Chapter 1

"Ms. Adams! You're late! AGAIN!!"

Eliza Adams mentally groaned as she stood at the doorway of the classroom looking at her Physics teacher. She considered pointing out that she arrived just as the bell rang and it was he, who, arrived early but she quickly dismissed the thought because she knew she could never win an argument with Mr. Harris. The man was stubborn than a mule.

" I'm sorry sir, I..."

"This is the fifth time this week Ms. Adams! And tomorrow is Saturday ! Do you realize what that means?!".

" Um....that today is Friday?", she answered shifting her weight from one foot to another. She heard laughter erupt from some of her classmates. Mr. Harris, on the other hand, did not look amused. She knew she was testing his patience but she could not care less. She had to admit though, she had arrived late the whole week but it was all her best friend Diana's fault. That girl took forever to get ready. But today, she managed to arrive early but of course Mr. Harris would never agree with that.

" It means that you've arrived late the entire week ! And for that you get detention for 2 weeks ! And since you've also decided to work that smart mouth of yours, I've decided to extend it by another 2 weeks. Now come inside and take a seat !"

How generous of you, Eliza thought but chose not to say. She took her usual seat by the window and wondered what her dad would say about her detention. He would probably be mad, but he would get over it. This was not the first time she got into trouble anyways. She absentmindedly started playing with the pendant around her neck. It was medium- sized- oval- shaped pendant with a rock embedded in it . The rock was a light purple color so she always assumed it was Amethyst though she had her doubts. She had compared hers to other Amethyst crystals multiple times and she always found that her crystal was somehow different from the usual Amethyst crystals. She could never figure out exactly what it was so she gave up. She hated the necklace the first time her father gave it to her, when she was 10 years old. The only reason she wore it was because he claimed it was her mothers. She never met her mother and she hoped wearing this necklace would somehow bring her closer to her. She was pulled out of her thoughts when Mr. Harris suddenly shouted at her to pay attention. She realized she was staring out the window again . She ignored the death glare Mr. Harris was giving her and mentally counted the minutes till the end of class.

After a torturous hour of physics, it was finally time for gym class. It was her favorite because she always excelled in any type of physical activity. It was also the only class she shared with her best friend Diana Lewis. She hurried to the girls locker room and changed into her polo shirt and gym shorts. She tucked her gold necklace inside her shirt and tied up her shoes. She looked around the changing rooms but she couldn't find Diana anywhere. She must have already changed and left. Tying up her brown hair into a ponytail, she hurried into the Gym. She spotted her friend talking to a boy near the bleachers. She jogged over to them noticing how Diana was laughing and playfully hitting the boy's arm. Even from this distance, she could tell her friend was faking her laugh.

" Hey D", she greeted her friend once she was in earshot, completely ignoring the boy. Her friend's big brown eyes lit up when she noticed her.

" Oh hey Liz ! You remember Ned right?", Diana asked pulling her to her side and gesturing towards the dark- haired boy standing in front of her. Eliza looked at the boy properly. He seemed familiar, but she couldn't remember from where.

" Hey Liz", Ned greeted smiling sweetly. Eliza immediately sensed the smile was not genuine. She was irritated at how he casually called her Liz too. Only Diana and her dad could call her that.

" It's Eliza", she said to him coldly and turned her attention to her best friend before asking, " Can we go now? The class is starting."

Her best friend only glared at her in response before she turned her attention to Ned again and forced her features into a fake smile.

" I'm sorry about Liz. She can be too much sometimes," Diana said before fake laughing again. Eliza raised her eyebrows but said nothing. She immediately understood what her friend was trying to do. she's playing matchmaker again. Great.

" Yeah it's okay. I'm sure she will warm up to me soon." Ned said before giving another one of his fake smiles. Eliza was getting irritated by the second. She didn't like the way he said it. There was an underlying meaning to his words and she wanted to punch him in the face to wipe that smug look off his face. She gritted her teeth and glared at him before saying," The only way I will ever warm up to you is by setting your ass on fire, Jerk."

She heard Diana gasp but she ignored her. She watched in satisfaction as Ned widened his eyes and was momentarily dumbfounded. She could be intimidating when she wanted to and she loved that. She hated fake people and she could tell Ned was one of them. She gave him one last deathly glare and without another word, she pulled her friend by the wrist towards the gym teacher who just arrived.

All through class, she ignored Diana's glares. She knew she would never let this matter go easily. This was the 10th time this month she rejected a boy that Diana tried to hook her up with. It wasn't her fault though. She did find them attractive but it was their personalities that repulsed her. Even though it was hard to believe, she never had a single crush in her entire 17 years of existence. She had trust issues just like her father and that was why she had no other friends except for Diana.

As soon as the bell rang, she bolted for the cafeteria without giving a backward glance. She didn't even bother changing. She could do that after she finished lunch. She was famished and she knew that if she stayed a second longer, her best friend would pounce on her and she did not have the patience to argue with her. She was starving after all those exercises and she wanted to get at least a mouthful of food before facing the wrath of Diana. She quickly brought herself a Ham sandwich, fries and apple juice. She sat a table, eating and waiting for Diana to show up.

She was halfway through her sandwich when she noticed her best friend enter the cafeteria. She was surprised that she took only 10 minutes to change. Diana always made sure she looked her best unlike her. She gulped nervously when Diana's eyes landed on her and she strode towards her angrily. To say she was pissed, would be the understatement of the century. Although Diana was 5'3 she could intimidate anyone by her big eyes. And right now, those eyes were only trained on one person.

"ELIZA JANE ADAMS !", Diana shouted as soon as she reached the table," What were you thinking ?!"

" Well, in my defence, ever since I met you in second grade, my thinking abilities have been reducing drastically. So, by now, I doubt my brain has the cells to even spare for thinking."

" Ha- ha. You think you're so funny don't you?", Diana asked, before taking a seat opposite her.

Eliza gasped dramatically and placed a hand on her chest before saying, " You don't think I'm funny? "

" Oh cut it Liz," Diana sighed and Eliza could already see the anger fading away from her face. " I'm just trying to help you. If you keep up that I-don't- give-a- shit attitude, you'll never have a boyfriend before you turn eighteen."

" But D, I don't want one ! " Eliza whined. Her birthday was coming up in a few weeks and Diana was determined to get her a boyfriend by then, much to her annoyance. She didn't think she needed a boy now. Relationships were just too much drama and she wasn't ready for that.

" Fine ! ", Diana snapped, " then just remember this when you're on your death bed surrounded by 30 or so cats, that I tried to help you ! "

" Why would I get cats ? I could get snakes. Actually, I'm definitely thinking of getting snakes. Maybe 10."

Diana rolled her eyes at her friend's sarcasm and proceeded to take some fries from her tray. But her hand was quickly swatted away by her. " Hey get your own fries !", Eliza complained.

" Ugh. I forgot to buy my lunch because I was busy planning to murder you. You already have the sandwich ! Just hand over the damn fries !"

Eliza giggled and pushed the tray towards her friend, shaking her head. She opened her mouth to devour the rest of the sandwich but immediately closed it when she noticed her least favourite person walking towards them. Jason Millers. Suddenly, she didn't have an appetite anymore. He caught her eye and smirked at her while she glared at him with pure hatred. Diana was too busy eating to notice the sudden change in her friend's mood. Diana always told her that her glares were lethal, due to the intensity of her blue eyes but somehow Jason wasn't affected by them. He was still smirking when he reached the table and took a seat beside Diana.

" Hey sweetheart." He said slinging his arm over Diana's shoulders. Diana's eyes lit up and she giggled placing a kiss on his cheek before saying, " Hey baby."

Eliza felt sick witnessing the scene infront of her. She hated that guy with a passion and unfortunately for her, he just happened to be her best friend's boyfriend. She never understood why Diana agreed to be his girlfriend. Sure, he had the perfect looks of an angel. Blonde hair and blue eyes. But apart from his looks, nothing about him was even remotely attractive. She could never explain it, but she could sense dishonesty from him. Of course, even Diana would call her crazy if she claimed that she could sense other's feelings. But she just could. Especially negative feelings. When she confessed about this to her dad, he reassured her that she was just ' special'. But she knew he said that because he couldn't call his own daughter crazy.

" Hey Liz." He greeted her nonchalantly. Eliza found her anger rising. He knew that she hated it when he called her that. She gripped the pendant of her necklace to try and control her anger. Somehow, the pendant helped her control her emotions . She always assumed that was because the pendant belonged to her mother but a voice at the back of her mind nagged her that there was something more to it.

" It's Eliza." She said through gritted teeth. Jason smirked, clearly enjoying her being worked up, and opened his mouth to say something but was cut off by Diana," So Jase, did you come here to tell me something?"

She probably guessed I was about to blow, Eliza thought, smart girl.

She looked as Jason rubbed the back of his neck and answered calmly, " Nothing babe. I just came here to tell you that we have to cancel our date today. Coach wants us to practice extra hard for the upcoming game."

He's lying ! He's hiding something ! Eliza thought to herself in frustration. She did not miss the hurt in Diana's eyes as he said that before she quickly faked a smile and answered, " It's okay babe. We can postpone our date. "

Jason grinned, showcasing his perfect teeth and kissed her cheek. Eliza huffed and got up from her seat abruptly, surprising the couple. " I've got go and change D. I'll meet you at your locker after classes, okay? Bye !", she said in a hurry and left before Diana could say anything.

She was fuming with anger as she made her way out of the cafeteria. How can she not see his true colours ? Dammit ! Even his smiles are so fake ! . She shook her head, clearing her thoughts. She didn't want to fight with Diana over him again. They had done that too many times. She entered the girls locker room to find it empty. Of course, everyone's still in the cafeteria. Sighing, she let her hair loose from her ponytail and ran a hand through it. She changed back into her jeans and T-shirt and was stuffing her gym clothes back into her locker when she heard the room door open. Cautiously, she looked around her locker to see who it was. Much to her surprise, she saw a tall boy standing in the middle of the girls locker room. She was momentarily flabbergasted at how handsome he was. He had dark brown hair, much like hers, and he was tall, maybe about 6'2. He was dressed in all black ; a black leather jacket over a plain black shirt combined with black jeans and black combat boots. His features were sharp and his eyes were wandering all over the room as if he was searching for something. And then suddenly, his eyes zoomed in on her and her breath hitched in her throat. His lips curved into a faint smile and he made his way towards her.

Eliza felt an unfamiliar feeling in the pit of her stomach as she saw him walking towards her. He stopped just a few steps away from her. Up close, she could see that his eyes were a deep hazel brown. Even with the faint stubble growing on his cheeks, she could tell that he was very young. Maybe 17 or 18. She suddenly felt very small than her 5'7 frame as he studied her with his intense eyes. She snapped out of her reverie when he asked in a deep voice, " Zinia ?"

Oh well, Eliza thought. He's definitely not here for me. She tried not to be disappointed and smiled up at him and answered, " I'm sorry but you have the wrong person. I'm Eliza. Oh and by the way, you should probably go, this is the girls locker room and you'll get into trouble if anyone catches you here."

If it had been any other boy, she was sure she would have shouted and made a scene. She studied his features closely wondering if he was from this school. She was sure she would remember a handsome face like his. She watched as his face scrunched up in confusion at what she just said and couldn't help but think how adorable he looked when he was confused. She almost let out a sigh.

" Didn't Didus tell you anything?", he asked, his intense eyes searching her face.

" Who? What are you talking about? ",Eliza said, it was her turn to be confused.

He sighed and closed his eyes before opening them again. His jaw was set as if he decided something. " You're in danger. Come on, I'll explain on the way, we have to leave now", he suddenly grabbed her hand and pulled her towards the door. Eliza gasped at the contact but recovered quickly and wrenched her hand out of his grip. If anyone had tried that with her, she was sure she would have punched them in the face. But she was only slightly irritated now.

" Don't touch me," Eliza glared at him half-heartedly and continued," I'm not who you want. You have the wrong person . I don't know who Didus is and I'm certain that I'm not in any kind of danger. Heck ! I don't even know who you are ! So just - "

" I'm Narsun and I'm here to take you back to Dirva . Didus is the one who told me to find you here. I see he has not told you anything but now is not the time to explain. All you need to know is that your life is in danger and if you don't come with me now -"

" STOP IT ! ", Eliza shouted, effectively cutting off his ramble. " This is the last time I'm telling you this so listen carefully," she poked his chest  and continued, " I'm not the one you're looking for ! And if this is some twisted prank you better tell me now or else I'll chop off your fingers - "

Her words suddenly died when the bell rang signalling that the classes had started. Oh great, I'm going to be late twice in one day, she thought. She decided that this was some stupid prank and choose to deal with him later. She turned around and plucked her bag from her locker, ignoring the way Narsun's eyes followed her every action. She glared at him and ignored his questioning looks while she simply walked past him. Attractive or not, he was getting on her nerves. She managed to make it into the corridor before she was yanked back and pulled into a hard chest. She looked up in anger too see Narsun staring back at her with frustration in his eyes.

" Did you not listen to a word I just said ?! "

" GET YOUR HANDS OFF ME !!"

She glared at him while he slowly released her from his grip. He was standing too close to her liking so she took a step back. She watched as he balled his fists and slowly released them. She could sense anger and frustration from him. She didn't know how long they were glaring at each other before she spoke up, " I know you don't go to this school . God knows how you got in here so before I call -", she was interrupted when she heard someone shout from the end of the hallway.

" Hey you two ! What are you doing outside of class?"

Eliza whipped her head towards the sound and found Mr. Jones making his way towards where they were standing. Mr. Jones was the hallway monitor of their school and he sure took his job seriously. He always made sure the students who skipped classes were punished. On any other day, Eliza might have been afraid to see him but today, she was glad. He would definitely understand that she was being held captive by a crazy guy right? She waved at him enthusiastically and shouted, " Mr. Jones ! This guy -", her speech was cut short when she felt someone grab her hand. She looked up to see Narsun holding her hand in a firm grip. Seriously? Couldn't this guy go two minutes without touching her?

" I know you don't know me but you have to trust me", he said, his hazel brown eyes boring into her blue ones. She looked away from him and tried to release her hand from his grip. She was getting angrier by the minute with his antics.

" You two will go to the principal's office now !", Mr. Jones screeched. He was now halfway through the hallway.

" Sir ! This guy here is -"

" Aaron", Narsun said and Eliza froze at the mention of her father's name. She turned her attention back towards him and momentarily forgot that her hand was still in his grip. " Aaron Adams? He is your father isn't he? I know you have the powers to sense others feelings so I want you to sense mine when I say this", Narsun said calmly, as if they had all the time in the world, not bothering the teacher who just arrived beside them and was demanding them to go with him.

Eliza was too stunned to say anything. She also completely ignored the teacher as she waited for Narsun to continue. She didn't know how he knew that but she suddenly wanted to hear what he had to say.

Narsun smirked, he knew he had her undivided attention. He glanced once at the irritating teacher who was still shouting and dipped his head to whisper close to her ear," Aaron is going to be in danger because of you."

Eliza was too paralysed to even react. She sensed the honesty in his words as soon as he said them. Her stomach began churning with anxiety as she tried to comprehend what he was saying. Maybe he's lying, she tried to reassure herself, but her guts said otherwise.

" Are you two even listening?! Untangle your hands at once and come with me or I will see that you both get suspended !!"

Narsun squeezed her hand gently, trying to bring back her attention to him. She watched as he raised his left eyebrow as if saying, what do you want to do now?. Never in a million years, did she think she would trust a complete stranger. But unexpected situations called for unexpected measures right? She glanced once at the teacher who was shouting so loudly that she wondered if he would burst a blood vessel. Then she looked back at Narsun who was still holding her hand and watching with amusement in his eyes. He was clearly enjoying this. Jerk.

She made up her mind and there was no turning back now. She would get into a lot of trouble if this turned out to be a prank but something told her this was more than that. She then looked Narsun straight in the eye and whispered, "Run."
