CHAPTER 13
- It all happened so suddenly. In one, or maybe three days, all of Ninjago was surrounded on almost all sides. We know who these new enemies of ours are. So the question remains one.... HOW DID THIS HAPPEN!!!? - Jay yelled out loud, looking at the computer map of Ninjago, surrounded by red flashing dots.
- Nerath happened, Jay. - (Y/N) answered him, approaching the table with a book in her hands.
- Who is all this Nerath? - Kai asked and approached the table. - And from where does she have so many allies?
- Not to mention that Polaris is also among her witnesses. - Pythor interjected, resting his hands on the table. - But... He no longer looks like the Polaris we knew.
(Y/N) opened an old, dusty book and flipped through a few pages. Misako and Wanda joined her and looked over the girl's shoulder to peek into the book. - My library has nearly five thousand books. Legends, myths, ancient writings and scrolls. Nothing but to take. - She announced to everyone.
Aaron grunted. - You meant to say, our library, Buttercup.
(Y/N) sent him a side eye and furrowed. - Our? Have you read even one book from here? Did you count, page through, label all the books? Have you created a legend of the library?
Everyone looked at the High Prince, who grunted slightly and tried to answer her somehow, but something didn't work out. (Y/N) snorted. - That's what I thought. So the library is mine. In any case! I think I know the answer to who Nerath is.
- Come on then, surprise us. - Lance said and walked a little closer.
The High Princess clear her throat and picked up the book. - According to this old legend. Nerath is one of the Three Wicked Sisters, powerful witches who were famous for their sinister powers and their nasty deceitful and treacherous nature.
- Is it known where they came from? - Clay asked.
- It was in the early days of the Wizarding Era! - she wheezed.
- Do you think Merlok could know them? - Axl asked.
- I don't know... Maybe in the days of his veeery early youth, or.... no? Coming back! The Three Wicked Sisters were named Rubina, Iris and Nerath. Rubina was the eldest of the three and was mainly involved in divination, creating potions and deadly concoctions, and taking care of the creatures, she created herself. With the help of her excellent skills in creating potions, she breathed life into the swamp plants that the sisters inhabited. She gave them an identity and a purpose to live.
- They lived in the swamp!!? Eww... That's disgusting! At the very thought of that smell and mud...! - Lance exclaimed in disgust, and got a firm poke in the side from Madeline.
- Don't interrupt, Lance. - She rebuked him in a whisper and nodded at (Y/N) so she could continue. The princess grunted and resumed reading.
- Iris was known for her charm and talent for magic. Of all the sisters, she was the one who sinced beauty a lot. As soon as a man noticed her, he immediately fell in love with her. - She muttered in exasperation at the last sentence and glanced at Aaron, who flinched.
- Iris used her charm and lured men deep into the forest, where she lurked for passersby, royal carriages and other valuable cases. She lured them into the forest, where she killed them and later rob them of valuables, their bodies given to Rubina, who feed them to her creatures she had created.
Jestro and Jay flinched and the others fell silent for a moment. Well, the male members of the League of Heroes.
- Iris was agile and assertive, she strode straight to her goal and always got what she wanted from fate. But that wasn't the only merit she had, for she was also a mentor and example for her youngest sister, Nerath. She taught her in matters of Dark Magic in which she was an absolute master. Meticulously, down to the last spell, she taught Nerath how to deal with the world. Nerath may have been the youngest, but she possessed the most powerful power of the three. She wielded a powerful gift, the power to revive the dead and the power to control them.
- So, another necromancer? Another Monstrox only the undead version. - Wanda snorted and her children looked at her with concern.
(Y/N) snorted. - Please, Monstrox can hide under Nerath's power. Nerath was the first necromancer known to humanity, of this realm. The first discovered and... the first destroyed. The three sisters, however, aspired to something greater than power.
- What do you mean? They probably wanted to take control of Knighton. Well, early Knighton. - Macy said. - Every villain in this world, they wanted to do that.
Jestro clear his throat. - Well, that's not exactly true Macy. Monstrox wanted to destroy all of Knighton the second time around in the form of the Stone Colossus of Absolute Destruction. I know, because I was there.
Saber rolled his eyes. - Yeah, we know you were there Jestro. After all, it was them, they had to free you from the lightning of that nasty cloud.
(Y/N) and the knights sent him a menacing look when the jester's hat on Jestro's head, specifically his horns dropped even lower in despondency. Clay patted him on the shoulder and sent a slight smile. - The most important thing is that you are here with us. Good and ready to fight, Jestro.
- Okay! May I continue reading so we can get on with the plan! - (Y/N) exclaimed annoyed by the constant interruption.
Everyone quieted down and told her to continue. - Good.... Three sisters one day, set out on a journey across the kingdom to find a new place to live, when the people of the kingdom began to learn of their existence and tried to hunt them down. They left the monsters that Rubina had bred to guard the Swamp until their return. They set out for the mountains and mountain valleys. During their journey between the mountains, suddenly the sky parted, the clouds began to shine and a star fell from the sky and hit the highest mountain in the valley.
- Like in those myths about falling... Okay, continue. - Cole said quickly and stepped back slightly at (Y/N)'s look.
-.... The three sisters decided to go to this mountain, to see what had happend. When they got there they saw a large cave, a dark murky cave in which they saw a light of fire. Without hesitation, Iris followed into the darkness and with her the sisters. There, the sight they found amazed them. In the middle of the cave grew a large, beautifully blooming cherry tree, covered with roots. The chamber itself had separate sixteen corridors with symbols carved above them, each different.
- Wait... that sounds familiar, doesn't it? - Clay and Aaron looked at each other suspiciously. (Y/N) looked at them as well and Kai nodded.
- Iris, Nerath and Rubina felt a powerful force coming from these corridors and power flowing through the roots of the tree. It was... magical. They knew that there was something hidden here that was great and that could be used.... However, the corridors were closed at the end of everyone's path by a massive obsidian wall. They tried their tricks to unlock it but nothing worked. They couldn't abandon their plan to seize force, but had to when Rubina felt pain. Burning pain, the wilderness,in which her creatures she had created lived, was on fire.
- Rubina, wasting no time, returned home, with her sisters, who tried to dissuade her from fighting foolish people, but she did not listen to their advice and threw herself at the hunters. However, Rubina was old and in the blink of an eye, in front of her sisters, she was killed. Her heart was pierced by the pitchfork of one of the men. The sisters were catched by the humans and the local pastor with holy water, which weakened them. Iris was taken to the court of some nobleman and burned at the stake by the people.
An uncomfortable silence fell, and (Y/N) cleared her throat, flipping through several pages in the book until she stopped on a page with a photo. - I think it's them.
- The old lady is Rubina, isn't she? - Jay asked.
- Yeah... I think the one in the middle is Iris. - said Lloyd, putting his finger on the figure of Iris on the page of the book.
- And the one in white... That's Nerath. - said Nya.
- But look. They all have the same eyes, white as snow. - (Y/N) pointed her finger at the figures drawn on the page of paper. - They were blind?
- No. Maybe... I don't know. - Wanda shook her head.
- So... What happened to Nerath? - Saber returned to the topic after a grunt. (Y/N) shook her head and looked at the further text under the photo.
- Nerath, after the death of her sisters, went mad. She was consumed by a desire for revenge and wanted to avenge her sisters and Rubina's works. She wanted to exact eternal revenge and bring a new order of things in the kingdom. She wanted to condemn all those responsible for her suffering, all mortals, without exception. Even the descendants of all mortals, the ancestors, everyone. She let her darkness take control of her and it gave her power. She opened the gates to the interior of the earth, a great earthquake from which she brought out hordes of undead. Skeletons, ghosts, phantoms that were cursed. She even managed to gain the trust of a powerful beast that inhabits the earth, the Red Death. A mighty dragon, as big as the highest mountain.
The ninjas exchanged worried glances. They didn't want to have the pleasure of meeting this dragon.
- The Undead boldly followed her, she promised the undead power and authority over the Mortal World. Nerath gave them the power to travel on earth during the daytime, as the sun harmed them and made them burn. Some creatures and people from the land joined to her New Order and she turned them into monsters.
- Just like Polaris? - Aspheera interjected and gained Pythor's exasperated gaze.- What? Don't pretend you don't agree with that!
- Mhm... This New Order Plan could have succeeded for her, but two warriors appeared in her path. A man and a woman. They appeared suddenly in the middle of the battlefield and supported the mortal forces. Nerath felt that she would soon be defeated, but she didn't stop her campaign, no one knew why. The Two warriors brought with them the The Immortal Defender, who surpassed the power of death in strength.
When Nerath came face to face with him, she used everything to kill him, but he kept getting up. Until finally Nerath fell from her strength, the Defender overcame her and with his power killed her. He forced her soul with his power to obey and imprisoned her somewhere between Heaven and Earth, some say it could be Limbo.
- After this, the undead army by the two warriors, were cast down to the Underworld for eternal doom. The Dragon was killed and its bones scattered to the farthest corners of the lands. The Immortal Defender was gone without a trace after these events, with some speculating that he, somehow died during the war and would one day return in the body of a completely different creature.
Everyone fell silent and looked at each other in amazement at this story.
- Well... Conclusion? We are dealing with Nerath. An ancient evil from before our era. Okay, what's for dinner? - Cole asked eagerly rubbing his hands together.
Axl returned his enthusiasm and rubbed his belly, which began to growl. - I would eat a good turkey.
- You guys can't be serious! We are dealing with the greatest evil that Knighton has ever seen! Not counting Monstrox, Nerath is a powerful necromancer that we may not be able to defeat! - Clay exclaimed.
- We can do it. After all, we have allies both here and in Ninjago. - Aaron shrugged. - Plus, we can ask the troops from the Light Valley for help! We are the rulers of this kingdom and the troops won't refuse us, right Buttercup?
(Y/N) looked thoughtfully at the table. - Merlopians, Shintarians.... The army from Knighton.... - she muttered to herself. - That's not enough. - she informed the others.
- What do you mean? - Pythor asked.
- It's not enough. The Undead already have power at sea! It will take the Merlopians weeks to defeat this naval fleet. In the air we are threatened by those catapults and cannons with weird projectiles! Scorpio-dragons and perhaps the Red Death! I'm sorry, but our troops are not prepared like them.... It's hard for me to say, but.... We are in a losing position.
- All the more reason not to give up! If anything, it's better to die in war as a hero than to hide in a castle like a coward while the people are getting dying. I... I'm ready to die if I have to. - Clay said to everyone.
- Me too... Such an occupational risk. - Kai said with a slight smirk. - After all, we have been threatened with death more than once, right?
- But... If it's really going to be the end? - Skylor interjected with uncertainty. - If we lose, everyone will die. Our kids, too.
There was silence again and all the parents looked down with sadness.
- There is no fooling ourselves. Death not only threatens us, but other kingdoms also face doom. Those... whose portals are in this cave on the highest mountain in Knighton. - Aaron said and rested his forehead against the side of his wife's head.
- Their future will depend on us. Our realms aren't the only ones that are threatened, the other fourteen dimensions too. - Madeline said.
- So. Why don't we take advantage of it? You know... gather allies from other worlds to defeat Nerath in our worlds? - Saber asked.
Everyone looked at him puzzled, before looking at each other. Determination appeared on the faces of the heroes and they nodded.
- You are right. It's time to start our own campaign! - Cole ordered.
- I fully agree with you. Let's go after them! - Jay called out with determination.
- For our lives! - Saber.
- For our families! - Harumi.
- For our home! - they all called out in unison.
- NINJA.....GO!!!
