Nightmare vs. Reality?
3:00 in the Morning
I didn't realize that I had fell asleep on the movie I was watching. I always pass out on Scary Movie. I got up to turn the television off, I can never find that damn remote. As soon as I turned the TV off, I heard rustling outside my door. I thought it might be my mom but then I heard scratching on the walls outside. It scared the hell out of me and this feeling of pure terror washed over me. It wasn't the same feeling that I got when Dru showed up this was... something different. I almost felt as if I was in a nightmare and couldn't wake myself up. I pinched myself and it hurt like hell. What hurt more was realizing that I wasn't dreaming and what was happening was real.
I quickly covered my mouth so that I wouldn't scream but when I looked to my closed bedroom door I realized I hadn't locked it.
A damn murderer could be in my home right now and here I am in my room like a wuss completely petrified. I told myself to move and lock the door but I couldn't budge. Then I heard it.
"Shanie...." it whispered into the walls, "Shanie... I know you're in there. I just want to see you... feel you... ssssmell you... tasteee you..." The voice hissed like a serpent.
I had tears in my eyes and my heart was pounding like crazy. I told myself I had two options: Be a coward and let what ever it is out there consume me in my own fear or protect myself. I'm not a damsel in distress so, of course, I went with protecting myself. I wiped my eyes, bit my lip and covered my mouth. I set my mind on the lock and staying away from what ever was out there. I walked slowly to the lock, without making a sound, and twisted it quickly.
"SHANIE!!!" It shrieked right outside the door. I jumped back almost falling over my own feet.
"SHANIE LET US IN!! WE CAN PLAY NICE!" It screamed. "Don't be mean! We love you Shanieeeee!"
Tears rushed down my face I didn't want it to hear me scream so I covered my mouth even tighter with both hands. I didn't know what this thing was but it felt like it fed off my fear. The more scared I got, the more drained I felt. I couldn't let it have what it wanted. I didn't understand how I somewhat understood what was happening. My mind was racing. I did the only thing I could think of and I know it sounds crazy stupid. But I got in my bed, got under my covers as that thing pounded away at my door and I went to sleep.
You heard me right. I went to sleep on that Bish!! I can't explain it but that felt like the right thing to do. I was shook to my core but somehow I knew that thing was feeding off of me. Savoring every second that I was scared. SO I couldn't be scared.. obvy. In the heat of the moment, I thought of Dru and immediately that was the only conclusion I could draw up. To not be fearful and sleep it off and guess what, it worked.
I woke up a couple hours later and the sun was coming up. I didn't hear anything. The house was quiet. I thought, maybe it was all a bad dream. That's what I get for falling asleep on movies. Then I heard the sounds of my mother's keys and her coming into the house.
I went to greet her but I turned into a nervous wreck when I saw who was with her. The man from the day before. Her old friend, he smiled at me with a devilish grin.
"Mom, what the heck is going on?" I asked, starting to get upset.
"Language Shanie!" She scowled. "What are you doing up at this hour anyway?"
"The real question is what is he doing here." I rebutted.
"Well, Shanie, he's going to be staying with us for a little while." She said, sternly, completely ignoring me glaring at her as she spoke.
"Why?" I asked.
"Well his house has flooding issues and he's new to the area with no place to stay." She said as she helped him bring in his bag.
"This town has a motel." I said to her, I caught him smirking at me. He seemed amused by my comment. Ugh, it made me sick when he looked at me.
"Yeah, well, I'm the Mayor and I can't let my friend stay at a motel. SO he's staying here. No debates." She said to me, practically staring holes into my brain.
"Well, can I at least know your name since you were never properly introduced?" I said with all the attitude in the world, staring a hole into him.
"Ah, yes, my dear. Apologies." he said with cold dark eyes that sent a chill down my spine. He broke out a crooked smile to me, "My name is Matthew."
And my heart sank deep into the floor. Matthew is a demon. I kept seeing the sentence from my mother's journal in my head. Matthew. Is. A. DEMON?!
