Chapter Fourty-Seven: If These Dolls Could Talk
Ethan's Pov
I was awoken up by some rustling, it sounded like someone was trying to find something.
I slowly opened my eyes and found myself in the living room, sleeping on the couch. Spencer was sleeping on the other side of the couch.
I turned around and saw a figure on the ground, looking through Alison's bag.
However, when I saw the blonde hair, I knew right then and there that it was Alison.
"Spence" I whispered, shaking her leg.
Spencer groaned and opened her eyes, looking at me in confusion and slight annoyance.
I nodded towards Alison and when she saw her her eyes widened.
Alison turned around, must've heard us, causing me and Spencer to sit up from the couch.
"Don't. Don't scream, please" Alison begged.
I swallowed thickly as Spencer and I looked at her with wide eyes.
"I needed something from the bag" Alison said.
"What?" Spencer asked, confused.
"You both are really mad at me, aren't you? Not telling you guys about Jason" Alison asked.
"Alison" I said.
"Things would have been so different if I'd spilled. I mean, Jason's your brother, too, and that practically makes us siblings, right?" Alison asked.
Spencer and I still didn't say anything as we continued to stare at her.
Alison sighed and looked at me, a small smile appearing on her face.
"I'm happy to be your sister, Ethan. But you deserve a decent sister" Alison softly said.
I snapped out of it and shook my head at her.
"Ali, I'm not mad at you, and you may not be a saint but that doesn't mean I don't care about you. And I'm glad to have you as my sister because I always thought of you as one, even before knowing about Jason" I softly said.
Alison chuckled softly at me and nodded.
She then looked at the coffee table and saw some painkillers and grabbed them.
"Ooh, painkillers. Mind if I take a couple for the road?" Alison asked.
I shrugged, not really caring if she took them.
Alison grabbed a few and was about to close the bottle when Spencer grabbed it from her and set it back on the table.
"What road? You're still hiding out as Vivian?" Spencer asked.
"Alison, Aria met Duncan, he took her up in his plane, and he told her that he flew you back from Hilton Head that day" I said.
"He talks too much, but I'm glad you guys haven't given up. Maybe now that you've got this" Alison said, gesturing to the bag.
"Why? What's in there? What should we be looking for?" Spencer asked.
"Can't tell you" Alison plainly said.
I gave her an annoyed look as she grabbed the bag and set it on the couch before looking at the both of us.
"But don't get hung up on the details and miss what's parked right in front of you" Alison said.
I sighed and nodded as Spencer opened the bag and aggressively looked inside.
"I miss you, Spence, Ethan" Alison said.
Spencer stopped what she was doing as we both looked at her.
"I miss that fierce look you'd get in your eyes when you had to know the answer, had to win the game" Alison said.
She gently ran a hand through Spencer's hair before pulling back.
"But this isn't yahtzee, sweetie. This is some seriously messed-up stuff. But here's the good news, you're getting warmer" Alison smiled.
Spencer looked at her weirdly while she looked away from her.
Alison looked at me and a smile appeared on her face, it was different from the one she gave Spencer.
"I missed you the most, Ethan. I'm happy that you're safe. And I wish I could tell you who A is, but you have to find out yourself. And I just hope you're not too angry and betrayed when you find out who they are" Alison softly said.
What does she mean by that?
What does she mean by betrayed?
Is A someone that I know? Is A someone that I'm friends with?
Alison gently caressed my cheek before pulling away.
We heard noises come from upstairs as me and Spencer quickly hid the bag under the couch and laid back down on the couch.
In The Morning
I don't know how the hell I went back to sleep, but I did.
"Spencer? Ethan?" I heard Melissa call out to us.
Spencer and I slowly woke up and looked up and saw that we were still in the living room, lying on the couch.
I shivered and cuddled closer to my blanket.
I heard footsteps and turned around to see Melissa walking downstairs, clutching onto her robe, looks like she was shivering too.
"Spence? Ethan?" Melissa asked, looking at us confused.
We looked at her in confusion as she shivered, clutching onto her robe a bit harder.
"Jeez, it's freezing down here. Was that door open all night?" Melissa asked
We turned around to see the door was opened.
What the hell?
I clearly remember closing and locking the door last night, so how is open?
Melissa walked downstairs and quickly closed the door. She sighed before walking into the kitchen, most likely to make breakfast.
Spencer and I looked at each other before looking at the coffee table.
The painkillers were there and the cap was off.
Was that really a dream?
Or was that really Alison?
A Few Minutes Later
When Spencer and I got dressed for school we met up with Emily and we were talking in the car.
We were telling her about what happened in our 'dream' and she didn't really believe that Alison was really there.
We all went to her funeral, we all know that she's dead.
"Spencer, Ethan, you guys are overthinking this" Emily said.
"Then why was the door open?" Spencer asked.
"You're taking two different medications. You probably got up in the middle of the night-" Emily started but I cut her off.
"She was in my living room, Emily. I could still smell her creme rinse after she left" I said.
Emily sighed and shook her head, causing us to look at her.
"You think we're losing it, don't you?" Spencer asked in disbelief.
"No, I don't. I've been there. After I got locked in that barn, I woke up and she was leaning over me. That conversation felt more real than us talking in this car" Emily explained.
"So, wait, what are you saying, that she actually was in our house this morning?" I asked.
"I didn't say that. I just think that Ali is like, holding all of our brains hostage, and we won't be able to sleep until we find out what really happened to her" Emily explained.
Ok, maybe she has a point.
But why did that damn dream feel so real?
Was it real?
"I should go talk to these people. We'll be late for school" Emily said.
She opened the door and got out of the car as she closed the door behind her.
Spencer and I sighed as she leaned her head against her seat while I rested mine in my hand.
At School
Spencer and I walked outside to find the girls.
We finally figured out what the newspapers were for and we had to tell the girls. It was seriously important.
We finally found them at a nearby table and walked towards them.
"Guys, we figured it out. Alison took out a classified ad asking A to meet her in Brookhaven, and A responded" I explained.
"This was going on for like a month. Look. Dear A, what's it gonna take to end this? You need to stop. A.D" Spencer said.
She handed the newspaper to Aria as I took out another one.
"Hey, desperately seeking silence, who says I wanna end this? A" I said.
"Let me see that" Hanna said.
I passed it to her as she looked at it while Emily took the last newspaper that was on the table.
"What's this one?" Emily asked.
"It's the last paper before Labor Day weekend. Alison was set to meet A at 235 Spruce Street" Spencer said.
"Why do I know that street?" Aria asked, confused.
"Because we walked on it. The creepy doll hospital" Hanna said.
The girls and I looked at each other with wide eyes, clearly shocked.
I can't believe we were at the place Alison was supposed to meet A and we didn't even know until now.
"Guys" Emily spoke up, breaking the silence we were in.
We turned around and much to our surprise we saw Toby and Jenna.
What surprised us was the fact that the bandage on Jenna's eye was no longer there and she didn't have her stick, but she was still wearing her shades.
"She took off the bandage" Spencer said.
"She's not using the stick" Aria said.
"Why is she still wearing the shades?" Hanna asked, staring at her.
"Hanna, stop staring" Emily sternly said.
Spencer and I quickly gathered all the newspapers and put them away, making sure that Toby wouldn't see them.
Toby guided Jenna towards us and she gently sat down with at us the table.
"Thanks, Toby. I'll meet you inside" Jenna said.
Toby nodded, flashing Spencer a look, before turning around and walking away.
Spencer sighed and frowned, making me pat her shoulder for comfort.
"Sorry to interrupt" Jenna said.
"Can you see or not?" Hanna asked.
"Hanna" I hissed at her, hitting her arm.
Hanna frowned at me and rubbed her arm, making me sigh and shake my head.
"Wait, the surgery didn't?" Aria asked, a bit hesitantly.
"No, it didn't. I went in knowing the odds, so I can't be shocked" Jenna said, her lips trembling just a bit.
This made me and the girls frown at her, feeling really bad that she didn't get her sight back.
"The funny thing is, I woke up this morning and, uh, I could see clearly. Just not with my eyes" Jenna chuckled lightly.
She sighed before turning around a bit before her eyes landed on me.
Well, technically they landed in between Spencer and I, but it still counts.
"You could've left me in that smoky room, Ethan, but you, you didn't. Instead, you, you saved my life" Jenna softly smiled.
I smiled softly at her and gently nodded my head.
"It made me realize that people can grow. So now it's my turn, and that's why I'm here. I'm here to apologize and to let go of the anger that's been holding me back. So can we just please, move on?" Jenna asked.
Tears started streaming down her cheeks and I swear I could hear her voice crack as she spoke.
The girls all glanced at each other before looking back at her.
"What exactly are you apologizing for, Jenna?" Emily asked.
"For holding a grudge and, uh, for hating you. We've all done things that we're not proud of. I know what you think of me. But you're wrong. I've never been the person you really need to fear" Jenna said.
I opened my mouth to say something when she stood up and took something out.
It was her stick, she unfolded it before using it to help her walk.
When she was gone me and the girls looked at each other, unsure of what to say.
"Please don't tell me you bought that" Emily said, annoyed.
"I kinda did" Aria said.
"Guys, if that surgery didn't work, there's no way she hates us less. I still believe she had something to do with that fire at Jason's" Emily said.
"So you think she set the fire and then just walked into it?" I sarcastically asked.
"Yeah, I've heard of cutting off your nose to spite your face, but that's-" Aria started but Spencer cut her off.
"Cutting off your whole face" Spencer said.
"Well, if Jenna isn't A, then who is she talking about? Garrett?" Emily asked.
"Melissa?" Hanna suggested.
This made me and Spencer look at her, unimpressed and annoyed.
"Hanna, Melissa openly admitted to sending Ali angry text messages. If she was A, why would she do that?" Aria asked.
"I don't know. I don't have the answer" Hanna sighed.
"I think Vivian did. I think she found out. That's why she's not sitting with us" Spencer said.
"So what? What do we do now?" Aria asked.
"We retrace Ali's steps, go back to Brookhaven. We're too close now to back off" I said.
Spencer nodded, agreeing with me. We looked at the girls and saw them sighing before nodding their heads in agreement.
At Brookhaven
We were currently making our way to the creepy doll hospital, trying to see if we could find anything.
Aria was currently telling us that her dad was planning on sending her to boarding school, and it's safe to say that Aria was beyond pissed.
"He couldn't run Ezra out of town, so now he's shipping me off" Aria said through gritted teeth.
"What did Ezra say?" Spencer asked.
"Well, he's not really surprised. My dad's turning this into a war" Aria said.
We stopped walking as Aria turned around to look at us.
"So, what are you gonna do?" I asked.
"Look, can you just hurry up and figure it out? Because Vermont is like Iceland the sequel" Hanna said.
"Wait, there's no 235" Spencer said.
"You guys, look" Hanna said.
We turned around to see an old lady walking stop outside the doll hospital. She's gotta be the owner or something.
We all quickly walked towards her, hoping to get some answers.
"Um, hi. Hi. Um, sorry. Excuse me" I said once we were close.
"We're not open" the old lady said.
"Oh, well, we've tried to call you, your shop a couple of times. We just want to ask a few questions" Spencer said.
"You can ask, but it don't mean I'll have the answers" the old lady said.
This made me chuckle, quite awkwardly, before rubbing my arm.
"Um, we just wanted to know if you keep a record of all of the customers who purchase your dolls?" I asked.
"We don't sell much. It's mostly repairs" the old lady said.
"Oh, um, well, you do sell some dolls, because a friend of ours might have received that one as a gift" Spencer said.
She pointed towards the voodoo doll she saw at the window, causing the old lady to turn around.
She looked at it for a few seconds before turning back around.
"We never sold those. That was left here and never picked up" the old lady said.
"Could you tell us who might have left it?" I asked.
"I couldn't tell you what I had for lunch. Y'all better come inside" the old lady suggested.
We all smiled, quite awkwardly, at her before following her inside the shop.
"Seth, baby, turn on the light, would ya? We got guests" the old lady said.
When we were inside the shop we saw so many dolls, some were creepy and I had to admit some were kind of cute.
But mostly creepy.
"My late sister did the books. I've been trying to sell the shop. No takers. Kids these days only like things they can Google" the old lady chuckled.
She took us downstairs, where we saw more dolls, some were in a few boxes and some were handing from the ceiling.
She walked towards her work station where her papers were.
"Which doll was it again? So many faces in here, they start to blur" the old lady asked.
"Uh, it was a small one, kind of folksy and burlap-y" Spencer said.
"Terrifying" Hanna added.
That made me snort a bit, but I nodded my head in agreement, cause it was true.
"They mean the voodoo doll" a young voice from nearby spoke.
We turned around to see a little boy standing behind the old lady, my guess it's her grandson.
I tensed up when I realized that his name is Seth, the name that the old lady brought up when we were walking inside.
Whenever that name is brought up I always tense up. I never wanted to hear that name ever again. That name should be forbidden to say.
Just brings back bad memories that I wanted nothing more than to forget.
"There was another girl came in asking about the same one" the little boy, Seth, said, referring to the voodoo doll.
The girls and I glanced at each other before looking back at him.
"When was that?" Aria asked.
"Summer before last" Seth said.
"I can't make heads or tails out of this. Let me check that stack over there" the old lady said as she walked away.
"This girl who came in, what was she asking?" Hanna asked.
"She wanted to know who bought it" Seth said.
"Was this her?" Emily asked, showing him a picture of Alison from her phone.
"That's her face, but she had dark hair. Lots of it, like that" Seth said.
He pointed to a doll that had dark hair, that hair looked exactly like Vivian's.
Holy shit, Ali really did come here.
"Um, did you ever figure it out? The person that she was looking for?" I politely asked.
"No, but I told her to stop looking" Seth sternly said.
This made us more interested and a bit scared, but we were determined to get more answers.
"Why?" Aria asked.
"There are people who wanted to hurt her. A man and a woman" Seth said.
"Seth, hold your tongue" the old lady sternly said.
"What is he talking about? When did these people come into the shop?" Spencer asked, looking at the old lady.
"They didn't. That's something he saw in his mind. He sees things, things that haven't happened yet. He's gifted" the old lady said.
I don't buy that bullshit one bit. That little boy knows something.
I never thought I would ever say this but a freaking kid might be able to tell us who A is.
"This couple who was after her, what did they look like?" Spencer asked.
"Dark hair, like yours" Seth said.
"Um, was she wearing sunglasses? Did she have a cane?" I asked.
"Is she blind?" Hanna asked.
"Oh, no, she can see" Seth said.
"Seth, baby, why don't you take the groceries up to the kitchen, here?" the old lady smiled at him.
Seth nodded and grabbed the grocery bags. He was about to head upstairs when he stopped to look at us.
"Sorry about what happened to her. Must have been awful, breathing dirt into your lungs. I don't even like sand in my mouth" Seth said.
That made me swallow thickly, clearly nervous and scared like hell.
"Seth, baby, go. You said enough" the old lady sternly said.
Seth looked at us one last time before turning around and leaving.
Well, talk about creepy.
Late At Night
We went to Hanna's house after our trip to the doll shop and to say that we were all freaked out would be an understatement.
I can't believe that a little boy remembers Alison and warned her that something bad was going to happen to her.
Aria closed the fridge while holding a pizza box in her hand.
"You think this will be enough to split?" Aria asked.
When she noticed that none of us were talking, let alone looking at her, she let out an annoyed sigh.
"Guys, seriously, he's nine years old, he's never seen the sun, and he probably lives in a cupboard with like 600 dolls. Ok. So you don't need to get all freaked out over a newsflash from Casper the friendly host" Aria said, clearly annoyed.
"Aria, he remembers Alison. Ok. He warned her that something bad was gonna happen" Emily said.
"Well, if it wasn't Jenna and Garrett, who was the couple he saw in his head?" Aria asked.
"Melissa and Ian" Hanna said.
"Buttercup, can you let it go?" I asked, annoyed and frustrated.
"Bubs, he said the girl wasn't blind" Hanna argued.
"Yeah, well, that doesn't mean that we have to go back there" I argued back, annoyed.
"Yeah. We do" Spencer suddenly spoke up.
This made us go silent as we stared at her, confused. What is she talking about?
Spencer noticed the look I was giving her and sighed.
"Our parents thought that Melissa could've killed Alison" Spencer said.
This made my eyes widen in shock and my jaw dropped in disbelief.
"Say that again" I said.
"Ethan, bro, you weren't there, but they hired a detective after Ali disappeared" Spencer said.
"What did the detective find?" Emily asked, worried.
"I don't know, but Melissa tried to convince me that our dad wanted to see Ali dead" Spencer said.
"Wait. Melissa accused your father of wanting Alison dead. Why? Why would he want that?" Aria asked, confused.
"Because Alison knew that our dad" Spencer said but she stopped.
She looked at me and I knew exactly what she was asking.
I sighed and gave her a small smile and nodded, telling her that it was ok.
Spencer gave me a small smile back before sighing and looking back at the girls.
"Our dad is Jason's father, too" Spencer said.
Silence.
Absolute silence filled the air.
The girls eyes widened in shock and their jaws dropped. They certainly didn't expect that.
"She would drop hints and make weird jokes about how close our families were. And then Jason figured it out and he told us. Recently" I sighed.
Spencer reached out and grabbed my hand. I squeezed her hand for comfort and she squeezed back.
It was silent for a few seconds before Hanna broke it.
"So your father and" Hanna wanted to say more but stopped herself, already knowing the answer.
"Did Ali rub this in Melissa's face, too?" Aria asked.
"All I know is that Melissa hates Alison's guts. She worked in the next town over and she probably drove past that creepy doll shop every day" Spencer explained.
I sighed and nodded my head, agreeing with what Spencer said.
I don't want to believe it, I really don't.
All I know is that me and Spencer have to talk to Melissa soon and clear things up. Because I really don't want any of this to be true.
Back At Home
When Spencer and I walked inside the house we saw Melissa in the kitchen, sitting on the kitchen stool, going through some mail.
She turned around and smiled when she saw us.
"Oh, good, you're both home. I could use your help" Melissa smiled.
"Sure, but with what?" I asked, confused.
"Thank-you notes from the baby shower. Who sent me something from Florida? Oh, it must be Aunt Joyce. Sweet. I think they're still open, but I'm too tired. I'll go tomorrow" Melissa said.
I smiled at her and nodded while Spencer just nodded.
"Ok" Spencer said.
She grabbed my hand and began dragging me away to head upstairs, only for Melissa to stop us.
"Whose bag is that in your room?" Melissa asked.
This made me and Spencer stop in our tracks as we looked at each other nervously. We turned around to look at Melissa, who was still checking her mail.
"Why were you in my room?" Spencer asked, annoyed.
"I needed Lizzy Farren's address. Why are you being so jumpy?" Melissa asked, annoyed.
She turned around and got up from the stool and took a few steps towards us.
"I just--I didn't sleep very well last night" Spencer nervously said.
Melissa raised an eyebrow at that while I sighed and shook my head.
"Um, the bag is Alison's. Jason gave us some of her things" I said and Spencer nodded.
"Give them to charity. It's morbid holding on to that kind of stuff" Melissa said.
She turned around and sat back on the stool, going back to her mail.
Spencer and I looked at each other before nodding our heads as we walked towards her.
"Melissa" I said.
"Hmm?" Melissa asked.
"Can you explain this?" Spencer asked, taking out her tablet.
Spencer played the video from that night where Ian, Garrett, Jenna and Melissa were in Alison's bedroom the night she disappeared.
Melissa stared at the video in shock as I paused it.
"How do you guys even have this? Did you steal it from Ian?" Melissa asked.
"What were you doing in Alison's bedroom the night of her disappearance?" Spencer asked.
"I thought we were beyond this" Melissa said.
"We're concerned. Mom and dad were, too. That's why they hired somebody-" I started but Spencer hit my arm.
I winced in pain before realizing I almost told Melissa mom and dad hired a private detective.
The last thing I want is for her to go off on mom and dad and create more drama.
"Look, they suspected you" Spencer said.
"Of what?" Melissa asked.
"We just wanna help you, Melissa, because if you did something-" Spencer started but Melissa cut her off.
"I didn't do anything. I was in that house, looking for Ian" Melissa defended.
"Ok, so why didn't you tell anybody that you saw Garrett and Jenna there?" I asked.
"Just because they wanted to see Ali dead doesn't mean they killed her. Half this town wanted that girl to disappear" Melissa argued.
I sighed and ran my hand through my hair, shaking my head at her.
"I don't think we can hold onto this. I think that the police need to see it, and I don't mean Garrett" Spencer sternly said.
This made mine and Melissa's eyes widen as we looked at Spencer in shock.
While I do think that Garrett and Jenna did something, mostly Garrett, I still don't think that Melissa did anything.
I don't want my sister to go jail, especially if she didn't have anything to do with Ali's disappearance.
I snapped out of my thoughts when Spencer grabbed my arm and began dragging me away. Before either of us could get upstairs Melissa stopped us.
"I'd be careful, Spence. You turn that in, there are other videos out there that might surface. I've seen some stuff that makes you and your friends look pretty bad" Melissa said.
This made me and Spencer turn around, looking at her with furrowed eyebrows.
"Like what?" Spencer asked, swallowing thickly.
"I never asked questions about what I saw, but I'm guessing that the police will" Melissa said.
Oh my god...
Does she know about the Jenna thing? Does she know that Ali and the girls blinded her?
Melissa looked away from Spencer to look at me.
"Ethan, little brother, now would be your chance to rethink whether or not hanging out with Spencer and your friends is a good idea. You might not have much to hide, but who's to say that you won't go down with them" Melissa sternly said.
I gulped nervously and felt Spencer shift closer to my side.
Melissa gathered her mail and left, leaving me and Spencer alone.
The Next Day
The next day at school the girls and I grabbed our lunch and began walking to find a table.
Spencer and I told the girls what happened when we confronted Melissa yesterday.
"She's bluffing" Hanna said.
"That's a pretty big hand to play with no cards" Emily said.
"That's what happens when you have nothing. You play big and you psyche everybody out" Hanna scoffed.
We all sat down at a table together as we set our trays down.
"Ok, but what if Melissa is telling the truth? What if there was a camera on us the night of the Jenna thing?" Spencer asked.
If that's true, how are we gonna prove it?
Last I checked the pervert of Rosewood, or as they call him Ian, is dead.
"You know what? Enough is enough. If we have to trick Melissa into sending a text message to prove that she's A, then that's what we'll do" Hanna said, determination in her eyes.
I sighed and shook my head and began eating my lunch.
I'm so freaking hungry that I really couldn't think of anything else. I just needed some food in my system.
At Hanna's House
So turns out the plan to reveal that Melissa is A is to have Caleb and Mona kiss, a place where Melissa can see it, so that she can text Hanna about it.
I honestly can't believe Caleb agreed to it, considering he doesn't like Mona, but hey as long as he agreed then we're good.
But something tells me that that boy is going to be brushing his teeth four times a day after this.
So, Spencer, Hanna and I were in Hanna's bedroom. We were sitting on her bed as we waited for an A text. We also sent Emily there as a spy.
"Are you guys sure that Melissa went-" Hanna started but Spencer cut her off.
"Positive. Emily followed her there" Spencer said.
"I still can't believe you managed to get Caleb to do this, considering he hates Mona" I sighed.
"He loves me more than he hates Mona, that's how. Believe me, I'm not digging this either" Hanna said.
Makes sense. Making her boyfriend and her best friend kiss just to reveal that Melissa is A is gross and annoying, but it's the only way.
We heard Hanna's phone chime and Hanna quickly grabbed it to see who it was from.
"Who's it from?" Spencer asked.
"Buttercup, let us see" I said.
Hanna showed us the message and our eyes widened slightly.
Hey Han, you into sharing everything with your BFF? Even your BF?
- A
"Do we need any more proof? It's been Melissa all along. Spence, Ethan, your sister is A" Hanna said.
No.
No, there's no way.
No, I freaking refuse to believe that Melissa is the one behind all of this. I just refuse.
Spencer and I left the room since Hanna needed to get something and we needed time alone to process everything.
We were in the kitchen when we heard footsteps and saw Hanna walking in.
"I can't find my pen drive, so we just gonna have to give them my laptop" Hanna said.
"Wait, who?" I asked, confused.
"The police. Are either of you driving or me?" Hanna asked.
"Hanna, this is our sister! What are we gonna tell our parents? They tried to protect her!" Spencer yelled.
"Yeah, so did you! For way too long! We should've turned her in the second that we knew she texted Ali" Hanna said.
I opened my mouth to say something when we heard the front door open, causing us to turn around.
"Mom?" Hanna asked.
We sighed in relief when we saw that it was just Emily.
Thank god. Ms. Marin is already suspicious, we don't need her seeing anything else to make her more suspicious.
"Where have you been?" Spencer asked.
"I drove Caleb home. He told Mona he wanted to walk. He doesn't get why we aren't trapping Jenna and Garrett. To him, that's the enemy" Emily said.
"Well, he's wrong. We have proof now" Hanna said.
"No, we might need more" Spencer said.
"More? I just forced my boyfriend to make out with my best friend from junior high. What's next? Hiding in Melissa's closet? Rubbing her belly until the baby confesses?" Hanna asked, clearly frustrated.
"Hanna, Jenna and Garrett-" Emily started but Hanna cut her off.
"No, Emily! Stop confusing us! We know who A is now!" Hanna yelled.
"Buttercup! Melissa is not A! She can't be!" I yelled.
"Bubs, stop trying to defend her!
"Just because you think she's A doesn't mean that I do! I refuse to believe that my sister has been the one torturing us! I refuse to believe that my sister is the one that ran me over with a car that could've killed me!" I angrily yelled.
All of this was making me grow grey hairs, I swear I was gonna snap at any given moment.
"What if we show that kid the video from Alison's room? Let Seth tell us which couple-" Emily started but Hanna cut her off.
"Have you lost your mind? We are now going to ask a nine-year-old sideshow to tell us who's been torturing us?" Hanna asked, angry.
"Hanna, he remembered Alison" I said.
"So what? He reads the paper. It doesn't mean that he can bend a spoon just by staring at it" Hanna scoffed.
"He knew how she died. That was never in the paper" Spencer said.
We heard the door open, causing us to turn around as we saw Mona walking towards us.
"Hey, there. So did it work? Did you guys get a text?" Mona asked.
We all looked at each other, silently saying not to tell her anything just yet, before looking back at her.
"No. No, not yet. What's in the bag?" Hanna asked.
"Shower gel. I need to scrub off ten layers of shame" Mona sighed.
I chuckled lightly and shook my head while Spencer and Emily let out small awkward smiles.
"Well, um, I'm gonna go shower. See you before lights out" Mona smiled.
Hanna smiled at her and nodded before Mona turned around and walked away to head upstairs.
"You can't tell her everything. Hey, this is Spencer and Ethan's family" Emily sternly said.
"Fine. We'll show Seth baby the video. That's the only stop we're making before the police station" Hanna said.
She grabbed her laptop before walking away. The three of us looked at each other before walking away.
At Brookhaven
We made it to Brookhaven to head to the doll shop and show Seth the video to see if he can identify the couple that he saw.
To say that it was really late would be an understatement. But we had to show Seth the video, he's literally the only one that can identify them.
"Do you think it's too late?" Emily asked.
"Yes" I deadpanned.
When we were at the shop Hanna crouched down to look through the window and see if anyone was there, but by the looks of it nobody was there.
"They could be downstairs" Hanna suggested.
I walked towards the door and gently pushed it, resulting in it opening.
The girls and I looked at each other before we quietly walked inside.
"Hello? Hello?" I called out, hoping someone would answer us.
Hanna closed the door behind her since she was the last one to walk inside.
We looked around before deciding to head downstairs since Martha was probably down there.
"Martha? Are you down here?" Spencer asked.
"Why's the light on? Looks like somebody just left" Emily said.
We looked around and saw the dolls, the lights that were near the papers Martha kept was on.
"You guys, let's just go" Hanna suggested, clearly creeped out.
I spotted something under the table and when I got a closer look at it my eyes widened in shock.
"Wait. Look" I said.
I walked towards the table and crouched down. I grabbed the box before standing up and setting the box on the table.
It was a box filled with the same voodoo dolls that Alison had.
"She said she didn't sell these" Emily said.
"Yeah, well she did, and now I want an answer as to why she freaking lied" I said, clearly angry.
All of a sudden the lights went out, this caused Hanna to let out a small squeak and scooted closer to my side.
"Martha? Um, I'm sorry. We're down here" Spencer said.
We looked around, hoping to find Martha or Seth, but there was nobody here but us and the creepy dolls.
"Ok, let's just come back when they're open" Emily suggested.
"That would be 1979. Just find a light switch" Spencer said.
"Let's not and just leave" Hanna said, not wanting to be here any longer.
"Follow me, end up like me"
I gulped at the sudden creepy voice we heard. Emily scooted closer to my side and gripped my arm.
We slowly made our way towards the voice, finding ourselves walking towards a cupboard nearby.
"Follow me, end up like me"
When we were close to the cupboard I gently shoved Spencer behind me as I stood in front, ready to fight and protect the girls at all costs.
I took a deep breath before opening the cupboard doors.
We all let out gasps when we saw that it was a doll, not just any doll, a doll that looked like Alison.
What was creepy was the fact that the doll was wearing the same yellow top as Ali, blood was on her hair and she was covered in dirt.
"Follow me, end up like me"
We all gasped in surprise when something fell from above us, causing us to duck down and shield our faces with our arms.
Toys were suddenly turned on and made lots of noises while a few other toys fell to the ground.
"Run!" I yelled.
I grabbed Spencer and Emily's arms and pushed them in front of me so they could go first.
They began running, screaming and ducking as more toys fell from above them.
I quickly grabbed Hanna's arm and dragged her with me, only for her to yank her arm out of my hand.
"Hanna!" I yelled.
"No, wait, my laptop!" Hanna yelled.
"Follow me, end up like me"
"Buttercup, come on!" I yelled.
When Hanna grabbed her laptop I quickly grabbed her arm and dragged her with me as we both ran as fast as we could.
One things for sure is that we're never coming back here again.
Back At Home
We drove back to mine and Spencer's house and ran up to Spencer's room to get Alison's bag.
We were currently stuffing everything in the bag to give to the police. We had to make sure that everything was there.
"What else should we take?" Emily asked.
"Wait, put that in the duffel bag. We have to give them everything" Hanna said, gesturing to Spencer's tablet.
Spencer sighed before putting her tablet in the bag.
"What are you looking for?" Emily asked when she saw Hanna looking around the room.
"I have no idea" Hanna sighed.
"This feels really weird, giving them all of Ali's stuff" Emily said.
"Well, maybe there's something in here that the police can use. Alison even said there was" I said.
Spencer nodded while Hanna looked at us in shock.
"What? When?" Hanna asked.
"Yesterday" Spencer said.
I nodded and zipped up the bag.
"In a dream" Emily added.
"Ok, why am I just hearing about this now?" Hanna asked, confused.
We heard the door shut, causing our heads to turn around.
We then heard people talking from downstairs, and from what I could tell it sounded like Melissa and Garrett.
What the hell is he doing here?
I walked towards the door and opened it. The girls followed behind me and stayed close to my side. Hanna gripped onto my arm as we slowly exited Spencer's room, trying to be quiet.
We walked as quietly as we could before we heard the door open and this time we heard more people talking.
We picked up our pace before walking downstairs, only to stop when we saw some officers there.
"Officer Reynolds, will you please surrender your weapon?" the guy, Neil, I believe, said.
"What? What the hell is this?" Garrett asked, confused.
He took out his gun and handed it to him.
"Why are you doing this? What has he done?" Melissa asked, confused and worried.
"Garrett Reynolds, you're under arrest" Neil said.
"For what?" Garrett asked, confused.
Another officer went to handcuff Garrett as me and the girls continued to watch.
"The murder, of Alison Dilaurentis" Neil said.
Garrett and Melissa's eyes widened at that while the girls and I looked at each other, shocked and confused.
What evidence do they have that Garrett killed Alison?
Melissa looked up and when she saw us I saw something flash in her eyes. Something that honestly scared me a bit that I couldn't tell what it was.
