"You know Serena we aren't that very different" Ash stated.

"What do you mean?" Serena questioned.

"We have had terrible lives as children, bad relationship with our parents" Ash answered, "But my past is a different path than yours"

"Explain" Serena demanded.

"Well, this all started back when I was 7" Ash started.

Flashback

Ash had been constantly bullied throughout his child life, his parents never really helped him that much as they abused him. Andrew was the only person whom was friendly to Ash and he never had parents. While at school, the two devised a plan to leave their horrible lives by running away. After packing his things, Ash snuck out from his window and he and Andrew set off to find a place that was better for them.

"Did you bring anything that could help us?" Ash asked.

"I was able to get myself some cheques from the work I've done at the supermarket" Andrew explained.

"How much in total do we have?" Ash asked again.

"300 dollars, hopefully we can survive" Andrew replied.

10 years later

The two boys have travelled Kanto for about 10 years. At some point throughout their travels, they have stopped and rested at homes that would let them in. And when they were about to leave, they were given food and money for their travels. While they were at Saffron City, they needed money so they were going to cash in a cheque at the Saffron Bank.

"Which cheque are we using?" Ash asked.

"The one that says 73 dollars on it" Andrew answered.

Just before they could cash in the cheque, gunfire was heard from behind them and they turned to see a group of burglars. Everyone went to the ground as the burglars started taking money from the tellers. Ash and Andrew decided on helping the bank so they quietly moved towards the burglars to get near them. Once close, Andrew grabbed a tranquiliser gun that he built and started firing at some of the burglars. They noticed and pointed their guns at him but Ash was behind them and shocked them all with the taser gloves Andrew made for him. After taking out the burglars, people around them celebrated and the police came to take them away.

"You did good boys" The chief told them, "Come with me"

"Ok" They both replied.

The police chief took them to the station and awarded them with a job opportunity at the police station. The two accepted it and became cadet officers.

5 years later

It's been 5 years now and Ash has become one of Kanto's most well-known detectives while Andrew became a forensic scientist and mechanic. The two have become the best crime fighters after being awarded a medal of honour by President Lance. Ever since the whole bank robbery happened in Saffron, the two boys have finally gained a better life. Andrew even reunited with his parents. That's how their life was.

Flashback end

"Now do you see?" Ash asked.

Serena sat there shocked after hearing Ash's backstory. Despite the fact that his parents abused him like hers, he didn't go into a life of burglary. Instead, it was the opposite as he became a well-known crime fighter. This put her deep into thought as she only became a burglar after stealing from a shop. He only became a detective when he stopped a robbery, maybe their actions lead them to different pathways. Her thoughts were interrupted when she saw Ash getting up.

"Oh, by the way, I've got something for you" Ash said as he placed a photo on the table near her.

After he left the interrogation room, Serena looked at the photo he left and she was shocked by it. It was a photo of kids at a summer camp and she noticed a younger Ash was in the picture. But what caught her eye the most was the girl who was standing right next to him. That was her, Ash was that friend she had back in the summer camp. To be honest, Serena did have a slight crush on him back then but she couldn't believe that she didn't remember him. Maybe Ash remembered her, that's why he gave her the photo.

"Ash was the boy whom I had a crush on" Serena thought with a blush.

Sure she had been with Calem for years now, but she didn't have the slightest attraction towards him. She only saw him as a friend. Ash on the other hand, Serena met when she tripped over in the forest and he had helped her up. He was basically the only person whom was also nice to her other than Calem. However, he seemed even kinder than anyone has ever been to her. Sure, Serena has those burglars working for her but she was their boss so they had to be nice. Her thoughts were broken once again when the door opened.

"Time to take you to your cell" Commissioner Malcolm said as he grabbed Serena.

As Serena was taken out of the interrogation room, she looked to see Ash sitting there at a desk. The two made eye contact until Serena was taken to where the cells were. When she was placed inside, she sat on her bed thinking about Ash. The look he gave her seemed to be a sorry look. What will Ash do?

I said maybe an hour but it took way more than that. The only reason it took a long time was because I've been trying to find a Uxie in my Pokémon Ultra Moon game. Once I found it, it was a pain to catch. Other than that, I will see you in the next chapter. Cheerio everyone.
