Chapter Two
Alexx had been in London for more than a year now. She worked at a bakery called Granny's, which she reeeaaallllyyyy loved because A) she absolutely adored the elderly owner, B) she loved baking, and C) Freestyle Friday. Freestyle Friday was where the customer could order a baked good that wasn't on the menu and the baker would make it.
She lived in the flat above Mrs. Hudson, saying it was only temporary until she found her own place or there was someone interested in it. Whichever came first. In all honesty, Mrs. Hudson didn't mind the child, she was quiet and more well mannered than past tenets. Plus the elderly woman had been alone for a while and she could see Alexx was in pain still. Mrs. Hudson wanted to talk with her about her life, but she was giving it more time before she did.
"Have a good day at work, dearie." She said, patting Alexx's cheek. Alexx kissed her cheek,
"Thanks grandma, you too." She said and left, Mrs. Hudson closed the door behind the young woman, smiling to herself. First time Alexx called her that a few months ago was an accident, Mrs. Hudson told her it was fine, so she was now grandma to Alexx.
Alexx smiled, seeing William there like always on the dot. She got in the backseat and the elderly man started driving.
"Good morning William." She said.
"Good morning, love." He responded. The two talked before arriving at Alexx's work,
"Margie's birthday is soon, yea? What kind of cake does she like again?" Alexx asked, paying him the cab fair, which he reluctantly took. First few times she tried to pay him he refused and she gave up, but eventually she won.
"Marble with buttercream frosting." William responded, "have a good day at work, love." Alexx smiled and got out,
"You too, William." She said and waved him goodbye before unlocking the bakery and going in. She read the note from Granny Knoll saying the Baker was ill and wouldn't be in. She also said that if Alexx couldn't fill in at the same time of being cashier, she understood. Alexx chuckled softly and called Granny, telling her she had everything handled and could do both.
Throughout the day she did indeed do it, with a few hiccups here and there but she did it. It was towards the end of the day and things started to slow down. Alexx was in the back making Margie's cake. She heard the bell on the door ringing, meaning someone had come in. She then heard the bell on the counter,
"I'll be there in a second." She called, pouring the batter into the pan and heading to the oven. The pan dropped, batter splattering everywhere, and her screaming as she was grabbed.
---
Detective Inspector Greg Lestrade was sitting at his desk, looking through leads of a man they've been looking for for more than a year. The man was a serial rapist and killer, earning the name 'modern day Jack the Ripper' from the media. He sighed, rubbing his brow with his thumb and tossing his pen onto his desk, leaning back in his seat and rubbing his face.
"Yea." He said when someone knocked on his door. Sally Donovan poked her head in,
"There's been another." She said.
"Christ..." Greg sighed, getting up and grabbing his coat. "Where?"
---
There was a stretcher being loaded onto an ambulance and a stretcher with a black bag on it being loaded into the corner's van.
Lestrade sighed softly at seeing the two vehicles.
"Alright, Donovan, who was she?" He asked, assuming the girl was dead,
"Actually, sir, shes in the ambulence. The perp is dead." She said. Lestrade looked surprised, she continued, "Alexandra McAvery, turned 20 two months ago, just moved here a little over a year ago." She handed the DI a black and blue striped wallet.
"McAvery....why does that sound familiar...." Lestrade mumbled to himself before opening the wallet, "red hair, green eyes, that was his MO wasnt it?" He asked. Donovan nodded
"And, killings started a month after she moved here."
"Think they're connected?"
"Its a stretch, but i do." She responded, Lestrade nodded
"Who killed him?" He asked, she shrugged
"Got an annonymous tip from some guy and that's it."
"Security footage?"
"It cut out an hour before the attack." She said. He sighed heavily,
"Christ. Either way, the killer's been delt with. I'll go to the hospital, talk to the doctors and talk with the victim. You go back to the station and close the case." Lestrade said. Donovan nodded and they went their seprate ways.
