SEASON 1: LORD GARMADON; THE BEST GRANDPA EVER!!
ROSALINE GARMADON, also known as Rose is a girl with long white hair, a slightly pale skin and stunning eyes. The daughter of Harumi and Lloyd Garmadon.
The girl's character is a combination of both mother and father. Brave, resourceful, beautiful, sarcastic and sly after her mum and childish, supportive of her loved ones and chatty after her dad.
If Rose could name who of all her siblings is the most close to her and can understand her well, it would be Lily and Atlas. Despite being almost the youngest of the team, Lily is very understanding and can understand the white-haired girl's worries. Atlas, on the other hand, is the one who shares the same problem as Rose: being different.
Atlas hatched from an egg with genetic defects, which is his very shameful point. His skin is covered in white, with patches of purple scales. His hands are a different colour, his right hand is covered in purple and his left hand in black. His eyes are also pink in colour with green pupils.
One of Rose's irises of the eyes is dark purple, the other green. The girl is a little disgusted by her eye colours, but her parents, siblings and most importantly, Grandpa Garmadon, admired it in her.
That's right, Lord Garmadon. It had been eleven years since the war with the Crystal King. Since then, the relationship between him and Lloyd had improved, but not completely. You could still see Lloyd watching with jealousy as his own father got along better with his daughter rather than his first-born son.
Garmadon won the girl's love when she was five years old. The former evil lord told her stories of his time as the great evil emperor and how he ''beat'' evil people to bow down to him. And there was no shortage of taunts towards Lloyd when he told his daughter stories about what a 'wuss' he was.
Rose absolutely loved her grandfather and admires him as her hero who has done something great. And Garmadon too has come to love his granddaughter and treats her like his treasure. One day he even introduced Christofern to her!
---
- Daddy, when is Grandpa Garmadon coming!? - groaned the white-haired girl out loud to her dad, who rolled his eyes as he solved the crossword puzzle.
- I don't know, darling. Your grandfather... is... erm... busy? - He offered with a nervous smile.
Rose furrowed her brows. - With what? Has he gone off to fight the bad guys again? - She wheezed excitedly.
- I honestly doubt it. - He muttered under his breath.
Harumi, who had entered the kitchen to make tea, heard his mumbling and looked at him from under her bull's-eye. As she walked past him she purposely ruffled his golden curls, making the man squeal.
- Seriously!?
Harumi laughed melodiously and looked at Rose. - Don't worry sweetie, your grandfather will definitely come to you today.
- And he'll tell another story about how he beat up bad guys. - She said, crossing her arms and looking at her mother seriously.
- Yes and he will tell his stories. Again.
Lloyd clenched his hands into fists and gritted his teeth. He hated how his dad, coming to the convent as if he were in his own house, and instead of saying hello, he falls straight to Rose. He was very envious of the girl's attention by his father.
Then, as if on cue, the doorbell rang. Rose gasped and Lloyd groaned quietly. The green ninja, though reluctantly went to the door and opened it. There he saw Garmadon in his classic outfit and his helmet.
Lloyd opened his mouth to greet him in a cultured manner, but Garmadon....
- Move on, L-Loyd.
The Evil Lord strode into his brother's monastery as if it were his own ( as usual by the way) and stepped into the kitchen. Lloyd wobbled slightly, from the sudden push, but looked at his father with squinted eyes of anger, before sighing and following him.
- Grandpa!
Rose squealed and jumped off the black chair by the kitchen island and ran into the arms of Garmadon, who smirked and picked her up.
- Hello, little one! How big you are already! Ready for our evening outing to Christofern? - He asked and patted her on the head, setting her down already.
- Of course I am! I hope you have a packet of stories again about how you beat the evil monsters in this dark dimension. And! You have to finish the one, you didn't finish last time.
Garmadon laughed. - Of course I remember. About how I accidentally blew up the car by sneezing, right?
- Yep! I want to know how the police and people around reacted to it. The panic and whether there was a lot of it was a lot, interests me.
- Wait, wait, wait! Are you taking her to that flower of yours again? - asked Lloyd in disbelief, standing in their way to the exit.
- And why not? Christofern like her. - replied a confused Garmadon.
Lloyd growled. - Dad. Christofern is a plant. He has no feelings.
- Not true! Auntie (Y/N) said everyone has feelings, including plants. - replied Rose with absolute certainty.
- Auntie (Y/N)... Of course she said that...
Lloyd rolled his eyes at and crossed his arms. He looked at his father deadpan. - 'Don't tell her any violent stories and don't bring her in late. - he said in a low voice as his father's protective mode switched on.
This is one of the characteristics of dragons. Very protective towards their hatchlings. Garmadon must have sensed this, for he was an Oni. He rolled his dark red eyes like blood and nodded.
- Take it easy, son. Have I ever let you down?
Lloyd only sent him a look of contempt, before he growled and with a snort walked away. Rose furrowed her brows and led him away with her eyes, exchanging worried glances with her mother, who sighed after a moment. She walked over to her daughter and knelt down in front of her.
- Don't worry honey, dad's sad, he'll get over it soon.
- I'M NOT SAD!!
He exclaimed in an indignant tone, and Harumi rolled her eyes, hearing crack in his voice. He's sad. She looked at her daughter and smiled.
- I told so? Have fun and don't come back too late. Garmadon, take care of her.
- I've got this.
The white-haired girl nodded and went to the offended his husband, who had locked himself in their bedroom. Rose and Garmadon looked at each other, before shrugging their shoulders in neutral.
---
The duo made their way to a familiar hill between the mountain valleys and sat by Garmadon's familiar, beloved plant. Christofern, since planted on the sunny hill, had put down solid roots and grown. He was now a lush, dark green plant that let go of many pinkish-red flowers.
- Hello, Christofern, I hope we're not too late? - said Garmadon to the plant, whose stems were swayed by the summer wind.
- Hello, Christofern! - Rose said hello, tapping one of the stems with her finger, as if she was high-fiving her grandfather's 'friend'.
The sun began to set slowly, but still its rays illuminated the plant and the entire valley.
- Well... Where did I end up with the last story? - asked Garmadon, when the girl and he sat down opposite each other with their legs crossed.
- Well, when you sneezed and accidentally fired that ball of power that blew up the car. - replied Rose with enthusiasm. - What happened next, grandpa?
- Well... When I fired that ball of my power, there was silence at first, before people looked at me, I looked at them. There was still silence, no one dared to speak, everyone just stared at me like a herd of deer in headlights.... Before there were squeals and people started running all over the place like headless chickens, then....
---
The sun had long since set and night had followed. The moon was shining strongly and with it millions of stars. Today was cloudless and quite warm. The duo didn't even notice it, they were just telling each other stories. Some of them made absolutely no sense, but they were having fun, and that was the most important thing.
Rose yawned with a weary smile, before a sad expression appeared on her face as she stared off into space. Garmadon noticed the expression of confusion on her face and looked back confused.
- Can you see something there, that I can't see?
Rose blinked and looked at him confused. - Huh, what do you mean?
- Well, you've been looking at something for about five minutes, but I can't see anything. That's why I'm asking, what do you see?
- Oh... it's nothing.
- It's... nothing?
The girl nodded and looked at the grass in front of her. Garmadon furrowed his brows at the frowning expression on his granddaughter's face.
- Something is poisoning your mind.
- A little...
- Would you... Would you like to tell me what that thought might be?
Rose bit her lip and looked discouraged at her grandfather. Her gaze shifted between him and the grass below her. She sighed. - Why do you and dad dislike each other so much?
Garmadon furrowed his brow in misunderstanding. - What do you mean, little one? What do you mean we don't like each other?
- Well... Dad looks at you so strangely, like you're.... I don't know... Something he wouldn't want near him. And you... you don't treat him like he's your... child.
- I don't know what your dad's about, I won't lie. - He shrugged his shoulders indifferently.
Rose furrowed her eyebrows and looked at her grandfather in pain as one thought fell into the loop. - Or maybe... he doesn't feel loved by you?
- Loved?
Rose nodded. - Yes... He... It hurts him that you don't treat him the way you treat me. I mean... that you appreciate him and... you love him. As if you weren't his father... and he's your son.
There was silence. Garmadon stared at the saddened figure of his granddaughter with slightly raised eyebrows in surprise.
- So what do you want me to do about it?
- I don't know.... love him again?
- Love him again?
Rose noded her head. - Mhm. You don't treat him like a stranger guy anymore, but treated him like a son. You've told me stories more than once about how you saved the world together.... and... how Dad was a wuss.
Garmadon laughed lightly. - Because he is a wuus! He can't even discover what's hidden inside him! His potential!
Rose furrowed her brow and shook her head. - No. He's not, grandpa. He is the same as (Y/N). A warrior with a strong heart. Brave and powerful like her. And she is...
- Princess of the Light Valley. - they finished together.
- See? Lily's mum is amazing. Dad is just like her. They're both extraordinary... That's probably why it's me and Lily who have so much in common. Only Dad is missing one thing....
Garmadon listened to his granddaughter attentively. He rested his chin on his hands and looked at her with interest. - And what could that be?
- The love of his dad.
- The love of... his dad?
Rose nodded her head. - Yes. Daddy loves you, it's just... only you don't know it... and you don't see... You don't even try to see it. - she sighed with depression.
They were both silent again. All they could hear was the rustling of Christofern's stalks and the whistling of the wind. Rose turned her head sideways and looked at the valley below, while Garmadon looked at her, analysing the words she had said.
Garmadon sighed. - I'm not going to lie to you, little one. Your father is a wuus. I had to pretend to be dead to get him to work!
Rose looked at him with furrowed brows with an unconvinced expression on her face.
- But... You might be right... Your dad is arrogant and unkind towards me, especially in that war with that crystal fan, but.... Do you think it was just.... pain?
The girl nodded her head. - I'm guessing you did. I wasn't there at the time, but.... I think it was. You had to pretend to be dead so he could unleash his power, right?
- Well... yes?
- See? Maybe it was proof that no matter how you treat him this.... dad still loves you? He thought you had died then, but that didn't happen.... Dad loves you, Grandpa, and he was ready for you.... as they say... erm...
- Avenge?
- Yes, that's the word! Dad was ready to... avenge you? I think that's proof that he loves you, because if he didn't love you....
- He would have forgotten about me and... it would probably have been to his advantage.
- That's right! You see!? Daddy loves you! - she exclaimed enthusiastically.
- This is not proof enough.
And then the enthusiasm she had in her whole body died down. She looked at him in disbelief and flashes of tears appeared in her eyes.
- Seriously? What's that supposed to convince you... That my dad loves you?
Garmadon shrugged his shoulders. - I don't know.... What does the word, 'love' even mean.
Rose fell silent and looked down in thought. He was right. What is the meaning of the word, ''love.'' What does it mean to love someone, to give someone affection?
- Can I tell you a story? Once my mum told it to me and I think... it might be the answer to this question.
- Sure. Tell me.
- A boy gives his girlfriend a doll, she gets upset and throws the doll into the street. The boy asked her: ''Why did you throw it away, darling?' She replied: ''Because I don't like your gift.'' So the boy went to the street, picked up the doll and moments later he was hit by a car, the boy dies. On the day of his farewell, the girl picked up the doll and hugs it tightly to herself, then she noticed the inscription: ''Will you marry me?'' The girl dropped the doll, it fell to the ground and two rings fall out of her pocket....
- And what happened next? - Garmadon asked quietly.
Rose looked at him and nodded with a sad expression. - The moral of the story is this... ''Learn to love what you have before life teaches you to love what you have lost.''
- What it even means?
- My dad experienced this.... He told me that ... you weren't the same as you are now. You used to be different... And you loved him... - the girl pulled her nose and wiped away a falling tear. -... But... But... He lost you....
Garmadon looked in shock at his granddaughter, who slowly began to crack, but tried to hide it from him. - He didn't want to let then... to ... lose you one more time.... after you came back.... He lived all the time with the thought, that you were alive somewhere.... you don't love him, but you are alive....And that was enough for him.... And he... loves you... Even if you can't see it and no matter how he wants to hide it from you.
Garmadon watched helplessly as his granddaughter pulled her nose clumsily and wiped clumsy tears with the sleeve of her purple hooded sweatshirt. He sighed heavily before taking her in his arms and hugging her.
- I didn't know that... I'm sorry, little one.
- No... dad needs a sorry. Not me... for me... You are the best grandpa ever. - she looked at him with a tearful smile.
Garmadon at the moment didn't know what to say. How to respond to what her granddaughter, who was his new treasure, had said. His thoughts were running everywhere. All the while, Lloyd had to endure the painful thought that Garmadon didn't love him, and would never again be the dad he wanted for him.
- I don't know what to say to you, little one. I... for the first time don't know what to do about it.
- Just.... Please talk to my dad. Try to get along with him.... I don't want to see my dad and you treating each other like strangers. I... want us to be together, all of us. Me, Mum, Dad, Grandma and you. We're Garmadons, aren't we? And Garmadons should stick together.
The former evil lord nodded, agreeing with her statement. - You're right... After all, me and your father and (Y/N) kicked that Crystal King's butt. That... was pretty good.
Rose pulled away from him and looked at him full of hope. - And what? Are you going to reconcile with my dad?
- I can try. But no promises.
Rose smiled broadly and hugged him tightly. - Thank you! I love you, grandpa! You are the best!
