(6)No Time Like The Present

DRAYVON POV

It was 4:30 in the morning, and I knew that I was not going back to sleep anytime soon. I decided I would join the new shifters on their second day of training. My mind was racing on about yesterday and how I should handle things. I needed a small distraction and to make sure the new shifters' training was coming along. Thanatos and Erebus were being silent this morning letting me cope with everything. After my shower, I put on my black training sweats and black t-shirt and headed to the training grounds. I figured after training I would go check on Parklynn and see how she was holding up. She is a guest in our pack, and she needed help, mate or not I wouldn't let someone in her condition be thrown back to that awful pack. As soon as I reached the field the newbies were already doing their 5-mile jog, Gamma was waiting for their return. After about 30 minutes they finally arrived panting and guzzling water.

"Okay get into formation." I bellowed out. In an instant, they did to order. They aren't used to seeing me with them some had fear in their eyes. "Now we will be doing hand-to-hand combat. Gamma and I will be assessing and making notes on each of you on strengths and weaknesses". I paired them up and shouted, "BEGIN". As we walked by all fighters taking notes I felt as someone was watching me. I looked up towards the pack hospital where I saw the most beautiful brown eyes staring back at me. Once she caught me catching her staring, she ducked out of view. I felt the smile on my face and forced it to falter moments after. I continued with training and watching the fighters to make sure they became the best they could be.

PARKLYNN POV

I couldn't sleep and my mind was worried about the fear of everything. I hated feeling afraid I needed to overcome this for myself. I wasn't a fan of hospitals, but I was feeling better. I was finally getting my strength back. I found out a long time ago I was a rare being. I have been hiding it so long and after all the beatings my other halves were too weak to come to the front for, they were making sure I was strong but now I was starting to feel them stir. I was glad they were focusing on healing. I went to the window to see outside missing the forest for it's been years since I got to feel the ground beneath my feet and my paws. I saw a group of younger boys and girls begin fighting. They must be training. I then see him walking staring at the fighters seemed to be taking notes. His muscles so defined his hair laying on his shoulders in their gorgeous curls. His skin was so beautiful like he was made by the goddess's hand. In midst of my thought, I noticed he caught me staring at him. His green eyes were so enchanting. My heart began to pick up speed I ducked to get out of sight. How dumb I must have looked. I needed to keep my guard up, but I was awful lonely I truly needed a friend.

Suddenly there was a light knock at the door causing me to jump in surprise. The door began to open, and it was the woman from last night that I was wielding an iv pole at her. Her eyes were kind and her smile so welcoming.

"Hi, Parklynn. I spoke to the doctors they said you could leave today. So, I brought you some clothes for when they discharge you and thought we could get to know each other if that is alright with you"? I nodded in agreement. She seemed friendly enough and my gut was telling me I could trust her. She sat on the chair near the bed after laying the clothes on the bed for me to take. A nurse walked in and removed my IV's and gave me my discharge papers and instructions. "You are mildly malnourished and need to eat more than you used to. Also, daily exercise to get your strength up but don't overdo it start slow and build from there". She smiled I nodded acknowledging I understood, and she left.

"I can help you if you like"? Haisleigh softly spoke I could tell she was trying hard. I softly smiled and nodded in her direction. I grabbed the clothes she brought and searched through them as she spoke. "I know you said no pink. So, I went with your eye color and skin. I figured white, yellow, green, and black. I hope you like them I have some dresses and tanks and pants I didn't know which you liked more". She was nervous and rambling I mentally giggled at her. I grabbed the notebook. 'Thank you I love them all. It is much better than I ever had in the last 10 years. Also, the colors are perfect. I showed her the paper. Her smile was so big but faltered. I knitted my brows in confusion. I grabbed the notebook wrote 'What is wrong' and showed it to her. She then spoke so sadly. "So, you mean you have been treated badly for the last ten years". I nodded. "I can't believe they would be so cruel; I should have punched that evil bitch when I had the chance". I mentally laughed she is quite funny. As she continued rambling her anger, I got dressed choosing the green tank top and black jeans, and black boots. She is good at judging sizes they all fit me well. Once she was done rambling, I went ahead and grabbed her shoulder comforting her to calm her down. I don't know why I did this. I just wanted to help her as she has been helping me. I wrote in the notebook 'Haisleigh can you help me train and exercise. I need to build up my strength and you knowing what the doctors have said it would be easier and I feel like I can trust you.' I showed her what I had written, and her smile was huge. "Of course, yes I would love to". She began hugging me then pulled away. "Well let's start on the first thing and get you some breakfast. We need to make sure your healthy". I nodded and followed her not realizing I was about to meet a lot of new people. Fear was in the pit of my stomach. There is no time like the present to begin overcoming all of my fears today was the start.
