Aaron's POV

My birthday is two days away, which means that tonight is New Year's Eve. Derek organised a party at his new apartment and invited us, but both Diana and I thought that it would be better if we stayed in. I know it's because she doesn't want to start her New Year without Emily by her side.

So instead, she decided to have a get together at her apartment. Marcel, Shelly, Ella, Connor are here, along with two new faces — Smith and Sarah, I believe. Ella owns the boutique with her, and from what I have gathered so far, Diana and Sarah do not get along. Also, surprisingly, I somehow convinced my girlfriend to invite Lucy as well, who showed up with a date. Uh-huh, her date's name is Sophie.

Who would have thought? Lucy bats for the other team.

But, there's something different about Diana. At first I thought she's just planning for my birthday but then she has been keeping her distance from me, and I am not a fan of it at all. The last few days I wasn't asked to stay over, and I felt like I was overstaying my welcome, because I only ever stayed when she asked me, so I went back home. It sucked though, waking up without her.

In the office, whenever I would approach her at the front desk, she would just make some excuse to get away. We would go to have lunch together, but she would barely meet my eyes. This has been happening for about five days now, and I am kind of sick of it.

I just really need to confront her about whatever's bothering her, because I haven't kissed her properly in five days and it's pissing me off incredibly. But, more than that, I am worried about what's going on with her. She hasn't distanced herself from me since a long time, and now it just feels strange, almost sad to be away from her like this, knowing that we are together but something isn't right.

Shelly, Diana, Marcel and Connor are in the kitchen, preparing food. Honestly, I never though I'll witness my boss cooking, but then life has a weird way of surprising you. Emily is playing with Smith and Sarah's son, who's like four, I believe. My eyes are set on them, and I realise how protective I have become of her. The little guy's name is Mark.

At first I thought that Sarah was our age, but turn out, both her and Smith are twenty seven. She has the 1% extra contribution in the boutique that Ella and her co-own because Ella just passed college last year, and she was adamant about having her own thing. She has known Sarah from years because they are family friends.

That is why Diana is a little jealous about their friendship, but she has nothing to be worried about. From what I have gathered so far, Ella and Diana are obviously a lot more close than Sarah and Ella are. They are more like colleagues.

I stand from the couch, getting bored of the conversation about fabrics and make my way to the kitchen. I go to stand behind Diana who's chopping the vegetables and my hand wraps around her waist, making her jump slightly. Yup, this never gets old.

"Hey." I smile and she immediately averts her eyes away.

"Hi."

Okay, seriously, what the hell am I missing here?

"Can you believe that it's going to be 2018 already?" I say, trying to make some conversation, but in return I just get a tight lipped smile.

"Aaron." I hear Marcel's voice so I turn around to look at him.

"Yes?" I ask.

"You're graduating this week, aren't you?" He asks and I smile.

"Yes, sir."

"You walking, son?" He pours a glass of wine for Shelly and I nod.

"Well, I am."

"That's great, when is it again?"

"Day after tomorrow."

Connor pipes in, a spatula in his hand, "Isn't that your birthday day after tomorrow?" He asks, clearly confused.

I chuckle. "Yup."

"Wow, nice." He says, moving around the spatula and I try not to laugh at his comical expression.

"You still coming, right?" I ask Diana, and she nods. "Emily too?"

Again, I receive a nod. Connor gives me a curious look at her response but I just shrug at him, because honestly, I have no clue what's going through her head, but by this point, she has me freaked out.

But, Emily and her coming to my graduation means a lot to me. I told her that my parents would be there too, but she said that she'll just sit far away from them and meet me after they have left. I frowned at that, so she agreed to at least greet them. I know she's more worried about Emily than she is about herself. Josh and Kevin will be graduating too, so of course, they'll be present there as well, but she said that she's fine with it.

I quote, "I don't care about what shit people say, Aaron. It's your birthday, and you are graduating, so it's completely your day – and if you want Emily and I there, we'll be there."

And then people wonder why am I in love with her. She has given me enough reasons to more than love her. She's grown into this beautiful person ever since I met her six months ago, while she's still her sassy ass to the world, she's the woman of my dreams – I wouldn't have her any other way.

When everyone starts setting the dinner table and it's just Diana and I in the kitchen, I turn her around to look at me. She still doesn't meet my eyes as she looks at the ground, making me scowl at her.

"What's wrong, Diana?" I ask.

She shakes her head, "Nothing." She says while still avoiding my gaze somehow. She's looking at me, but she's not looking me in the eyes.

"Look at me." I say, almost pissed at her behaviour.

What the hell is wrong?

She sighs before finally meeting my eye, "What's wrong?" I repeat and she sighs, again!

What's with all the sighing?

"Can we talk about this after everyone has left? Please." She begs and I nod, understanding.

"Okay, but we are talking about this before I leave." I tell her sternly.

"You are staying over." She commands, and a small smile takes over my features.

"Would you look at that? Sounds like progress." I tease and she gives me a small smile of hers, making me kiss her forehead.

I help her with the salad and Marcel calls the rest of the people to have dinner. We all have dinner, the conversation roaming around business, to vacations to everyone's resolutions for new year. I have none, simply because I know I cannot keep them, which goes same for Diana.

She's letting me hold her hand under the dinner table so I take that as a good sign but I let go of her after a while, because she's also helping Emily have food.

When everyone's done eating, we start to clean the dinner table. Lucy and Sophie help, and Diana's jealously ever since she got to know that Lucy's a lesbian, has turned down to zero.

"What were you doing last year at this time?" I ask Diana as we sit next to each other on the living room ground, everyone having a conversation of their own. It's a pretty happy mood with music in the background.

"It was just Emily and I last year, so we had dinner, I put her to bed and then watched Netflix." She shrugs, a pout on her face.

"Do you like this better?"

She smiles, "A lot." then looks at me, "What were you doing this time last year?" She asks.

Uh-huh. "Um.. nothing much." I try to play it off.

I probably should have come up with a better excuse than that, or I should have never asked that question in the first place. Because now, I have her full attention and she's staring at me, waiting for me to elaborate. I am glad everyone is oblivious to the two of us.

"What were you doing this time last year?" She asks, a curious look on her face.

I fidget in my face, "I was with Cara." I whisper, hoping for her to miss it but the way her eyes widen and her lips part, I know she heard me.

"You were having sex this time last year with your ex girlfriend." She states and I grimace at her blunt tone.

"Well.." I trail off, because I have nothing to offer her.

"God." She closes her eyes like she's in physical pain, "Was she good?" She asks, making me glare at her.

"Diana." I warn her.

"What? Was she better than me?" She asks, and it's not hard to to notice that she's jealous.

I take her hand in mine but she tries to get her grip out of mine, "I wasn't in love with her." I tell her the only thing that I have been telling her every time Cara is mentioned. While she seems to be over the whole Lizzy thing, Cara gets to her a lot.

She thinks that the only reason we broke up was because Cara moved continents, and if she hadn't we would still be together, but it's a lie. We would have broken up because while we were good together, it was nothing like I have with Diana, not even close.

"That's not answering my question, Aaron." She glares at me.

"Well, have I ever asked you if either Shane or Derek were better in bed than me?" I arch an eyebrow.

Honestly, the only reason I haven't is because I am afraid of her answer. I can't even believe we are having this conversation right now. God!

"You know what? You're right. We shouldn't talk about this." She smirks, looking straight ahead.

I gasp, "What the hell does that mean? Is that codeword for yes?" I ask, obviously worried.

She just shrugs at me, "I'll answer that question when you answer mine." She says, and I finally catch on. She's playing with me, but I am desperate to have an answer even if it's against me.

"No, she wasn't better than you. Not even close." I tell her and she turns to me with the victorious smile on her face.

"That's good to know."

"C'mon!" I groan.

She laughs, and for a moment I forget about our conversation and focus on her laugh. It's been days since I heard the sound and it just makes me smile.

Her body scoots closer to me and she leans over, her breath hitting my lips, "You are the best I have had, Aaron. Isn't that what they say? The unexpected ones are the wildest in the bed." She parts and winks at me.

I open my mouth to say something but immediately shut it when I don't come up with a response, which manages to make her laugh. She leans forward and places a kiss on my mouth and I sigh.

After half an hour, Diana puts Emily to bed. When she comes out, she notices Mark dozing off in Sarah's lap so she turns to her.

"There's a guest room. He can sleep there." She offers and Sarah offers a grateful smile.

Smith gestures for Sarah to keep sitting and picks up Mark in his arms before asking Diana for the way to the guest room which she tells him with a smile. Then she comes to sit next to me.

Soon, everyone is drinking wine and confessing stories they have never shared before. Diana sits on her by the floor, holding her stomach, laughing as Connor explains how one time he actually had a band in school, where he thought he was popular but turns out, everyone just liked him because he sang in a woman's voice.

"Three." Everyone chants

"Two."

"One."

I turn towards Diana, immediately catching her lips in mine, giving her three kisses before I smile, "Happy New Year, baby."

"Happy New Year, Aaron." She hugs me.

Everyone wishes one another and around one in the morning, Lucy and Sophie decide to get back home. Then, it is followed by everyone else. Connor and Ella offer to stay back to help up and clean but we just ask them to go home and sleep. Because I know Diana and I wouldn't be cleaning anything until tomorrow morning.

"I want to wish Emily." Diana pouts when we get in the bedroom and I pull her closer to me.

"Wanna wake her up?" I ask and she shakes her head.

"Her schedule will be screwed. I'll wait till the morning. Although, I do need to tell you that I am grateful for the last six months because you came into my life." She rests her head against my chest and I kiss her hair.

"Want to tell me what's going on?" I ask and she sighs, moving away.

"You should sit down." She gestures towards the bed and I immediately frown but do as she says.

"What is this about, Dee? I am freaking out." I tell her honestly.

"Uh-huh?"

I stare at her facial expressions to give away something, but I come up with absolutely nothing. So, I take my best shot. "Did you cheat on me?" I ask.

Her eyes widen as she stares at me, "The fact that you just questioned that really worries me for what I am about to tell you, Aaron." She sounds hurt and disappointed.

I try to pull her closer to me but she just remains standing by the edge of the bed, "I am sorry, I didn't mean to accuse. But seriously, I am worried as hell."

"I missed my period." She blurts out.

I freeze in my seat. Holy hell. That was the last thing I expected to come out of her mouth. I open my mouth to say something and immediately close it shut, afraid that anything I say would not be good enough.

So, I wait and stare at her, silently asking her to continue but when she doesn't, I plead, "And?"

"I think I might be pregnant."
