "So I told him that, you are not interested in him just disgusted by him. Then I think I fell over..." She finished with a confused look on her face.
"So basically you told him I'm disgusted by him?"
"I guess that would have been the final thought yeah." Cali shrugged her shoulders and looked a bit relieved that I was looking at it from that angle. That is until I started beating her with a couch pillow.
"Are. You. Mental!" I yelled while hitting her repeatedly. "Now he will target me you twit!"
This was the last thing I needed! Now that Jayden knew I definitely wasn't interested in him he would make it his life goal to make me interested! He would never leave me alone. Just when I was happy with the way things were going, it all had to get messed up.
"You don't know that for sure." Amanda wasn't close enough for me to smack her with the pillow or I probably would have wailed her in the face.
I did know. I was an expert on these kinds of things. I have learned firsthand and from watching others get played that when you appear uninterested; It makes you a challenge. Every good player loves a challenge, especially a guy like Jayden that has girls throwing themselves at him left, right and center! My friends had just made me become his biggest target.
I've never had such a strange day in my entire life.
On Monday morning when I walked out the door to go to school, I almost stepped on a big white box that was on my front porch. When I opened it, there was a big cake covered in pink frosting that had three big question marks etched in white piping gel. When I got to my locker at school, there was a red heart taped to my locker that said 'your cute.' It was when I got to my final class, gym, that I found the most odd thing. My gym locker had been stocked full of crates of Smirnoff Vodka. Something weird was going on. Either somebody was out to get me or somebody had a weird sense of humor.
"Amanda, can you pull your car around to the back of the school?" I asked when I reached our lockers; This time there was a card stuck my locker. I sighed and stuffed it into my backpack. I had more important things to do then read a stupid letter or whatever it was. Like transporting several bottles of alcohol out of my school. Whoever put them there must not have thought that one through. I'm underage and you can't have alcohol at school, this made me think maybe somebody was out to get me.
"Why?" she asked, slamming her locker shut and pulling on her backpack.
"Uh... maybe I'll just show you." I grabbed her by the wrist and pulled her into the change rooms.
"Holy shit!" She yelled, "Is that all..."
"Yes, and I need to get rid of it!" I said desperately. When Amanda looked at me like I was crazy, I changed my wording. "I mean I need to get it out of the freaking school! Can you please go pull your car around to the gym doors?"
It took us less than ten minutes to get the five crates of alcohol out of my locker and safely into the back of her car. Thank god nobody saw us or we would have been expelled. I had no idea who had put them in my locker, or how they even got into my locker, but they sure were stupid.
"Did you open the card?" Amanda asked as she pulled out of the school parking lot.
"Huh?" I asked confused.
"The card taped to your locker, did you open it?" She asked again sounding a little irritated at having to repeat herself. I grabbed my backpack from the back seat and pulled out the small white envelope hoping that whatever was written inside would tell me who was leaving me these weird gifts.
I bet your curious... If you want to know meet me at Selesity Park at five pm
p.s bring the cake
I definitely didn't recognize the writing, the only way to find out who did this was to go meet them. Gosh, I hope it's not some serial killer or something.
I cannot believe I am going to meet whoever was crazy enough to stack my locker with alcohol. Obviously it was somebody who knew what I liked to drink but still stupid enough to not think about the fact that my locker was in school and therefore definitely should not be filled with alcohol. My mind had been reeling about who it could have possibly been. Josh? No, I knew it wasn't him because when I told him about the cake on my doorstep in Home Ec today he just laughed and asked if I had any of it with me. I watched his facial expressions to see if he showed any signs of being the culprit, but there was nothing.
I also thought that it could be Liam. Maybe after the party he thought about what happened between us and wanted to make it up to me. But that's not very Liam like at all; in fact, no player would do something like this for a girl. The only other guy I really knew was Jason, and Cali really liked him so I prayed it wasn't him. That would just be awkward.
"Delanie, over here." A familiar voice said. I looked to my left and saw Jayden standing under my favorite willow tree waving at me. You have got to be kidding me.
"Jayden?" I asked sounding shocked as I approached him. He was sitting on a red blanket under the willow tree leaning against what looked like a cooler. "What are you doing here?"
"Waiting for you, of course. Hey, you didn't bring the cake." He sounded a bit disappointed, but he stood up to greet me, anyway.
"So you left me the cake?" He nodded. "The heart on my locker?" He nodded again, and a smile played across his face, he looked proud of himself. "The alcohol as well?"
"I wasn't sure if that would offend you or if you would be happy about it. I assume you're happy about it?"
"No!" I screamed at him. "No, I am not happy about it! I spent ten minutes lugging those crates out of the school praying to God that I wouldn't get caught! What were you thinking!" I started pounding my fists on his chest, taking out all my anger on him. Not once did it cross my mind that Jayden would have been the one to do all those things. Now it made sense, he is the only person stupid enough to stuff a locker full of alcohol and assume you wouldn't get in trouble for it. Well, only because he wouldn't get in trouble for it, because he is a Breeze.
Infuriated I started walking away from him, wishing that I hadn't had come. I had been hoping for something special maybe from some secret admirer or something and all I got was Jayden. I felt him grab my wrist, and I tried to pull away but his grip was tight. He spun me around so I was facing him and looked at me through sad emerald green eyes.
"Please stay. I'm sorry. I didn't think that one through, please just stay for five minutes. Just give me five minutes." His voice was desperate, and he sounded genuinely sorry. I knew I might regret my decision, but what harm could five minutes do?
So maybe I stayed longer than five minutes; it was only because Jayden had brought strawberries and chocolate dip. At first I hadn't really been interested in talking with him, I was just stuffing my face with strawberries but eventually I started talking with him and it wasn't so horrible. When he wasn't at school, he didn't have that I'm-better-that-you-because-Im-so-hot attitude about him. He seemed like a normal guy, but I kept reminding myself he is not a normal guy, he is a player.
"Throw one for me." He said as I picked up a blueberry and tossed it into my mouth.
"I have horrible aim." I said laughing because I was surely about to embarrass myself.
"Just throw." He said and leaned his head back with his mouth wide open. I tossed the blueberry hoping it was going somewhat in the right direction when it hit him right in the eye.
"Oh my gosh!" I scooted over closer to him on the blanket to inspect the damage. "Are you okay? I warned you I have terrible aim!" I laughed again, still feeling bad about hitting him in the eye.
"It's okay, it was just a blueberry." He said looking at me with a smile on his face. God, he was so gorgeous. I completely forgot that I had moved closer to him when I hit him with the blueberry and I think he got the wrong idea because he wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled me close against his side. Wow, he was really strong.
"What are you doing?" I asked curiously when he didn't remove his arm from around my waist. I hate myself for saying this, but his hand touching my skin was sending my nerves through the roof. My body got all warm and tingly, oh god this cannot be good. "I should go." I said standing up suddenly and hitting my head on one of the lower branches of the tree. "Fuck." I gripped my head where I hit it and cursed again under my breath.
"Are you okay?" Jayden asked standing up more carefully than I had. Standing this close with him, I realized that he was quite a bit taller than me. By about a head at least.
"I'm fine." I replied harshly while stepping back away from him. "I just gotta get home. See you around." I took off without another word.
As I packed up the blanket and the leftover fruit, I thought to myself about how things had gone. Mostly they went well. She seemed to have warmed up to me quickly; I didn't even have to get her drunk like I thought I would. Before I knew it, she was laughing at my jokes and everything. But of course, I make one move on her and then everything is blown to pieces.
Why does she have to be in denial? Why can't she just admit that she likes me? I mean, I like her. No other girl has caught my attention like this, probably because no other girl has ever been uninterested in me. But she is interested. I can see it in her face when she looks at me. If I give it some time, she will be mine.
Now I just want to get drunk and maybe call up Stacy. I need to get some.
